This is the second in the video series where I make a basic injection mould from the master I made in the last video and cast some fishing lures for a bit of test.
Soft plastic is available from Lurefactors.co.uk , lureparts.com , makelure.com , bearsbaits.com , www.jannsnetcraft.com

most of the lure is filled with gravity so it only needs a little push

As always, great video Paul! I found your injection mold solution quite intriguing. I just started pouring and I don't want to spend the money on injection molds nor do I want to sacrifice the joy of making a lure from scratch!
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 7 жыл бұрын
These really rely on gravity as well as the slight pressure needed to overcome it rather than aluminium mould which often require more pressure to force the air out. These are other materials I hope to experiment with to make the moulds before i turn to a cnc machine

Loved Every Minute Of Your Latest Video Another Superb Production Both Of Creativity & Cinematography I Think We Sometimes Forget Just How Hard It Is, To Make Something Look So Simple And You Hit It Every Time Paul. If I Might Add So Tech Advice Make The Tail End Of The Shad Slimmer And The Tail Fatter That Way You'll Get Better Action The Rubber Shads I Buy Are Like That "Great Work, Well Done" 10/10 If I Might Add Too There's A Video Production Company Out There, That Would Benefit From Your Skills You Are Without Doubt A Very Clever Fella

Thanks i still have some adjustments to make to the tail, i don't want to make it thinner as they have tendency to get damaged very easily and also casting them ends up a bit messy but it certainly needs a some more paddle, thanks again
@xoctlv
@xoctlv 7 жыл бұрын
My experience is that tail angle to body must be more close to 90 deg. This will makes tail move more agressive/play more even in slower movement of bait. Because of that I sometimes melt factory made plastic baits with lighter and change angle of bait tail. ;)

two thumbs up as always......have you ever thought of making the paddle disproportionately big and body smaller.... in order to make lure slower and action more? just a thought I have been toying with
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 7 жыл бұрын
I think it is about finding a balance, this lure needs a little more in paddle size department, i would like the paddle to work when the weight of the jig head pulls it down in the water and at the moment it is a bit slow at starting, thanks

Just wondering...is it cost effective to make your own lures this way or do you do it simply as a hobby? I ask because once you have made a mould, you only have to purchase the material used in the lure. Great video as usual. Thanks!
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 7 жыл бұрын
it is a difficult one, i think you will always be able to buy something cheaper, price wise once you have a mould it can cost something 5p- 50p per lure in plastic . But for me it is the hobby, thanks for asking

i am thinking of making glide baits and swimbaits any recomendations for what wood to use?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 7 жыл бұрын
I would start out with scrap wood like pallets or old furniture, lighter wood tend to make more flighty lures and harder woods more gliding as a very rough rule. I think my favourite wood is beech because it is easy to work with any tools having a fine often knot free grain

Great video. I didn't quite understand why you wanted the lure polished and shiny however, also what is the point in coating the lure with silicon via disco ball prior to putting into the mould? If anyone has any tips how to recreate a soft plastic that's no longer made (but I have a few left) that'd be amazing. Thanks :)
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 7 жыл бұрын
If you make a shiny surface you get a shiny surface on the mould and on the lure you cast in the mould. Putting silicone on while the lure turns stretches it and pops any bubbles trapped in the silicone to give a better surface finish on the mould and on any lure you make from it. I would look at kzbin.info they have videos on copy existing lures
