Paul McCartney - Paul McCartney's Studio (Hogg Mill Stuido)

My fiance and I were recently back in England. I dragged her all the way down from Liverpool to Sussex to get a glimpse of this studio. After a long day of driving and a quick pick-me-up in the hotel's pub, we got back in the car and drove a couple of miles to the studio. Listening to the song, 'Souvenir' from the Flaming Pie album.

Further round the lanes is the entrance to Paul McCartney's house. At the start of the long driveway into it is a little cottage. If you stop there a man guards it who lives in the cottage, who was looking at me very suspiciously. From there you can see the long driveway down towards Pauls house. It was very difficult to find back then 16 years ago with a useless Sat Nav, and the villagers are very protective of Paul. I have plenty of photos if I can find them. Near Winchelsea is a beautiful Abbey ruin. Have you seen Dave Gilmour's Astoria floating studio on the River Thames in London? What a place that is, with a fabulous history. It originally belonged to Fred Karno, who used to have a full orchestra playing on the top deck. Dave bought it and restored it beautifully. I have walked and sailed past it many times. I was once in the garden of Pauls house in St. Johns Wood, London, with my Scandinavian g/f. Heaven!

We met Paul there on the day he became 50! Only 4 people were there and had the occasion to say happy birthday to him. We spoke to him, he was very kind and took a few photographs. We will never forget this magic moment!

WOW!!!! I never would have ever been able to virtually "be there" - right on Sir Paul McCartney's Studio Property if it wasn't for you!!! WOW! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Taking that drive there with you, going down that same road Macca has gone down to his studio brought me that much more closers to him. (if ever there could be such a thing) .... He and I are nearly the same age, I've loved him seems like forever. He's my ALL TIME FAVORITE ARTIST after all these years. NO ONE COMPARES TO PAUL MCCARTNEY!!! I had my photo taken at the gate of Hog Hill Studio's many many years ago. Took us ages to find it. Then later we were waiting for a bus to take us back to the station and a blue Mercedes went by I never noticed it till it was disappearing round the bend in the road. I clocked the last bit of the car reg and it looked like MPL. At the time Paul had a blue Merc with an MPL registration plate. it was known as the MPL car because the name of Paul's Company in Soho Square London is MPL COMMUNICATIONS. MPL stands for McCartney Productions Limited.

I saw All Beatles on my BD in 1965🎉.. could NOT hear them sing..🎤 My mom❤️ called radio station to get 2 tickets… 5 dollars each… girls wore miniskirts then… fishnet hose!!!! They wore suits with ties!! Great seats too.!!!! About 100 feet from them!!!!!! My sister took great care of me…❤. I was 11 years old 😊. They were so Cute!!🥰 Wish could do it again….. thanks 🙏

thanks, I enjoyed it , as I did visit the place too, in 1999 ! I was stressed because Paul doesn't like fans hanging out there or at his home.... I've bee, to Peasmarsh too, It took me a while to find it, but we found it :)

For Beatle "freaks" being anywhere near anything related to them you get an unexplainable feeling. I understand when you said "breathing the same air". I use to go with my girlfriend at the time (now my long time wife) to The Dakota in NYC just to try to get a glimpse or man would we ever be so lucky to meet John. We unfortunately never got so lucky but not for the lack of trying. It became a once a month ritual for about 2 years. They say timing is everything. It's too bad timing wasn't right for a speeding cross town bus on December 7th 1980 just as that scumbag Chapman was in its path. Then I'm sure there would have been the 4th Beatle at Hogg Mill Studio.

I would love to meet him one day but I would not dare to invade his privacy ,he has millions and perhaps billions of fans and I am simply one of them ,we can't expect him to greet all of his fans , I actually live in Sussex and on few occasions missed meeting him by chance few times , a close friend of mine met him and his second wife on the sea front and Paul talked to them and cuddled their children . Maybe if lucky one day I meet him and play one of his songs with my guitar and get him to sign my guitar ! but perhaps I have more chance of winning the lotto than that ...

There is indeed! There's a couple of ways to drive into to get there, but chances are you'll drive in the way I did, which takes a good 7 minutes until you reach the studio. Once you reached the small cottage on the left, you'll see a pathway and that is purely public!

@@Ilovealtoids This popped up in my feed 4 years later. Ended up going. No car, so took train, local bus and walked about 15 minutes. Went over the fence through the field behind the windmill - stayed pretty much on the path. No sightings and I didn't go up the driveway. Flaming Pie is in my top 3 Macca albums so being near where it was recorded was cool.

The English countryside is totally crisscrossed with footpaths, bridal paths and other public rights of way. Often they have been in existence for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years. Any large detached property in the countryside is likely to have a public right of way nearby, even it's only used by a farmer to drive his tractor along. I use to live in a house where in theory the lord of the manor could graze their sheep in our garden for six months of the year!

This made me feel rather sorry for Paul McCartney although he does a good job of protecting his privacy. I was brought up in that village from the age of 3 and was 25 years old when my parents sold the house we lived in. I know those lanes like the back of my hand and just how fast you can ride a push bike round the bends. This is verging on stalking, isn’t it? It’s a sleepy part of the countryside, he is hardly ever there and he’s not asking for voyeurs or advertising. Why publicise it?

Because I am a fan, it's a nice part of the country to go for a visit and there's public access and I am free to do so. Quirk of English English - place names spelling and pronouncing are mad. Winchelsea is not "win CHEL si" (as in 'win plus the area of London with a football team). Stress the 'Win', swallow the 'chel' as in 'chul' but barely say the 'u'; finish with 'si' with no stress.
