The Britain I long for wouldn't be in this mess to begin with. We used to be a nation able to manufacture 20 million gas masks while fighting a world war, now we can barely keep 7 million cheap masks in working order and decided to give health workers expired ones. We're not that much of a step up from America. While it's great to see people willing to protect our history, their reasons and overall lack of understanding about the situation is extremely disappointing to say the least and it all stems from a lack of education due to an outdated school system meant to raise kids for academia or cotton mills, not much else in between. And with little focus on our history, collectivism, manners, etc. I am deeply interested and proud of what the nation has achieved in its history, but modern day is different story, and due to the actions of ourselves and our governments I have no doubt that 2020 will mark the begging of a sharp decline in the western power's global influence and I'd find it totally irrational to be 'proud' of my nation in its current state.

My parents are both immigrants to this country and my family is very much integrated into British society. I am British before I am anything else, this is my home, a large part of my identity and these are my people. But the reality is most immigrants don’t think like this. As harsh as it sounds, if you don’t like it here, by all means leave. Also, people seem to be newly outraged by slavery, tearing down statues of historic figures who owned slaves as if they’ve only just heard of such a thing. But the reality is slavery doesn’t exist in the West any more. If you’re going to be mad about slavery be mad about it’s prevalence in Asia and Africa TODAY.
