there were enough musicians screaming and yelling and overdoing it. (Springsteen is great) but Paul Simon bring a subtly and nuance to the world of popular music that is extremely valid, sensitive, emotional, honest without needing to slam it down your throat. His talents are vast and beautiful.

My first band director said the difference between a musician and a showman was the showman made something easy look hard and the musician took something difficult and made it look easy. RIP Mr. Cahill.

He did go to South Africa and performed also in Pretoria - a super concert. I know, I was there. Again, this is an engaging interview

That is so cool you saw him. Paul Simon is, along with Van Morrison, a musician whose work I adore that I have not seen in concert.

@@ClevelandLiveMusic he was great. Saw Joan Baez, too, some years ago in Salzburg. Generally I prefer classical music, but the odd adventure into what for me are fairly uncharted waters now and then is fun

Paul Simon is such a lovely man. I wish he and Art hadn't gone their separate ways. They are great in their own solo careers, but I just love them together. It doesn't seem right them not singing together.

That was a weird question - 'how good a performer do you think you are ?' when I think he meant to convey - 'how comfortable are you with an audience.' That's what Paul responded to. If you ask somebody 'are you good onstage?' it sounds like their talent is being questioned. What are they gonna say.. 'I'm great, everyone says so' or 'I'm not very good - but thanks for asking.'

Paul Simon is a "musician's musician"...and, the exact same can be said for his songwriting. I, personally, would never have even thought that he would have ever entertained the notion nor had ever had the desire to ALSO be, for example, more like a David Lee Roth from the early Van Halen days. My comparison is only given as it actually serves to further illustrate what I was saying about Paul Simon's "musicianship". You see, DLR is a musician too but he's not a "musician's musician" and THIS is why DLR wore the flashy clothes, jumped off amp towers and did mid-air splits on stage on a fairly regular basis and Paul Simon...doesn't. Actually, I can't think of one musician that could be said to be of a similar style musician as Paul Simon who has ever performed on stage in such a way that one would say was all that far out of the wheelhouse of Paul Simon's stage presence. A few might wear a bit more flashy clothes but even that isn't the typical. I'm not saying David Lee Roth ISN'T talented and unique and wasn't the perfect choice to front a band like Van Halen. I think I'd say that Paul Simon's style is a more heady style. Paul Simon is a "musical artist" and a David Lee Roth type would be better defined as a "performer/singer/musician". Hope my descriptions made sense.

Does anyone recall Paul doing an interview for the Graceland album release, where he made a joke about hiding behind the album, making a comment about ninjas? Or am I hallucinating? I swear I saw him do that.

Africa is such a mess, now. South Africa has made it illegal for Caucasian doctors to practice there. I know one of them left and he’s the world’s greatest cardiologist.
