One of, if not the, best and most beautiful Disney love song of the bunch. What I love about it too, is it starts out much like Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King, where the characters singing it internally, but at the end, they sing as if it were a love song proper. But it works because it's as if the two are finally truly opening up their feelings towards one another, and the fact that their love was properly built up throughout the movie, not only makes this moment feel earned, but also even more beautiful as a result.

I love how you can see exactly when that lightbulb goes off in their head. For Eugene, he's kinda been in denial about his feelings for a bit (i.e. he already caught feelings when he saw her playing with the kids and having her hair braided. Maximus (the horse btw) nudges him and he low key realizes that he's caught feelings but he pushes the thought away). When he starts his internal singing, he's already in love, and he's done being in denial about it. He's looking at her like she's the most precious thing in the world (and she is, to him). As for Rapunzel, when she says "All at once everything looks different, now that I see you", I think that's when she finally realizes. She sees him in a slightly different new light. Of course she's trusted him with her life and defended him against her mom before this, but I think this is when the lightbulb in her head turns on, and she finally realizes that she likes Flynn in a romantic sense. That's why it feels so genuine to me. It's not love at first sight, it's love that has developed over the course of their journey, and *that's* when they open up to it, rather than "I saw him, I love him, and now we're married".

When this movie came out in 2010, this scene made my jaw just drop. I still consider it one of the studio's highest achievements, a perfect blend of a beautiful song, expertly sung, BRILLIANTLY animated, and tucked into the plot at the perfect moment. I'm fairly sure there's not a sequence in an animated Disney film released since then that matches it.

So many thoughts: 1. Pascale's smile @ 1:10 is so sweet! He's the cutest little lizard ever! 2 The only way this scene could have been any better would be if we got to briefly see Maximus's reaction to the lanterns while he's standing on the docks. Maybe he'd have a small but genuine "I always like seeing this" smile. 3. @ 2:20- 2:25, I could be mistaken, but I believe that lantern was the one that her parents released. Nice detail. 4. This song got nominated for the Oscar for Best Song. It didn't win, but I remember that it did get one distinction: While I was watching the performances of all the Best Song nominees before the winner was announced, "I See the Light" was the only one of them that I sang along to. 5. My girlfriend and I went to Magic Kingdom a few weeks ago (An amazing visit for both of us with a lot of firsts for us as a couple), and when watching the Happily Ever After fireworks show, this song played at one point. It is now our song.
