You need two phones Paul. One for work, that you leave in the workshop after work, and one that is only for private stuff. As a matter of fact, you can get a mobile phone that has two phone cards with two numbers, and you can simply turn off the "work" one and leave the private one on, so you don't need to carry two phones. You got to keep your work and private life separate....anyway, as I might have your attention now, I would like to ask you something.....naahhh just joking ;)

No fuel; no compression; no spark. Any one (or combination) of these are excellent reasons for engines not starting. As for 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'...... Members of the legal profession: it's my understanding that they are happy to receive requests for help out of office hours and at the weekend and will charge accordingly (like wounded bulls)

My knowledge was hard won by reading, researching and doing. I will always help people out when i can or want to. But, the chap who rings me frequently for bits of info, finally got it both barrels from me when he rang me while I was on holiday, when i explained i wasn't at home, he asked if anyone else could go into my workshop and look up some details about a magneto he'd bought at a boot sale....

In the pre mobile phone days, I/we would get calls, “somethings wrong with my bike, it doesn’t sound right” After a short conversation a request was made to listen to the mechanical miscreant and as these bright sparks usually did not have an extension in their garage they then with great gusto would drag the poor offending marvel into their abode and proceed to start it and rev the bag out of it to give a clear indication of the problem. Meanwhile it was our solemn goal in life to share this over the PA with our spare parts counter and see who could make the derisive snort first. What would be really sad is the poor unsuspecting owner would arrive at some point soon after with all seriousness to continue the fault finding and purchase the required parts or services Modern technology has removed the opportunities for quality jocularity to break out. Take care and have fun.

I used to have this on a regular basis when I was a computer engineer in the late nineties and early 2Ks. It’s probably the reason I stopped and went back to conventional stuff, then on to the steam railway. Nobody phoned me to “pick my brains” about railway matters. Mind you people often ring me now about model railway things….so I’m not sure if it’s possible to win, short of throwing the phone in the river….

As a bluebell volunteer, it’s that sort of people who’ll ask when was this engine built? You tell them about 1908 I think. Then they correct you and say it was 1910. Like Paul was saying, if they have checked spark points carb fuel timing valves then they can bloody use KZbin and forums to find the answers themselves!

How about the likes of questions such as this, on KZbin? If so, then I apologise that I fall into your category of being an irritating pain in the neck! A couple of years back I wanted an OIF BSA A65. I read what people said about them, bought a w/s manual for the model I wanted, watched a number of videos (mostly on this channel) regarding maintenance etc. The one thing I did want to know, was is there anything other than the usual things such as oil return flow, cycle parts, electronics, blue smoke etc. that I should look for. so, I posed that question on here to which you did reply and said about the end float on the crank! So thank you for that, I now own an oil in frame BSA A65 which I dear say is running quite nicely, with less than .003" end float. It's actually become quite reliable! Covered about 3000 miles now in a year and a half. It's currently Saturday morning, 10:16am here, and 11:16 pm, Friday, in Wales. But figured exactly as you described - I was not going to be ringing at some ungodly hour just to ask "Hi Paul, I'm a 30 year old looking for my first BSA motorbike, can you recommend...and... for me?"

Hi Paul I had an American car garage for 25 years . Like you I have had calls at all times of the day .Even as late as 10.30 at night . Most times I would say call me back in morning and 9 times out of 10 they never did. I think they must be down the pub. Its strange how you end up with a lot of frends when like you work on unusual vehicles and they all want something for nothing . I was open 7 days a week but closed at 4 oclock on Sunday , you be suprised the amount of people would turn up around 4 oclock sunday just as we were closing . The general public must think you have no other life , In my case I didnt ,I loved it but they did take the piss

You can't say fairer than that. You give a lot of advice on your videos. I do occasionally ring places I order parts from or go to for servicing if I am truly stuck and the manuals are not of help. Most are of great help but I ring in work time and don't feel entitled to free aid. I've a feeling I may need to ring Watsonian Sidecars for advice fitting a new eye bolt for a mounting bracket, as one sheared; but I ordered the part from them. It is theoretically simple but I have a feeling it's going to be a pain in the backside! Just waiting for the postie now. Have a great weekend Paul and I look forward to your new videos. I must state you were great when I rang you last year regarding new swing arm bushes for my Royal Enfield. I couldn't find anyone who would fit replacements and you were willing to take on the job. I was put on to a mechanic near me I'd never heard of and he did the work. It turned out we used to be in the same motorcycle club back in the 80s but he left a bit before I joined.

I don’t call as I’m in Nebraska but have messaged as I’m working on the bike because it’s on my mind at the moment and forget the time change and so forth. My apologies Paul. I’ll be more careful.
