These freighters are simply majestic and in my opinion a huge part of Michigan history. Beautiful ships❤️

when I was in college at LSSU in the SOO in the 80s, I used to do my homework on the rail-bridge abutment where the ships would come through to enter the eastbound locks. The ships would pass within 10 feet of me and the sailors would wave and say hello often. When the Russian ships would come through I would bring chocolate bars to throw to the sailors, who were always very friendly and grateful; in fact, twice the Russians threw some Russian confections back to me. Now, with Homeland Security lording over the locks complex and with all of my old haunts behind 10' -high fences, it just ain't the same anymore. Pity.

Interesting tour of a cargo hold of a great lakes freighter. I always wondered what that looks like. Thanks for sharing!

So I have to ask, how did you get a tour on this ship? That would basically be my life‘s dream to tour a boat like this.

You may think so but to each his own. I've been dating women like this - dark hair, busty, full figured and vivacious - since I was a teenager and I've been married to one for 26 years. Let me tell you something: a gal like this is built for comfort and she'll give you a hell of a nice ride in the sack. Plus, this one is even mechanically inclined which is a real find!

She sounds pretty knowledgeable. But this ship is around 30 years old at the time of this video. That’s the original belt??? Anyway that area is well maintained regardless.
@bryanphillips66662 жыл бұрын
There's coal dust EVERYWHERE. Did you notice how filthy her gloves 🧤 were getting?
@thatswhattheyis9 ай бұрын
The belt is going to be like the axe in grandpa’s shed. The handle has broken and replaced 8x’s and the head replaced 3x’s. In grandpa’s mind it is still the same axe in the shed even though it has been fully replaced 3 times.

I wonder if the Edmund Fitzgerald had a similar layout. And if any of the men were in these tunnels and what were the conditions on that fateful night.
@jordanhoffman26055 жыл бұрын
The Fitzgerald was not self-discharging. No conveyer belt.
@sugaredrat37475 жыл бұрын
shasha-muse She had square holds instead of slanted ones. But otherwise, very similar just smaller. I would say there were men in those tunnels because he captain said to not go on deck. The conditions were bad that night, hurricane force winds and 25 foot waves on average, a 40-footer is believed to have sent her down

@Ktallica3 жыл бұрын
It’s a stairwell, probably a high traffic area. Might get a new coat of paint slapped on it during winter layup but these ships are probably on the clock more than half the calendar year between those layups.
