Lots of people are saying the analysis videos on the channel are helping. If it's these videos people prefer and want more of let me know and time will be focused on making these instead of others. If young footballers want to improve and take the time to watch and study to improve then more than happy to keep making these to help. Thanks for watching.

On looking at this video I am surprised by the lack of pressing by the Chelsea team. Never watched a lot of games from those days but if you watch the PL matches nowadays, with the scoreline at 0-0 the opposition striker generally presses against the CM players who don't have so much time on the ball. Anyways, I am a huge fan of Scholes and his positional play and this video explains just why he was so great.

adarsh hegde I was thinking the same and for that reason didn't gain much from the analysis. further I don't see what threat Scholes posed from the positions he was in or didn't see much creation when he received and even distributed the ball. I can't say this video was useful beyond 60 seconds

@@omalone1169 Scholes was an expert in creating space for himself and that's what made him dangerous. He could get the ball to any person who was free, so opponents would often resort to marking potential recepients of the ball than marking Scholes. That played into what Scholes wanted, which is freedom around himself. The only issue was who to get the ball to.

If you please could I would love too see you put together a video about Drogba and how to play up front as a lone centre forward as he was fantastic at it and a fine example of exactly how to do it. Thanks

There should be a centre forward movement video on the channel somewhere mate. Steve Jobs in the voice towards the end, actually not sure who the first one is, came across it within a motivational talk and liked it. It could be the actor, the fella Denzil Washington I think his name is.

Excellent video but i think watching Xavi or Busi is better as they're masters of their game and that's without taking anything away from the accomplishments of Scholes. Certainly Xavi held him in high regards and would've only moved for Man Utd had they come calling as he mentioned in an interview. The better movement in my opinion for the first scenario is for scholes to remain in position while the defender push up or attract the players to him thereby opening up spaces for him to pass or let his teammates move into positions that will enable them to start an attacking move. Xavi/busi would've done that. Scholes dropping served no purpose except making that pass because there wasn't any other choice he could do. If it was for the purpose of maintaining posession, they were already in possession and the opponents weren't even pressing. So this is perhaps a bad example to show scholes's talents. The second clip however was a much better illustration of his vision and skill. He waited for the pass, attracted the opponent thereby opening space to pass to his teammates to start an attacking move.

I think you're looking at it in too isolated a way. Obviously the point of the video is to show why and how Scholes positions himself, not necessarily with the desired outcome of showing his creativity. There are many such moments in every game that Xavi and Busquets play, as well. That's just the way football works, things don't open up and develop how you hope every time. Now, by in isolation, I mean that you are looking at Scholes alone and not considering the other players whose movements are every bit as important to a move developing (or not). The Utd defender (Vidic?) could have played the ball more promptly and the Chelsea players wouldn't have gotten so close and forced Scholes to make the pass he did. You're saying he should've made a different movement, which is fair enough, but it would be a mistake to think that there is one move that is correct in any given situation, there are many, and there's no guarantee that, if Scholes had made the movement you suggested, Vidic's dallying on the ball would led him to make a similar pass, albeit in a different direction. Obviously we're looking at this in retrospect, and it's really easy to say in hindsight what should've been done, but in the moment Scholes is just looking to get on the ball, and with barely 30 seconds on the clock, it's no surprise that nothing much developed.

I agree with you. It is correct that the movement of his team mates are equally important for Scholes to make better passing decisions. As said also in my earlier comment, perhaps with a better clip, Scholes's genius would be better portrayed. You mentioned that the clip showed his action with no more than 30 secs on the clock which necessitated the pass to keep possession so yeah with a better clip, people would better understand his actions and football IQ.

You would think this kind of stuff is common sense, but it really isn't. If you ever played a game of pickup you know that people just don't understand these concepts. It can be very frustrating... Thanks for the video, you outlined some of the most important "small things" that really add up to make a major difference in playing and creating space in the center of the park!
