Paul McCartney just turned 80. I am 63 now and have heard anything and everything from the Beatles on radio, Ed Sullivan, or from where ever in all of the car radios back then. I was not a Beatles fan even as a young 6 year old. On a Sunday night back in 71 when I was 12 (the show I do not remember) this Video of Uncle Albert played. This might of been the first true music video America saw on TV.. I know it was some ago. Linda passed. Condolences to Paul on the passage of Linda. Happy Birthday Paul. God Bless Linda and You.... Craig

OMG I remember seeing this on Paul's television special - on ABC I think it was. I remember how affected I was watching all the Uncle Alberts listening on the telephone and then replacing the receiver down after the nephew's goodbye as they felt sadness, remorse, regret, disappointment or whatever. I don't want to be an Uncle Albert. Some dirtbag nephew.

@@bat-men6065 It's not the endorsed or confirmed video for the hit "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." I think Paul said that "Uncle Albert" and "Admiral Halsey" were two of several unfinished song fragments that he stitched together - in a similar manner to the medleys from the Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road - for his Ram album. The official song "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" became McCartney's first gold record after the break up of the Beatles, and never did have an official video comprised of both former song fragments. As a matter of fact, I distinctly remember watching this Uncle Albert video on the television special to the end on the ABC network, and then a commercial was aired. There wasn't any Admiral Halsey video aired as I recall and at the time I thought it was quite strange. It was most likely Paul who simply had the final creative say about how Uncle Albert was to be presented to the tv viewer. I heard that the two songs were put together for a Paul documentary a couple of years later called "James Paul McCartney."

Same here. This song brings chills up my spine because I'm suddenly 5 years old and living in a world that's far removed from today's. It was a glorious time to be a kid. The contrast to today's world is just too much to handle.

Why is that at 2:53, is one of only times McCartney sings with a definite British accent. So is his American accent singing, a put-on? (or natural?) (or vice versa, on all his other songs?)

@@pauladamson8577 your comment reply to me, had nothing to do with my original comment/question. It’s like one person asking “is the earth round?” & other person saying: “who cares football is entertaining”. I was just curious, which one is his natural, singing voice? As an American,, it always baffled me on when I hear most British people sing, they sound Americans. Paul’s singing on uncle Albert, is the only time I hear with a definite British accent. Other than “The Proclaimers”, Billy Bragg, Squeeze “Cool for Cats”, and “Always look on the Bright side of life” every other British song I hear, I barely detect a accent.

it’s likely that paul, like almost every other english musician of the time was majorly influenced by the vocal styles of little richard, elvis, buddy holly, etc. all americans, im sure you know. so, when imitating these singers when they start out playing covers, its natural their voices start evolving to being “American”, so to speak. here, his English accent is totally a put on, as it’s more like a rich-Londoner then his actual Liverpudlian accent

@@leakingoutofthetimefog5581 Thanks for your reply. I’ve heard that a couple times before, that British people (in the 1960s) were emulating Americans singing from the 1950s, like you said Elvis, Little Richard, etc. But by the 1960s & early 70s, England pretty much dominated the music scene. Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Who, Queen, Elton etc. & again in the 1980s with the 2nd British invasion. (of the MTV glory days) There was a time, in the early 1980s, that 75% of the songs/videos played on MTV were by British artist. - So why isn’t it, (now) that they don’t sing, in their natural British accent voices? & thus force us Americans to have to sound like them? (or everyone just singing their natural voices?) - I’m still confused. Elvis, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, they all became popular only, 5+ years before the Beatles made a big. (it’s not like American rock ‘n’ roll was around for decades & decades before the Beatles came around) - Being American why does the whole world try to emulate American singing accents?, (still Today) & not British singing accents. (i.e. why aren’t , people singing their natural native voices accents?) - I can go on and on, when I hear Adele, Annie Lennox, or the Gallagher brothers speaking, I can barely understand a word they say. Yet, when they sing, I can understand everything. - And how come Squeeze’s “Cool for Cats”, sounds drastically different than all the other hit songs. when I first heard “Tempted” on the radio, I would’ve guessed they were American.

From uDiscovermusic: "What is the meaning behind the song Uncle Albert? “I had an uncle - Albert Kendall - who was a lot of fun, and when I came to write 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey' it was loosely about addressing that older generation, half thinking 'What would they think of the way my generation does things?,” said McCartney. “That's why I wrote the line 'We're so sorry, Uncle Albert.
