In this recording I used the 4th harmonic pedal in resonance position only. The harmonic pedal was invented by Denis de La Rochefordière.
This video is dedicated to friend and composer Paul Rice. Listen and play Paul’s music with links to free scores in the video info: • Paul Rice - Piano Works
For Content ID review: Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier was composed in 1722 and is a work in the public domain. The video and audio recording was made entirely by myself in my home on a FEURICH 218 concert 1 grand piano fitted with the 4th harmonic pedal. This piano’s unique serial number is F10339 seen on the iron frame.

There is something so much deeper in Bach music than just music. I don't know anything about music, but it feels that listening 10 minutes to Bach is like reading an entire book. Each time a new wonderful book. Thank you!

My old grandmother used to put on records of Viennese waltzes on Sunday morning. It was so pleasant in her house between her record player & her enormous radio which sat on the floor in the dining room. Always music. She hatched a love of music in me that has lasted these 60 years. When I found an album in my middle school library of Bach played on an electronic synthesizer, I was smitten. I drove my poor parents crazy listening over & over to this & similar recordings. But my father, a confirmed lover of Brahms & Gustav Mahler, was not about to interfere with my development of musical taste. To this day, Bach is still my favorite & I hear him wherever I go. His style & melodies are in so many other genres, it is amazing. Thank you Mr Barton, you've brightened my Sunday morning.

Great comment. Relaxation and efficiency are directly related. The more relaxed you are then the more efficiently you will play, and vice versa. If you play Bach with your body all tensed up then you'll just end up sore, tired and angry, probably also performing far too heavily. I feel Bach should be more of a workout for the mind than the body.

The purpose of his Preludes and Fugues is for future composers to learn the melodies of songs in every scale, major and minor, and these seem random as their titles are mainly Prelude and Fugue, and that helped them out. Through his work, Bach is the Grandfather of Music. Major and minor scales can be demonstrated by writing a pair of note series in ascending order, at their closest vertical gaps. The top series is the major and the bottom is the minor.

so often to perform this magnitude of music can be about the performer, the pure, monumental task - like an olympic athlete, but this puts the perspective, not as the observer, observing the performer, but as the observer perceiving how to play - with notation and the ceiling perspective. Very, Very nice.

Gracias. Lucio

Very nice interpretation of the c major prelude. Played with pace and, unlike some renditions, not over-sentimalised. This is a harder prelude than some think, maintaining rhythm and observing the correct note durations.

I agree very strongly. The 48 make a great study aid. I'd also recommend checking out Bach's 2-part inventions and sinfonias, which are good for training contrapuntal play and, particularly on piano, keeping each voice in balance. No voice is more important than any other, so if one hand is too heavy (as my left tends to be) then these works will quickly show you that.
@Zephyrus47
@Zephyrus47 4 жыл бұрын
My plan is starting with Anna Mag. Bach's book, then the short preludes, then inventions and sinfonias, and finally the WTC.

I’d say, in WTC book 1, Preludes 1, 4, 8, 9, 12, 16, 22, 23 and 24 are relatively less difficult than the others in terms of finding and playing notes. In terms of musical difficulty, all the P&F are equally difficult. The easiest Prelude to play that sounds difficult is 21. While I'm here - I found Fugues 9, 10, 15 and 19 to be the most difficult (in terms of playing notes) and Fugues 20 and 24 the hardest to memorize.
