There's a song on that album called "I Still Love You" that's just an amazing power ballad. Listen to the MTV Unplugged version though, it's amazing and shows Paul's vocal range

This was a return to heavy metal form for KISS after 3 more experimental albums. Unfortunately fans had left and didn’t pay much attention to this incredible disc. If you are interested in more vocals from them here are some suggestions; From Paul, Danger off this same album, I’ve Had Enough off Animalize (reportedly the main vocal was done in one take,) King of the Mountain from Asylum and It Never Goes Away off Carnival of Souls. Gene…well Gene tends to growl but the man can sing when he wants to. Ladies Room from Rock N Roll Over, Naked City off Unmasked and from Revenge both Unholy and Thou Shalt Not deliver the goods.

The energy of that note is so much more important than 100% pitch. The "artistic license" here is that the vocals almost dissolves into screams in the end - in keeping with the theme of the song. If you dig this album (a lot of us do) - try Gene on vocals - War Machine.

The main thing making these kinda vocal mixes really wet is chorus (or stereo) effect. Either vocal dubs panned in stereo, or phase shifted copies of a vocal take panned in stereo. Kiss has been using this all career. I love the effect. And a cool fact about the huge drum sound on this album is that they had it set up on a huge plywood box. And the studio space were 2 stories with a high, reverby stairwell between. I think Eric Carr was on the floor above, with the drums set up on the plywood box and with walkie talkies between him and the studio beneath. And they opened up the doors to the stairwell for a natural huge room sound mix

The lead guitar on this song is from Mr. Mister guitarist Steve Farris. Ace Frehley had already left the band at the end of 1981 but agreed to do publicity (photographs, promo videos, album covers) for most of 1982.

I love this theme since I was 13 haha... A few years ago I read what you said and I couldn't believe it. On many heavy metal records there are pop musicians in their lyrics, music or as performers on the recordings. Greetings

Even though I grew up on KISS, I was mostly done with their discography by the time this one rolled out. You’re comments are on point here and I’m so thankful that you took the high road, and didn’t try to hype your way through this reaction. KISS was always about a vibe and they knew their musical chops weren’t top tier. That’s partly why I appreciated them.

Guitar solo was actually Steve Farris from Mr Mister. This is really more of a Gene Simmons album than Paul Stanley even though I do love the song Danger (which is Paul's best on the album imo) Give a listen to Gene's song War machine..big bass huge drums.

Ken, minute 11'50: I don't agree with you that at that point, in the song there is any error and Paul doesn't hit the note. If Paul Stanley was something in Kiss recordings was a sick perfectionist, and more so in the studio, where many takes were recorded. Therefore, it's okay to believe that by highlighting mistakes you become, in the eyes of others, a great vocal coach, but not when the "mistake" does not exist. You had to resort to falsetto to get to the note, and just barely. By the way, Paul Stanley is not a baritone but a dramatic tenor. Gene Simmons, his bandmate, is a baritone.

He’s a decent rock singer, sometimes better. I wouldn’t ever say KISS was metal. Rock, or Hard Rock, at the most. This is one of their heaviest albums,, though, and a sort of comeback at the time. It’s one of my favorite KISS albums. Yeah, he doesn’t always hit every not perfectly, but that’s Rock.

Kiss has through their career moved between hard rock and heavy metal and at some times with more or less of pop into the mix. Creature of the night is definitly one of their harder and heavier albums and one of my favourites.

I was more like KISS Coast Guard than KISS Army, but a friend and I used to get together and listen to the first Alive album. Black Diamond still rocks pretty hard. There's an intro vocal by Paul Stanley, then drummer Peter Criss takes over the lead vocal! Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX7SqaugeLehmNk

Just be fore the guitar solo, he points out that a guitar solo should go here. Yet the great Eddie Van Halen heard this song in the studio, prior to the album’s release, loved the song and guitar solo and even suggest get the soloist (just filling in between when Ace left and when Kiss get an official new guitarist) join the band.

Hi, Ken! Creatures is not really representative of what Stanley was capable of the (late) 80s and mid 90s. After all, he played the phantom in Phantom of the Opera a few years later. Try this rather obscure live performance instead; kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2mqn6ycrdeBe8k
