As a Strat player, I gotta say I’m happy Gibson hired Mark and looks to be listening to him already. Hopefully both Fender and Gibson stay around, and remain iconic.

that line was announced way before mark was appointed way back at NAMM. Mark's influence on Gibson won't be noticeable for some time. Except for some social media work i guess.

Got one in sunburst after the great reviews on how Gibson started caring about it's quality again. Gotta say I love it! Ordered it and was pleasantly surprised how beautiful it was. I just walked in the door from Long & McQuade with my 2019 Heritage Cherryburst LP Standard. The thing is gorgeous and flawless. The thicker neck took a few minutes to get used to but I think it adds resonance as compared to the 60s neck. (could me just my ear) I like the fact it has no push pull knobs. To each their own but I found those guitars gave me option paralysis. This thing is simple and packs a punch!

The MSRP is $3,200 CDN. They look and feel nice, but i noticed that all 5 of the new models that I observed had visible jumps in the frets when looking straight up or down the the fret board. The rest of the build from what I observed was what one could expect from a 2012 Les Paul Traditional. Very clean and classy. None the less, I enjoyed your review and as always top shelf content and production!

Just slightly raise the neck pick-up and it transforms into a thing of beauty. Mine came from the factory perfectly set up apart from the neck pickup being slightly low. This new dude they hired from Norman’s is the best thing that’s happened to Gibson in the past 10 years. I can’t tell you how excited I am that they are making essentially vintage spec les paul specials and jrs again at a non-VOS price. P90 guitars are my favorite and the last few that gibson have released have been garbage both in looks and quality. Glad to see they got their act together with this series.

Amazing video Paul, there's no doubt that Gibson has made a mighty comeback these last years. I recently picked up a standard 60s iced tea and it is without a question the nicest craftsmanship I've seen comparing it to my pro ii strat, american tele, and PRS SE. It feels like it was made with love, played beautifully out of the box, and believe it or not, tuned it once and for the last 2 weeks has stayed in tune. Dropped the strings during the set up, gave the fretboard a nice shine, put some ernie ball strings on, and this les paul has become more of a shredding machine than my pro ii strat and that speaks volumes.

Once you have read the interview that Tony Bacon had with Seth Lover, you will realise that "German silver" is the material that you need for good humbucker covers. reverb.com/news/interview-seth-lover-on-inventing-the-paf-humbucker-and-why-he-left-gibson-for-fender-bacons-archive Technically gold is not the right material for humbucker covers. Seth Lover never agreed with the decision of the marketing department to used gold for the covers. It was that decision that made guitar players remove the pickup covers. If you start with German silver, there is no need for that, but then the rest of the guitar should be Ni-Chrome too of course.

The 2019 LP traditional is the exact same as this guitar. These 2020 versions dubbed the "standard 50s" even have the same AA flamed top available. The 2 differences are that the 2019 Traditional does not have the pick guard attached (nor the holes drilled which imho opinion is a HUGE plus) and the truss rod cover says traditional. Otherwise they are effectively the same guitar. 0 weight relief, so they both feel substantial in the hand. I managed to purchase a brand new 2019 Traditional for $1499 + taxes (with some back and forth with the manager) of a larger music store just a few days ago. I'm really please with the deal I managed to get. $1000usd less then what the "going" rate is for the "2020" models. I am extremely please with the quality. I had the entire guitar apart already. The routing of the cavities is very clean, the soldering and wiring job are top notch. The binding looks amazing and the frets are perfect. Maybe I just lucked out. Btw if you feel like you are missing some "high-end or tone" from either pick up or they are "too bright" just slightly adjust the pickup higher or lower. I mean its really simple. The smallest adjustments make a big difference. People seam to forget that.

I walked away with two guitars, a Gibson ES-275 Thinline 2019 and a Fender MIJ Traditional 60's Stratocaster (because you know if you are in Japan you might as well pick one of these up!). Having played previous year ES-335s - horrid fit and finish and playability - I have to say I am very, very happy with my 2019 ES-275. Very nice for jazz. Fit and finish very, very good - almost excellent. And most importantly it plays extremely well.

Hey Paul! Great Video as always! Glad to see, that Gibson might be finding their way back on track. Regarding the push/pull Switch thing. I thought just the same way, until I recently got my Hands on an Epiphone Les Paul ES. That a Semi Hollow version of the Les Paul and it's absolutely stunning. And using the Push Pull Switches to split the Humbuckers just gives the guitar such an extra amount of tones... it's amazing. It can almost reproduce strat sounds and this just blew me away. So ifyou might ever get the chance to try out one of these, go for it. These guitars are amazing. All the best and stay safe and healthy!

Does Gibson still put potted pickups on these series? Don't get me wrong but I love the microphonic sound of my strat and my previous cheap epiphone.

I'm a fender guy personally, but I was just looking at guitars online and for some reason these 50's & 60's standards just caught my eye... something looks different in a good way...after researching them and finding out all the subtle changes and apparently a new CEO? It seems like Gibson might be headed in the right direction.... I've honestly never played one that I've liked...I even bought one back in the 90's trying to force myself to like it...I haven't played one of these yet but I have a feeling that I'm going to love it🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸

I'd be interested in seeing what you think of the actual production run guitars when they come out...thats where gibson need to get it right for me 8/10 les pauls on the wall in a shop are not good guitars, it needs to be the other way round.

Gage Pine Buying Gibson guitars is like playing darts. They have some serious qc issues. Just go to your local guitar store and pickup a few. When you get a good one it’s magical but good luck, I’d never blind buy one. What bugs me is the neck angle has been proven to mess with tuning and structural integrity of the Gibsons but they won’t change to keep it “original”. Go watch a Gibson factory tour video then go watch a PRS factory video, get back to me.

@@codykensington1424 I didn't miss the point. I'm agreeing with him. I'm saying that Gibson shouldn't be charging $2500 for premium guitars if the product isn't worth $2500. They shouldn't be having 8/10 guitars be low quality. It should be 95% or higher. Tbh. 100%. If Gibson is going to charge such high prices for the guitar it should be perfect. Otherwise they lose their integrity with consumers. Like what has happened. Hope that clears it up

I’ve had 4 Gibsons, all have been amazing. I’m the guy that likes the new stuff, my Les Paul is just over 8 pounds and pull pots, love it! My hollow body is ES 339, love it! I get guys that want it to be true to the 50’s guitars. Not me, I’ve compared to “real Gibson’s” not much tonal differences to my ears. Nice guitar! Congrats!

I agree on the push-pull pots. I've also not yet heard any humbucker produce a satisfactory single coil sound. Seems like you need to go to a Telecaster/Stratocaster for that. I do love the 19' Standard, but it's ABR-1 is using bushings, and the short neck tenon is the deal breaker.

Hey Paul, not sure Gibson ever went away they just changed direction for a while. My 2016 LP Standard ticked all the boxes for me and the push pull options are there if you want/need them. I agree that they don’t get much use as modern interface units do the business. Here hoping the sensible approach to steady continuous improvement and quality control is maintained by Gibson! Great guitar review and the video editing is also pretty sweet. 🎸🙏🏻👍
