Amazing video Paul, there's no doubt that Gibson has made a mighty comeback these last years. I recently picked up a standard 60s iced tea and it is without a question the nicest craftsmanship I've seen comparing it to my pro ii strat, american tele, and PRS SE. It feels like it was made with love, played beautifully out of the box, and believe it or not, tuned it once and for the last 2 weeks has stayed in tune. Dropped the strings during the set up, gave the fretboard a nice shine, put some ernie ball strings on, and this les paul has become more of a shredding machine than my pro ii strat and that speaks volumes.

Once you have read the interview that Tony Bacon had with Seth Lover, you will realise that "German silver" is the material that you need for good humbucker covers. reverb.com/news/interview-seth-lover-on-inventing-the-paf-humbucker-and-why-he-left-gibson-for-fender-bacons-archive Technically gold is not the right material for humbucker covers. Seth Lover never agreed with the decision of the marketing department to used gold for the covers. It was that decision that made guitar players remove the pickup covers. If you start with German silver, there is no need for that, but then the rest of the guitar should be Ni-Chrome too of course.

The 2019 LP traditional is the exact same as this guitar. These 2020 versions dubbed the "standard 50s" even have the same AA flamed top available. The 2 differences are that the 2019 Traditional does not have the pick guard attached (nor the holes drilled which imho opinion is a HUGE plus) and the truss rod cover says traditional. Otherwise they are effectively the same guitar. 0 weight relief, so they both feel substantial in the hand. I managed to purchase a brand new 2019 Traditional for $1499 + taxes (with some back and forth with the manager) of a larger music store just a few days ago. I'm really please with the deal I managed to get. $1000usd less then what the "going" rate is for the "2020" models. I am extremely please with the quality. I had the entire guitar apart already. The routing of the cavities is very clean, the soldering and wiring job are top notch. The binding looks amazing and the frets are perfect. Maybe I just lucked out. Btw if you feel like you are missing some "high-end or tone" from either pick up or they are "too bright" just slightly adjust the pickup higher or lower. I mean its really simple. The smallest adjustments make a big difference. People seam to forget that.

Just picked up a 2023 50s les Paul standard having traded a 06 with a 60s neck . The neck is huge .Almost like a 52 tele. Big neck, BIG tone . Oh yeh!

haha right? i was a bit on edge when hes shuffling those guitars around as i always bash mine. Recently I dropped the lid of my martin case, right on to the body while the tooth from the buckle dug in and made a nice gouge. That F'ing hurt. My buddy: "all good it adds character" lol

I agree on the push-pull pots. I've also not yet heard any humbucker produce a satisfactory single coil sound. Seems like you need to go to a Telecaster/Stratocaster for that. I do love the 19' Standard, but it's ABR-1 is using bushings, and the short neck tenon is the deal breaker.
@fredn27355 жыл бұрын
Gibson did a really good job in 2019 I've got one , a standard sunburst it's pretty awesome. I've had R8 's and R9's .... The price point for these new standards is really good with the quality and their price point

@@gilh3947 Yeah, but gibson has lost a big chunk of the market. A decade+ of mediocrity can ruin things. And there are great alternatives. I can safely say I ll never buy gibson or fender.

I think Gibson could do just two changes on all guitars...neck volute to reinforce and a minor angle at the headstock for best tuning stability.
@AmpAHolic-wn6mr5 жыл бұрын
Seriously? Neck Volute? Maybe Fender should bring back the 3 bolt neck. Wait a minute.....
@matthewtucker16995 жыл бұрын
i agree on the volute, but the angle (and lack of tuning stability) are gibson trademark in my opinion. it makes you play a certain way, but to each their own i guess
@lowqualityguitarvideos5 жыл бұрын
@@AmpAHolic-wn6mr what is wrong with a volute? just curious
@rfuza5 жыл бұрын
@@AmpAHolic-wn6mr What's wrong with the volute? They don't affect tone or playability. Just make that region of the neck stronger.

Hey Paul, not sure Gibson ever went away they just changed direction for a while. My 2016 LP Standard ticked all the boxes for me and the push pull options are there if you want/need them. I agree that they don’t get much use as modern interface units do the business. Here hoping the sensible approach to steady continuous improvement and quality control is maintained by Gibson! Great guitar review and the video editing is also pretty sweet. 🎸🙏🏻👍
