In this video, we ROCK to Paul Stanley of KISS! Paul has had a long career of Rock and Roll, and we'll see how his voice has held up to years of touring and recording. Join me now!
Paul Stanley - Kiss - Singers Then And Now
The goal of this series is not to make fun of people, to show a picture of them in their youth and then mock them in their older age.
The goal is to showcase how voices have sustained over time. And who has taken care of their voices and who hasn't, and what was the result. And what could've been done differently for those that did not take care of the voices.
Could they have sustained their voices? And can they be rehabilitated now? Some singers (few) are just gifted with great genes and have been able to sustain their voices on their own. This is a rare exception. The rest of us mere mortals have to work at it, just like we have to work at our voices to get range, pitch, power, control, longevity, stamina, and so forth.
In addition, it's just really cool to check out the incredible careers of these artists and marvel at their singing.
So today, we are looking at none other than Mr. Paul Stanley!

Anyone who thinks KISS songs are easy has never tried to sing them. Paul was a beast of a singer in his prime. And maybe he can't bring that every night anymore, but he's still got pipes. Father Time is undefeated, though, and that's why him and Gene are calling this the end of their road with KISS. I guess then he'll have more time to devote to his Soul Station project.

I saw Kiss with with makeup, and then without and then with again and then at their farewell tour.. which was like 20 years ago. Always a great show. then they toured again and again and again.. and now they have been doing the End of the Road Tour for 2 1/2 years and still booked through October at least...Father Time has got quite a battle getting them to quit.

@@beyondbeleef1013 not entirely. And this response is not directed at you, but to everyone who complains so much about Paul on this last tour. He’s never ever used track until just this last tour. And he does sing, the tracks are only used here and there for support. You just heard recent clips. You heard how he’s not great anymore. Clearly those clips of bad singing aren’t prerecorded tracks. He’s still singing live. So he’s not ONLY using tracks. Just here and there for support. And how come dance/hip hop/ r&b singers don’t get hassled for using tracks? Why do they get a pass, but real artists like Paul Stanley, who has toured more extensively and for longer, get hassled? You think Beyoncé and Brittney and Dr Dre and Katie Perry and MGK and Boys 2 Men and other artists don’t use tracks? Give me a break people. I doubt Mariah can sing better today than Paul at his worst, and she’s 40-50 something. Paul was at his PEAK between roughly 35-55.

He is lipsynching 99 % of this new end of the roads shows he can almost speak properly between the songs / It is total disaster / He has a voice in his headset telling him when to count the songs in/ He has a open microfon so he can trow in hello Montreal and whatever please he has had tomdo half verses to kind of proof he is alive adjust a little on the verses after being takingnout inthe light and some kind of primal shouting it is horrible / There are tons of proof that he has sounding exactly the same in shows after shows/ They are blue printed takes that are laying upon each others so it is tapes I will consider if notm99% it is 90% lipsynching He started to sing 1 verse of Detroit rock city the opening song live and when second verse hits in the voice is 10 times better ??? Just saying/ And I am not hating KISS KISS ALIVE is one of best live albums and that was coming out in 1975??? 🏅🥇 The brand KITH that existing now I cant stand/ Why cant he admit it??? Well peeople say they dont care ??? They dont care if the music is live or not😅😅😅😅😅😅 Think one second if Rob Halford Halford lipsynching a consert??? Bruce Dichinson ??? Not a Judas Priest fan would accepted that/ And just another fact Rob would never done it/ Either would Bruce Dickinson??? Well I forgot they are still Heavy rock Metal bands/ Not brands/😅😅😅😅 Go listen to 100.000 years where Paul,Stanley is singing the middle section live .??? It is total, brutal 😅 Everyone has to right to accept lipsynching / I just, say i dont😉

@@terjeweum3677 his solo record didn't sell even with him being the lead singer of Kids. The New York Dolls had a song looking for a Kiss, that's probably where they stole the name. The black sleeve and high heel shoes, he stole from Sylvain Sylvain from the New York Dolls. Stay away from Paul Stanley he likes to copy you.

