@channelin Last year I defended someone in London who was being kicked on the ground by several others. I did it because my life has a meaning. The 200 people who stood and watched might as well have been dead. I refuse to be a useless tourist. I'd rather write history than watch it go by. To die defending a stranger is a beautiful death, the best you could ask for. Peace, my friend, and don't worry so much!

@channelin Fear is the perception of danger and it is that fear that prepares you for conflict, it dilates your pupils for better vision, it causes your heart to pump faster for better oxygenation, and produces adrenaline to increase your speed and strength. You don't want to banish it but embrace it and learn to work with it. Treat the fear as a friend but do not allow it's power to overwhelm you. Confidence is the knowing that you will overcome any challenge regardless, practice can achieve it

@channelin accept that will be afraid, and accept also that you will take a hit or two. Try to focus on your opponent's movements and let the techniques work around his weaknesses. Do not be concerned about angering him by attacking his weak points, which will be many and easy to see when you look. "Be water". Every successful strike will turn his anger into fear. My Sehing used to say "You'll still be afraid, but you'll know what to do." You can get beyond fear by studying Zen.

@channelin You really need to read those books I recommended and learn also patience. 21 is very young in the scheme of a man's life. I was still driven by fear well into my 30s. Partly I was scared of losing my looks in a fight. Now I don't give a shit because I've had my youth. You'll have to wait for that. The best advice I can give you is to make many friends and learn the art of swallowing your pride and making peace with all men. Showing respect to your enemy can be a powerful move.

No he said to not do them that fast ,so they can see what he is doing. You have to crawl before you can walk. You must see it in slow motion so you can prepare and get to the next level of a real full speed fight.

@channelin People who are confident do not need to prove themselves by fighting, and experienced fighters know not to fight unless they have to. You can play the "respect" card at any point in a fight. Recognise that your enemy is just you from the other side. This will give you deep understanding and communication. Few men achieve this. Watch films by Kurosawa, he shows a lot of this.

@channelin Zen in the Martial Arts by Joe Hyams is one of the best books you will ever own. I also recommend you own Hagakure: the way of the Samurai. Watch a movie called Ghost Dog first as this will give insight into that book. The Diamond Sutra is the "fighters'" Sutra from the Buddhist tradition, but you could start the Buddhism with any book by D. T. Suzuki.

@aaronfromhastings ive had this problem of fear for maybe 6/7 yrs, im really stong according to many but feel like a coward. i had my first real street fight 3 weeks ago i beat the guy up pretty badly on his face, but i hesitated and was too scared to fight back at the beginning, which lead to me getting attacked up to 6 times and still not retaliating eventually i did and threw a combination of hooks to his face but then i stopped and didnt carry on i guess i won.

@channelin No, I just stood over the guy in a ready stance rather like Bruce Lee when surrounded by enemies. lol. I must have looked like a madman. I'm no bigger than Bruce was either, and I was dressed in cycling gear! I just made total mental commitment to fight them if I had to, and that seemed to be enough to make them hightail it. In that moment all I cared about was defending that man's life. I had no anger.
@aaronwildeofficial

@channelin I battled with fear for many years. One day, I just decided I was going to give up being afraid. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it worked. It took a few years, but it did work, once I had committed to the idea. Have you done everything you wanted to in life? The only reason to fear death is because you have not finished what you wanted to do. Any fight can become a fight to the death. You must be prepared to die. This comes with age, be patient.

Bruce Lee had a terrible temper??? That's never been told, it's the first time I ever heard that. You just filled in all the gaps that exist! There's been suspicion behind his passing. Many learn to fight and all this, but there is a reality quotient in America. You can box, wrestle, be the biggest baddest cat in the nation. But, that is your choice of aggression that fits your mentality. Others do not share your physical attributes, your martial skills, your mind set, but there's many many people, many networked across the nation that have other means of aggression that works for them! Take note what I am telling you! Some even if you do not believe does not matter, their abilities are more secret than martial art skills before they became obsolete for a feudal society moving into a modern world. Enuff people using visual imagery of desired events can become manifest, where there is nothing law enforcement can do with things unknown or acknowledged by the masses or the courts! But just like envision a small, petite, nonphysically aggressive girl, where someone jumps her, beats the hell out of her. Never realizing what door they opened. Which arson is a crime, yes, but she was no where near it. Or, things ending up in your food, where you'd never know if it came from a restaurant you stopped at, or slipped into food at home, etc. Etc. Many guys may feel macho and big stuff flaunting their ability. But so many are block headed, never realizing there are large numbers of people who may not have any such skill or ability, but, there's other ways that are favorable to them, which macho types are totally blind too. Which, many seen Bruce Lee as a martial arts guru idolizing him. But his actual demeanor was just revealed. Which for me, answered a lot of questions. Even nature herself do not like those that flaunt superiority over others,as well as being Mr. Bada-%%&! Initiating conflict when you were the one that instigated it. Just a note, most may not see these correlations, but it'd be good to open your eyes! It may take years for Karma to get to ya, but when it does, think of those you've humiliated, shamed or hurt, as well as your attitude. 😉, If she doesn't get ya in time, you're just lucky.

I would rather people know Jesus as their Savior than 1 million hours of martial arts knowledge. Samson killed thousands with the jawbone of an ass, keep it simple and consistent - simplistent. I'm sure Samson didn't know any of this, but he knew God, and in his last feat, called on God for strength to bring the palace down on the Phillistines. The apostle Paul said physical exercise profited some, but it's not all about the physical. See Ephesians 6:12. No doubt, Vunak has some points, but right now, SUICIDE is killing 22 veterans and active duty service members a day. Fear, guilt, shame, regret, hopelessness, etc., - Jesus Christ is the eternal answer. We're all very easy to kill. Only Christ can raise us from the dead.
