Additionally, I know from experience that toast can be eaten remarkably quickly. There would be no problem for the guy to eat one piece of toast on the way to the bathroom, and then another on the way back to the kitchen. This could all be done within 2 minutes, ESPECIALLY if he did the unsanitary act of eating the toast IN the restroom.

That's what's called "padding" or "filler". Turning 10 minutes of meaningful content, into a three-part box set. Other techniques often used are 1. Long meaningless aerial shots over a landscape, shots of a dripping tap, paint drying, that kind of stuff. 2. A lead-in sequence containing all the best bits, that lasts about 4 minutes.

Good editing makes the story work. See, for example, how some smart editing completely changed the ending of the very first Star Wars movie, helping it become the smash-hit phenomenon we know and love today. Compare that to the prequels and sequels, which were badly written and badly edited. I've seen how better editing can dramatically improve Attack Of The Clones (terrible title BTW).
@rennycepeda6576 Жыл бұрын
good editing=entertainment
@JesseP.Watson Жыл бұрын
Editing is the fundamental art-form of film, everything else is an extra - even the photography is subservient to the editing. An editor can make a film with a few newspaper cuttings... or a shaky phone video, anything. Watch a film by someone who thinks acting is the fundamental and hasn't learned anything about editing and it'll be terrible... The inverse can work fine because a good editor can make bad actors look passable. The editing however is too complex for most viewers to understand so it goes generally unnoticed. ...As in music the songwriter goes unnoticed... everyone applauds the singer.
@mrkaufmanMTB Жыл бұрын
@@JesseP.Watson true...good editing is supposed to go unnoticed though however, it does get applauded, best film editing is an oscar category. I'm actually in the process of editing a feature film documentary right now and I'm so overwhelmed it's not even funny lol So many options, so easy to overthink everything. You know what they say give the same film to 1000 editors and you will get 1000 different films back 🥵
@n.e.at03 жыл бұрын
this makes me so mad because with the editing and the dramatic music this genuinely got me about as engaged and on the edge of my seat as an actual netflix documentary would have.