Paul is such a great vocalist! He started singing much higher in the 80s and maybe that hurt him. But Paul himself said, “If you want to hear me the way I sounded in my 20’s then put on the album.” He still gives 100% and you can’t ask for more. He is awesome!!!

That's what I like about this series, Ken, the evolution of voices over time. Pauls voice held up remarkable well and that's how I feel about Rob Halford. The guy is well into his 70's, been torturing his vocale chords for 50 plus years and he hits notes that a guy his age shouldn't hit. Sure, not always and with varying results, but he's out there doing it, same as Paul, same as Hagar and a few other guys, kickin' ass for our enjoyment and your series highlights things that most of us never would have thought of. Thanks man and take care.

Paul gave almost 50 years of rock n roll excellence, at 70 years old he's done it all. The voice has diminished but it is what it is. Not many can do what he did at his peak and very few singers are lucky to still have a good voice into their 70s. Some awesome vocals on his 1978' solo album. His range has dramatically changed even more so in the last few years. Though his Soul Station album still showed he can do it within a set range. He still has to push it though live with KISS so thats probably not helping matters. Even so, what a voice in his prime!

Hey , he's Paul Stanley I love him. They still kick and as you said yourself Ken , they are more show and if anyone wants to see them and hasn't well, I say do it now these guys along with all the old cats left in this business don't really have much time left in this arena as well as this life on earth . Take your kids let them enjoy seeing a true rock show. Express on time again, they come to your city go catch them. I know that most are having it tough money wise out here between gas prices alone. Sometimes it's great to just depress and go out to a show or movie , bowling. Just when it comes to these bands there isn't really much time left. The circle of life. KISS is so much fun especially for the kids as well. Ken your so great . You & the staff . I think you should run a little time on air for your fans. Meaning , if they would like to show off what they've learned from you have them mail you via email a 3 minute track singing. Title the show We had Then and Now and now we are going to have - The proof is in the vocals and say hey I'd like to hear what some of you sound like and so I am given you all an opportunity for me to critique your voice. I think it would be a great little bit of fun for all who get involved. With technology today they email it to you and you download it . I'd be so excited to hear some of these fans who are here such as myself digging your shows. Sorry for the book. I hope you read these cause I sure would hate to be waisting my time praising or given ideas . I heard comments aren't read and if so that's really sad cause your missing out on some good quality fans here Ken. I think someone reads them if not you. Ok I'm off your line! Peace out .✌😊🤘💜👍

The thing about this band (and I saw them with all original members in 2004) so they have been out for quite a while and I’ll tell you something I’ve seen them a few times but this particular time they incorporated it was a computer interactive movie where they go from earth through a portal and go into another world and they incorporated that in their show and I’ll tell you something they didn’t miss a beat and they played like it was like it was the first time they had ever performed together ,the show was incredible the singing was awesome the music was intense it was I mean that is the true mark of a showmen you know is to make it just as good every single time so I have the upmost respect for them plus I grew up with them and given the time to 2004 that they had been out since the 70s and have that kind of intensity like I said is the true mark of a professional they give it their all no matter where they are in their lives👍🏻

Some of the "now" videos were from about 15yrs ago or more. But I agree with everything you said in this. Paul Stanley is definitely singing along with vocal tracks. But he was a beast in his prime. You should do a review video for the song "I Still Love You" unplugged version. His vocals were amazing during that time and his vocals were great during the reunion tour. He still looks like the starchild and he took really good care of himself... Unfortunately his vocals got blown out right before the 2010s 😥. But he will always be my favorite front man of all time. Lots of fans will argue and say that he isn't lip singing because he is using vocal tracks from around 8 years ago. Plus he's still sings some parts live. He can still hit some of the high notes and he can still hit some low notes but it's like his middle range is gone.

I love Paul, I saw KISS when i was 12 yrs old 78,79 from Alive II and Dynasty and tons of times from 96 - 2000. My first band I was really nuts about and collected everything. He always was one of my personal favorite's all time. His voice is really unique and his tone quality. It's just sad to see the inevitable happen. It does seem to me he always over sang as he got older into his 40's by taking the lyrics up higher and really not using his head voice safely. Always a Kiss fan..

