The brain of prime Manchester United in the 1990s and 2000s, Paul Scholes was without a doubt one of the best players of all time. Total control of the game (passing, dribblling, ball control, finishing, etc.), divine talent, immeasurable intelligence, extraordinary technique, unreal vision, sublime speed of thought. Master, absolute genius!

One of the greatest midfielders ever. Definitely the best English one. I'd rate him up there with the greats like Zidane. These players are just special for what they can do on the pitch. The style and elegance was just sublime. You can't put up statistics to compare them with other players. They just have a natural ability and leave you mesmerized. Paul Scholes was a technical player who could pass the ball with pinpoint accuracy that not many other players could match, and this video only shows half of what he was capable of. The other technical side of his game was his 1 touch play. He had the vision, the flicks and turns, he already had a picture of what was ahead of him before he received the ball. It was like he had eyes in the back of his head. Players could not get anywhere near him and simply could not get the ball of him. If you tried to pressure him, he'd still find a way to keep it. The most gifted and intelligent midfielder who could do almost anything. In his brain he was always a step ahead. That's what set him apart from Gerrard and Lampard. He was the master.

He was so good that Sir Alex called him outta retirement to help the team out 💯💯💯
@ZoeBushell-bi6pg4 ай бұрын
Sir Alex didn’t call him out of retirement. In January 2012 Scholesy wished to play again so he approached Sir Alex, this was even if he was to play at another club. Due to his talent, also injuries Utd had, Sir Alex was on the phone with Utd about a contract within 15 minutes.

One of those few top players that have existed that could actually dictate the pace and flow of the entire game on a regular basis. I think most of us layman don't always appreciate just how difficult a thing that is, and the abilities it requires. Many of the worlds best players throughout history have never been able to do that. You know someome is a great player when many of the worlds best players and coaches all have massive respect for them and I have seen quite a few say how much they thought of the ability and talent of Scholes.
@AdmV0rl0n7 ай бұрын
Towards the end of his time at MU, I think it was a cup game vs Arsenal. He didn't start, but came on as a fairly late substitute. Within minutes he had been involved in multiple tackles, pushes, shoving and a yellow (IIRC). In the same timeframes, he was centre of multiple passing triangles, and from memory he delivered at least 3 world class level passes putting people in on goal. And I mean worldy passes. One in particular was made from a pass that had to be volleyed. I watched MU and supported them through the Scholes era. He made watching them worth its weight in gold. I absolutely loved that he put in the work, put his foot in, was willing to tackle, scrap and fight, and if fouled did not roll about. He'd get up and kick someone. And when the ball was at his feet he'd knit all the game together, short, medium, long. Privileged to have watched and been a fan. An absolute monster player in our golden era.

All i see today is guys running at a fast pace with no REAL tecnique whatsoever. Paul had tecnique, ability, passing vision, outside area shot,, great ball control, great wisdom and knowledge for the game, was a very good defender, was always in the right spot etc GREAT PLAYER!

It is one thing to be able to make those passes, most players could hit those balls, the real skill is seeing them before the opportunity even exists.
@korganrocks39957 ай бұрын
Also, when it comes to the long passes, being able to hit them hard and low is an underrated skill. Rooney loved playing those types of passes as he got older and played a bit further back, but his were more high, lofted crossfield passes that took longer to arrive, and allowed the other team a crucial second or two to adjust.

1:27 is one the best passes ive ever seen. He cuts through the ball so he gets spin on the ball so it stops just in front of Owen. Its like a golf shot. Owens first touch was poor, a better first touch and he'd have been one v one with the keeper
@korganrocks39957 ай бұрын
The assist for Ian Wright is a similar pass; perfectly aimed, and has enough backspin that it bounces up for Wright to smash it on the volley without breaking stride. Like you said, it's like a golf shot rather than a mere football pass!

I think paul is not far better than modric, but for sure paul a bit better than modric, we can say that paul is above modric , debryune, kroos, pirlo, sedoorf and lampard. But not as level as xavi iniesta, under of them. Maybe we can say paul as level as platini maybe. Midfielder for me : Zidane alone, xavi iniesta on the same table, paul platini and gullit ons the same table, modric kroos matthaus sedoorf on the same table, pirlo gerrard lampard on the same table. I dunno about de bryune ..

England wouldve won a major Championship if they built the team around him...all the managers were undecided and tried t play 3 simular players together which screwed tham all up..if they played prime Scholes as how united played him they wouldve wone something with their golden generation. Scholes is at his best when we see him in this video..looking forward and controlling the game..England had him dropping deep because they didnt play him with a holding midfilder.

Imagine putting KDB in the same category as this guy. Crazy. Paul Scholes was on another level. There's a reason the best ever team ever to grace the football pitch (peak Barca) watched DVDs of Paul Scholes. He was it.

So you actually believed that story?😂
@korganrocks39957 ай бұрын
Talent-wise it's fair to put them in the same category, but they play in different positions and different tactics. KDB is a better winger, Scholes is a better central midfielder. They might be equally good in the nr 10 position, but neither have actually played there very much.
@ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords3 ай бұрын
@@yousufhashimi3456 Messi confirmed it in an interview when he was younger, easy to find on Y/T, they called Paul "the teacher" and at the Barca academy they would watch videos of him.
