Hi Andy, I’ve worked with Paul for the last few years, producing and recording his songs. Just wanted to offer an explanation to what you might be hearing. We generally record the vocals using a Peluso 2247 studio tube mic (RRP £1200) so we’re certainly using quality equipment. Over the years of working on Paul’s mixes, I’ve got a good idea of what he likes balance-wise and he usually likes to settle his vocals in the mix with the rest of the instrumentation rather than sit them right on top like most modern productions do. It’s just an artist’s preference really. It’s always good to hear feedback, positive or negative, but I just wanted to offer an explanation to what you’re hearing from a production standpoint. Hope that helps mate! All the best