No one can say Paul Stanley isn’t a hard working, great rock star. He has kept himself healthy and off drugs and alcohol while being one of the greatest rock singers of all time….. Any list of the greatest rock and roll singers is incomplete without him, I think he’s right up there with Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant etc. Gene Simmons was damn lucky to have Paul to hide behind onstage all these! His Live to Win album and One Live KISS DVD have been some of my absolute favourites for years and years. How’s that for fanboying out 🤪? Think I’ll go watch One Live KISS now.

Thanks so much Ken.. finally someone with a lot of knowledge telling the thruth about Paul’s vocals. I really feel he gave so much to keep Kiss on top of the rockgenre, especially during the eighties, when they had to struggle some years to survive.. You can hear it in the live recordings where he was often singing, screaming, belting out of his toes ; ) I think that caused some damage there. I don’t care at all about the negative comments on his singing (mostly not from people who have accomplished worldfame themselves…), Paul was always so unique, completely his own style, sound, you just instantly know it’s him when you hear Kiss.. Legends never die…

Paul was and still is my childhood hero. I have been able to see him live in concert and is as every bit as good as you see on TV.

I am fortunate enough to have seen KISS live first in the early 80s when Paul was killing it....(I still swear that Creatures....I Still Love You was possibly his greatest vocal performance especially the "Unplugged version....is their greatest studio album and second only to KISS Alive) and later on when he wasn't able to bring it like that anymore. I won't be seeing the final tour as I just don't want to mess with my memories. Great video and analysis as usual. Rock on brother!!

I just listened to the unplugged MTV version of I still love you and was seriously blown away by Paul's vocals. Thanks for mentioning it in your comment. Bruce Kulick was also exceptional!

I saw them live in Florida during their "Animalize" tour, in '84 and W.A.S.P. opened for them. "I Still Love You" is one of my favorite songs and YES that "Unplugged" version blew me away when I heard it.

Paul is unmatched as a rock singer . If you watch the Animalize tour 😲😎the man absolutely rips it . Still totally blows me away to this day the voice , talent & energy that Paul had ... however the man is 71 years old & obviously not in his prime anymore . Daaahh !!! To all those haters/bashers , lets see what your still doing when your 71 . In case any of those negative people haven't noticed , the clock doesn't stop for ANYONE ... give the man a break ! He's earned it !!! Paul was a AMAZING singer & entertainer ... and he still is . Nothing but respect here but , it is a little sad & painful to watch him struggle during live shows on the End of the road tour . Love ya Paul ! 😎👍

I saw Kiss for the first time in 1997 - Reunion Tour and Paul was awesome (he was 45). I saw them again in 2008 on the Alive 35-Tour and Paul was still awesome (he was 56 years old). Next Concert was 2015 or 2016 and it was horrable. Last Concert was 2020 and much better, but both (Gene also, especially for the long scream at the end of "Deuce") used backtracks.

Kiss started it all for me! If I was a “good boy” I was rewarded with the newest kiss 8 track lol. I remember being crushed when my parents wouldn’t take me to Madison Square Garden to see them in the summer of 78 ( or 79?), I think that was their 1st arena show. Donna Summer was live at Central Park the same night😁 I can’t forget it lol

Gosh, I Love this series!! KISS is my favorite band. I think Paul gets way too much flack, sure his voice isn't what it used to be, but Come on he's still getting out there and giving us his all in his 70s!!! I think he should get some major kudos for that. Could you do one on Gene Simmons if you haven't all ready? It'd be really cool to see your opinion on how his voice held up over the years!

I have seen Kiss from the 70's right through to most recently, in 2019. They sounded great. They are known for a very physical and theatric show. I was not disappointed in 2019... from the Palladium, to MSG and lastly, Nassau Coliseum...Great Show! I recommend Paul's Solo Album, to really appreciate his singing range. He's the real deal.

As a KISS fan since the 1970s, I have to say that Paul is still singing well. I've heard a lot about some past shows in 2018 and 2019 where he did not sound his best. However, his singing is much improved in 2022. Kudos to the Starchild!
