@@kylehampton379 yes I'm sure you're more knowledgeable than the coaches and Skenes himself. he pitched less often in college because they don't play as much as the pros, but I guarantee he had a lot of bullpen pitching sessions between games. he'll be fine the guy is built different than most pitchers he's not an undersized guy trying to throw 95+ so he can keep his MLB job

I would have him throw around the AAA because just look at his IP this season compared to the rest of his college career combined. Then again Pirates Owner be like Angels owner, just got no generational talent but produce same result. They’ll probably go stick their nose in for money over winning in decisions 😅

@@jacobconley2490 I’m not saying it’ll take him 2 years to play or even pitch well in the majors. It will most certainly take 2 years before he’s the ace of the Bucs staff. I pitched through several levels - juco, D1 and 3 seasons in the Pioneer League. It is a huge jump from D1 to MLB. The closest comparison of Skenes is probably Strasburg. I hope Skenes blows us all away and dominates immediately, but he will likely need some time to adjust.

What everyone is forgetting is how long the MLB schedule is. Part of the reason pitchers work through the minors is to condition their arms to stand up to 30+ starts a year. Skenes has thrown a lot this year and doesn’t have much summer ball experience. I think it would be near sighted to bring him up now

I am an LSU fan and I watched Skenes dominate this year every game. Give him a year in the minors. Don’t rush development. He needed a little work on his change up and maybe pickup another pitch. He could go in as a relief pitcher/closer. I could be wrong though

They need to work on any development year 1 and try to fix any little things that might hurt his longevity. Yeah, after a year or so, if things look good, do it but develop first. These are good steps.

Seeing this months later makes it clear how naive this take is. For a hitter this would be possible, but not for a pitcher, and certianly not one of Skenes’ workload. He pitched 122.2 innings in his last year of college (I’m pretty sure this doesn’t even count innings he threw during the playoffs which I believe was very significant). The pirates thought it appropriate that he pitch 6 innings the rest of the season. That’s one normal start for him. Ludicrous to think he should have been pitching a significant number more innings for a team that was going nowhere (not that it should matter, health comes first)

Love his game and he's the most polished arm in the draft but the risk of tossing him off the deep end in the bigs is too great give him a year in the minors make sure he adjusts well to pro ball and bring him to the show out of the pen and move him to a starting role in year two
