After going through these a few times I was hearing what everyone else seems to be hearing. Chris Buck and Pete Thorn both have that special sauce in their playing. He used to be a guitar player but he doesn't really keep up his playing as the primary thing so I guess to his standards he knows he could be a much better player than his current form.

I've watched this video twice, once when it premiered and again today, the thing that stands out the most to me is not the guitar playing but more of how much more I understood what each player was saying when describing their approach. The reason you learn theory is so that you can speak a common language with other musicians both in the jam but more importantly to me, verbally. I think that anytime you can communicate better with others it leads to a more positive experience for everyone involved, so when someone says they are not willing to learn any theory it to me immediately tells me their music is going to be stymied in some way. I know it may seem daunting to learn but music is a universal language, and once you learn it, it will open up so many avenues for you to create and express yourself through your music.

When you see 'one track, ten solos' from such talent you automatically start thinking 'whose will be best?' but what you discover is that you end up experiencing the genius of expression from adept artists of the guitar. Each artist had a unique and beautiful interpretation. I feel fortunate enough to be able to appreciate each one's voice and not feel any need to pick a winner. Just beautiful! Great concept, Paul.

Exactly. Picking a "best" is pointless, and I wouldn't even bother trying to determine a personal favorite. They were all very different in style, and I think that's why they were all really good-- each one had their own distinct musical personality.

@spamspasm81833 жыл бұрын
Another thing that gets me about Chris is his playing sounds so decidedly modern in every good way. I can't explain it. It has all the soul and tradition of the entire history of the instrument but with such a refreshing take on it. I mean ofc there's bits and pieces that you recognize as his influences but it comes together in such a "new" way.
