Weller in a surprisingly and unusual good mood for an interview. He was relaunching his career at that point, getting involved in different sorts of things.

I think he has circled back to that again. at least lately.

Incredible interview! I was a part of that history at the Camden Town Dingwalls gig that Jonathan Ross references. I was front row a couple feet from Paul!!! It was hands down the best show of my life. Work to Do (isleys cover) and Strange Museum stood out to me as charting a new direction. His self released EP with Here’s a New Thing and first solo LP are still all time faves. He really blossomed in that period. I saw all his London PW Movement gigs and all were incredible. The filmed Brixton Academy show had full band: horn section, marimbas, keys, etc. This was a sweet spot in his career that was hugely influential on me as a fan and fellow songwriter. I’d give anything to go back to that Acid Jazz era and remain there:

I think he doesn't care if people like him or not. He is who he is and some people will love him some people will hate him. And then there is the inbetween. He seems quite shy and a little awkward. But who wouldn't be when you are on tv in front of millions of people. Paul weller and mr. S Marriott are mod legend's

PW has a very dry wit & sense of humour which some people don't get. Me, I find him very funny, observant & tongue in cheek. Honest as well. Much as I would love to have seen The Jam live, as I was too young at the time, I admire him for not jumping on the nostalgia bandwagon. Their legacy is safe in a time capsule with the songs of our youth. Obviously, being the main songwriter in The Jam & Style Council as well as his solo career has given him the choice of not having to go on any 80's revival tours. I'm smiling as I write as I try to get an image of him doing one of those ! 😄 That is not to say that they are bad or anything just that, it would not be for him ! A bit like his Band Aid video appearance 😂. Fingers crossed to be able to see him live in Dublin this November and here's to Mr Marriott, Mr Weller & all our mod heroes 🥳

Anyone I have spoken to in the music industry usually only has one word to describe him. Rhymes with ‘punt’.
