Here's some more songs you ought to check out to really hear what an awesome bass player he is: - Wings "Coming up" (Live 1979, way better than the studio version, he rocks that Yamaha Bass so hard.) - Elvis Costello "Veronica" - The Beatles "Hey Bulldog" - The Beatles "Hello goodbye" - The Beatles "Come together" - The Beatles "Free as a bird" (He uses a five string and hits us with that low B during the solo)

This was Paul's response to people saying that all he wrote during this time were love songs and the edge and the risk taking that he showed with the Beatles was long gone. The lyrics clearly show was he was trying to say, " But I look around me and. I see it isn't so, what's wrong with that, here I go again" and the chorus of just " I Love You" over and over again is as simple as it gets and what a love song is all about. A direct jab at his critics and an absolutely brilliant response to those who said he had lost his touch and no one wanted to hear anymore love songs from him.

Nice review. One of my most dearest memories revolves around this song. I was a teenager (many, many years ago) and was working at a fast food joint. After we closed for the night and were cleaning up this song came on the radio (I always took my boombox to work to make the time pass). I started singing the Paul McCartney part (this was before the court order baring me from ever singing again ;) ) and a girl working there who was one of my best friends all of a sudden picked up the Linda McCartney lines. It was one of the most pure and emotional times of my life. Even now 30+ years later I remember the feeling and my eyes mist up. Thank you for reminding me of those good time.

I feel the same about the chorus of this song. I know my dad must have played it a lot when I was 1-3 years old and then I must have forgotten about it for 10 years so that when I heard it again at 12 or 13, I felt this weirdly intense feeling of recovering something lost, and when I realized it was Paul McCartney of the Beatles, that's when I got interested in listening to more of his 70s music.

Because of "Silly Love Songs" and George Harrison's release of "Crackerbox Palace" the same year, I became a fan of the Beatles and their solo efforts. Okay, I lifted that from Wikipedia, sue me. Anyway, I had just turned 19 in April, 1976, when it first hit the charts. I was working as a Vet Assistant after graduating high school the year before. Animal Hospital days which started for me in 1972 when I was fifteen. It was a great date song. Paul wrote a few really cheesy pop songs, this isn't one of them. This was in response to John Lennon commenting that Paul wrote too many silly love songs. But this track has some really great things going for it. Great bass line, it's dance-able, nice use of horns and strings, and an awesome vocal fugue at the end. The lyrics are decent, and the song is great as a whole. This also was a really great album, and the first one I ever bought with my own money in a record store.

Paul was so devoted to Linda that he put her in the band... even though she was not very musically talented... they figured it out :) When she unfortunately passed from cancer, he was "rudderless" and fell prey to "Heather Mills" - who bore a passing resemblance to his former wife.. and was also a "photographer/journalist" -- he apparently was a "marrying man" -

This song and ne called someone's knocking at the door must have been on repeat on every radio station for months because I remember hearing them all the time. Man that brought back memories. It was like reliving 1 year of my childhood in 5 minutes . Awesome

Yes, he was part of the Beatles writing team of Lennon/McCartney. One of the biggest Beatles safe to say, though i always likes George's songs. Be well, -trout

Kilgore Trout My favourite Beatles song is Something which of course is a George Harrison song. It is simply perfect

@@personalcheeses8073 it took me 4 months to learn that song, particularly the solo. He always seemed to make his guitar cry, and his voice had a bit of that quality as well. The Everything Must Pass solo LP shows how his writing had reached Paul and John's level, perhaps surpassing it in some ways.

@@southernwanderer7912 For the most part, I agree with you, however, if you've written literally dozens and dozens of classic pop tunes, as Paul has, I think you've earned the right to be forgiven for staying within the genre that has consistently paid the bills and put food on the table. However, if one has a chance to listen to songs like "Helter Skelter", "Oh Woman, Oh Why", "Let Me Roll It", "Monkberry Moon Delight", & "On the Way" (to name just a few), I think one might agree that Paul also has shown the talent to venture into other genres such as hard rock and rhythm & blues, as none of these songs can be considered "pop", none of these songs were Billboard hits, and only one was a minor hit.

I don't know who Modern Renaissance Man is, but it was fun watching him hear this song for the first time, especially considering that he's unfamiliar with McCartney and even the Beatles. This song is often dismissed as one of Paul's cheesier efforts, but it's actually lyrically clever and beautifully done. Beginning so simply, with nothing but piano, drums, and a very prominent bassline, and building to include that amazing horn section, those string lines, and the vocal countermelodies. It's an underrated masterpiece, and this was a great video. I almost felt like I was hearing it for the first time, too. Thanks so much for this.

Even though I was alive for the Beatles I have no recollection of their popularity. But I do remember Wings quite clearly and probably the reason why I like them better. They had a string of hits that just remind me of my teenage years and the freestyle ways and sounds of the 70's. Great listen. Thanks Teddy!
