I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a kzbin.infoUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

Very pretty sinkers. For those that don't have all this equipment: I find that it is a heck of a lot faster and easier to just wrap a stone in sewing thread. You can wrap in a metal loop if you want, but I just use a loop in the thread. I fish in an area where everyone loses loads of lead. Stones work great (humans have been using them since time immemorial), and cotton thread is certainly better to be leaving in the river than lead!
@keshlalish5586 Жыл бұрын
and with basic tool and a softer stone you can just make some cut on both side to make it more secure. stone sinker would also (i think) be less prone to get stuck between small cracks and small stones.

The Handmade Fisherman well, i have to say that this is how most good ideas start as... i would love to do this too, but i dont havr the resources for a personal shop yet... but out of curiosity, do you think tgis will work for egg style (center hole slip) weights from the same material? and would this also work with commercial landscaping gravel of the same size?

I've been making stone ledgers for years. I use a large swivel and cut one loop off and then gorilla glue the swivel to the top of the stone. holds up really well and the glue is totally waterproof and if I did loose a stone there plenty more around.

As a "thinking angler" I found this very interesting, always looking at ways to fool wary fish and I daresay a tad less expensive than the ones I purchased at a tackle shop. I also purchased some a while back shaped and painted to look like mussels but they are far too nice to risk casting out with the chance of maybe losing one . My grandkids will probably auction them off when I go to that great fishery in the sky and think to themselves how eccentric their granddad was lol.

This has always been part of the joy of fishing for me... making your own stuff. When I was a teen in the 70's my parents were skint, so any tackle I wanted I had to make myself or go without. The satisfaction to be had from recycling materials into fishing gear far outweighs shopping with a credit card and paying ridiculous sums of money for stuff you can easily make yourself. Same goes for bait... bollocks to paying 4 or 5 quid for a small pot of boillies in some exotic flavour.

Nice Idea, and a cheap and easy way to make sinkers. Would work well for still water, but not for moving water. The specific gravity of that stone is probably 2-2.5 where as lead is just over 11. In a moving water situation the rock would move down current significantly farther, even a much larger rock.

Great idea! Mahalo nui. When I lived on the Big Island of Hawai'i all I used was rock weights as the rough bottom would foul weights so buying lead got too expensive.. The rough uneven lava rock made it easy to tie a line onto. I'd use a weaker line for the rock weight so that if fouled I can break it off without losing terminal tackle. Here on the geologically older island of Oahu smooth round river or beach rocks are easier to find so this idea should work great. Aloha.

I make heavy casting weights with 1" hex nuts. While boring out stones may be cheaper if you have the tools, using the nuts is easier, and with epoxy can be ganged. I I tie a loop in one end of a piece of mono and a uni thru the hole with the other end. Casts easily and far, and probably more accurately than an egg sized stone. They do rust but I've never found that to be a deterent to use
