Thanks this was very helpful! I'm a singer, correcting the key of an instrumental to my range. When I did what you said and played it back the sound was rough and not clear, just not good, so I checked the "Use high quality stretching" and it made a world of difference, so now I can use this instrumental when I perform. Thanks again!

Thank you for this. I have a 16 hole Chromatic harmonica that plays in the key of C when not pushing the slider button on the side. With this Audacity feature I can theoretically change the key of the instrument without have to learn the complicated scales that involve the slide button. I cannot wait to try this out! Thanks again!

To leave a late contribution to the question, I sample alot of noises or sounds I get from videos, or things like screams, which need to be changed quite a bit until they fit into the melodies. So that's what I'd change the pitch of.

I'd like to use the pitch changer for choir direction. In my vocal range I can record demo videos of all choral parts except the soprano part. I plan to demo my voice an octave lower than the sopranos AND a full chipmunk octave above that (proper soprano) simultaneously. It'll sound pretty silly I think but it will help us acheive our goals.

I write choral music and during COVID would like to try creating a "sample" arrangement with different voices but using my own voice as much as possible. So e.g. I will be trying to turn my alto voice into a bass's. Since I'm new to Audacity this will mean considerable playing around, but what the hey, I'm retired.

Hi! Wow....choral music, that sounds really interesting and not something I've ever done. I'd love to hear if you managed to get any good results with this....

Paul, I would love a tutorial on how to add a high vocal harmony. For example, if I sing and record the melody, and the high harmony I want to do is a third or fifth above that but is out of my vocal range, I would like to lower the pitch and speed of everything, sing the high part at the lower pitch and speed, thereby being within my range, then revert the song to normal pitch and speed. (I used to do with this my now defunct Tascam four track which had a pitch wheel). I would imagine I would then have the higher vocal harmony part at normal pitch, hopefully without it sounding like one of the chipmunks. This would be a useful technique for many solo recordists who want harmonies but cannot sing overly high. I would only use the technique for high harmonies and not the main melody. What do you think? Greetings from Australia.

I continually have a problem the music sounding poor quality and clammy when I slow it down when making Chopped and Screwed/ decaf music how do I retain the clarity in the treble as well as the voices? . Ps I subscribed I like your video!
@josephs.33723 жыл бұрын
Don't think there's a way to stop that from happening. I always have an EQ ready to start tinkering with it until I get to a certain clarity I like. It's always going to be worse than the raw version, though, as far as I know.

Great work Paul! I tried Audacity but find it pretty tricky! I would appreciate a video about how to use audacity (like the basics, and maybe making the track clearer etc) :) Great work
@PaulDouglasMusician6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You're not the first person I've heard say they find Audacity tricky - I think the user interface divides opinion. Great idea about a video on the basics - can't promise anything but I'll add it to my (ever growing!) list of video ideas. Do you use Audio Editor instead of Audacity that you find easier?

Really good to watch, Paul but will it work on a complex fully orchestrated karaoke backing track? The (first) one I would like to change (into EbM) is 'Still Crazy After All These Years' which I will then hopefully be able to sing and play along to (on my Kawai MP8 piano). Thanks so much. PS I am not very good with tech :-(

It's a fine feature. But when I try to change a single note in a vocal track it produces a pop on the wave where the end of the selection was. I'm trying to handle this.

Paul, I hope you can help me. I am a NON professional keyboard player, and want to practice playing along with recordings, in different keys, without changing the speed. I downloaded Audacity, but on the "Effects" tab, the 'Pitch' button (and many others) are gray. I think I also need some plug in, but do not know which one? Any advice. I am running Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit. Thank you VERY much. Patrick

Hi Paul, great video. I use pitch change when I am digitizing old reel to reel tapes. Mostly I have to raise the pitch by a semi-tone. Is there a way to also speed up the track at the same time? I heard that if the original audio was recorded on a different tape deck than the playback deck, the speed as well as pitch can be different.

Thanks for the great tutorials!! I know the pitch or frequency that I want to have for the track. Do I must know the exact original pitch of the song?
@PaulDouglasMusician4 жыл бұрын
Hi, and you're welcome! Yes, you'd need to know the original pitch to know how much you need to lower/raise the pitch by to your desired pitch. You could do it by trial and error, but this might be rather time consuming....😉

Always use semitone adjustment! Built in key change may cause very poor quality.

I use this all the time. Heres a cover i did. I changed the pitch of the song to match my guitar in standard tuning to record. Then reverted the song audio back to what it originally was then changed the pitch of my guitar using the software. Much easier and quicker than retuning all the time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/an7CaHhsbqudrrM
