I like how you never use an angle grinder and just freehand some ugly shapes out of everything. I know that kind of fabrication has its place but seeing you machine stuff is a lot more stimulating, especially with all the puzzles involved.

I really appreciate this approach to design and fabrication. I like to think I can create art someday...or anything for that matter. But I mostly lack internal visualization and so working with the tangible parts and pieces helps me to see how something might look after I put it together. Thanks for sharing your creative process, Paul--and Mitch☕☕

On your way to the salt flats, make sure you know where all the closest car washes are, so that when you come off, you can immediately spend $50 in quarters hosing the salt off the bike. And the tow vehicle. And yourself. And everything else.
@paulbrodie
@paulbrodie Ай бұрын
I hear you. Apparently, there is a product, sold down there, called "Salt Away" that does a good job of melting off the salt. And when we return, the Aermacchi get stripped down completely and rebuilt.

Now the chain guards mount will move with the chain adjuster, you'll have to account for adding a slotted hole to either the front or rear of the guard.

What is the chain guard originally designed to fit? It looks as if it should be fitted to a bike with a right side chain…
@bobhudson6659
@bobhudson6659 Ай бұрын
Are you implying that Paul doesn't know his left from his right? Please give Paul credit for knowing what he is doing. Guard is correctly designed fitted to the correct LH side with the longer/deeper side facing outwards to prevent anything from wrapping itself in the chain.
@paultinwell5557
@paultinwell5557 Ай бұрын
@@bobhudson6659 not at all. If I wanted to say something I would; I don't do implication. In my experience, the longer side at the front is there to prevent road debris picked up by the tyre being dumped onto the chain. Not exclusive of course, as I've seen this solution mounted on bikes that are more "rider-image" focussed than performance. I'm just curious to know which bike it was originally fitted to, particularly because mounting the guard in the way shown prioritises rider protection over chain protection. I fully expect the rider will be wearing leathers (rider protection not needed) and I equally expect a pile of salt dumped on the chain isn't an optimum solution.

Paul, it always terrifies me every time I see you wearing gloves when you use the band saw. I've had the band saw blade catch gloves before and drag my hand into the blade. Gloves are good for many things, but should be used sparingly around machinery.
@paulbrodie
@paulbrodie Ай бұрын
I understand what you are saying.. One day I was sawing a very small piece of steel, and it caught and flipped up. I had gloves on. The blade ripped the glove a bit, but saved my hand... I appreciate there are 2 sides to this situation, and I promise to be very careful...
