When scholes first retired no one batted an eye lid but when he retired again proper you would’ve thought it was Mother Teresa who died. Not a day goes by where I don't wish I could see him play again. My all time favourite footballer. Humble little genius who is the first to get home to his family, and the person in the middle of the park that efficiently silently just controls the whole game. You see players play the odd long accurate ball per 45 minutes of football. Scholes would do it time after time in the same 30 minutes. It all just looked absolutely effortless. Yet when it ended the common joke with the post match interview was that Scholes was already in the car on his way home. No fuss, no scandal, no messing, just class. This guy will be a legend that outlives many others.

Yes. Normally I prefer Central Midfielders who do the simple and effective things on the pitch, avoiding mistakes often. But Scholes is an exception, mainly because of his intelligence resulting in excellent decision-making abilities. He isn't the most complete player, but certainly the wisest on the pitch. I dare to say that Scholes is the most core member in Fergie era of success. Player like Giggs gain more popularity, but Giggsy was not as influential as Scholes. Giggs probably the best ortodox left winger that world ever seen, but he was past his best after he lose his afro. Meanwhile Scholes always dictate the way United play under Fergie. Most people attributed the demise of Man Utd to the retirement of Sir Alex, but seldom attributed to the simultaneous retirement of Scholes. It was evident that Sir Alex couldn't do without him that he even had called him back from his retirement. I'm pretty sure even today, at his present age, he could still play better than Fellaini. I grew up watching Robson, Moses, Whiteside, Hughes - To be a red devil, the flipside of playing with the ball is how to play without it. Different types of players. Lampard and Gerrard was more like a box-to-box midfielder while Scholes was the one who could make a team click - a master of passing and dictating the tempo. A playmaker out of this world.

@@idresseaymu1008 u forget how barca lost to us in the semis where Scholesy dominated and even the next year barca vs Chelsea was the Semis where Chelsea was by far the better team which barca controversially won in one of the Most rigged games or FLAWED games in ucl history... Yes barca was a great team tht to with Xavi Hernandez who was simply amazing but can't deny that Chelsea outplayed barca and deserved to win, UEFA probably didn't want an all English finals back to back or maybe it was just dumb refereeing anyways barca got schooled by a Chelsea side I could see Scholesy getting the better of barca again

Kroos, Modric, de Bruyne, Busquets nowhere near the class of Scholes. He dictates the game and had a unique passing ability than any other player on the planet. Cool and calm with great composure. Only Iniesta ticks the list.

Agreed! The only player I know whose style of play resembled that of Scholes, is Iniesta. Still, I feel that the little ginger magician was superior. He could strike the ball from distance, like Bobby Charlton. Pass the ball, both long and short, like a sat-nav (only this one was actually reliable!). As for his volleying skills ... my god! Some commentators claim that Gerrard was better. This may be true - but only in the archetypal English footballer sense. For me, Scholesy was much more sophisticated: it's why Europe's finest players talked him up in ways they never did the Scouser. Scholes was a player's player; an artist of the rarest touch and frequency. I will forever miss him, and share Charlton's sentiment that, more than any other player (either under Fergie or since), this maestro most accurately evoked the spirit of our great club, Manchester United. The fearless attacking traditions, mystique and pure joy is all there, encapsulated in microcosm. What a player!

Jorge Garvie that is a very good question. I’m from that area and most of my mates are united fans. N tbh they used to like Bolton till we went in the prem and realised we didn’t like them.
