In Germany it´s a common practice too. We are required to have a first aid kit and a warning triangle in the car. Most people have it in the trunk. Law enforcement is entitled to see it and ask for it. I have mine in the passenger cabin. Police officers did not ask me to open the trunk when they noticed where my FAK was. I do comply with their requests to see license, registration and ID though.

Be careful with "Go file a complaint later" also. It's not uncommon that walking into a department and announcing you want to file a complaint results in retaliation. If you want to file a complaint, PLEASE get a lawyer to do it for you.

The last part reminds me of when I got my CCL (which isn't required here anymore) and the instructor played the dashboard cam video of an infamous small town Ohio cop that upon being informed that the driver had a licensed carry gun stated, "I could put a bullet in your head and sleep like a baby tonight" completely unprovoked. His partner ultimately had to send him back to the cruiser and finish the traffic stop alone. Nowadays, we don't have to legally declare we're carrying anymore.
@hondolane3125

I've taken to heart the philosophy I learned in my CPL class: If you don't tell an officer you have a firearm and license, he very well may see that you have a license when he runs your info at the car. Now, he is both wondering if you have your firearm with you, and why you didn't declare it. More importantly, declaring that you have a CPL, even when not carrying, tells the officer a lot about you - that you have been vetted at one of the highest levels in order to acquire your license. The officer will be more relaxed with less unknowns, which is always good for you. Dang it is good to see Paul up to participating in the videos with Roy!

This is why I dont bring it up unless there is a reason to, such as being asked to exit the vehicle, which has not yet happened to me. I dont believe its necessary information and may just complicate what should be a 10-15 minute delay in my travel. If I dont pull it out, they wont pull theirs out. Its that simple. I switched my wallet to my weak side so I wouldnt have to reach in the vicinity and possibly accidentally reveal it. Ive never had any issue across 6-8 stops in the past 15 years.

Overwhelming evidence that those complaints either go right in the trash or get you investigated and harassed by police. It's a club, and you ain't in it. There's a reason the DA, Sheriff, Judge, and city council are all "elected" same party and put right next to each other - it's them vs the people. A complaint isn't going to reverse that corruption, and there is no law you can use to "undo" their corrupt act. Use your rights, resist peacefully, group up, expose, protest, and replace government.

And have a neat tidy interior. I was on my way home from work one day in my aging Ranger that had Ford pattern baldness when a cop picked me up with laser radar from about an eight of a mile away. He flagged me over into a church parking lot. Before I even got to him, I rolled the window down, pulled over well away from the road (safer for him and less noise), and shut the truck off. As he approached my window, he started introducing himself in a very gruff voice. When he was standing beside me mid-sentence his entire demeanor changed. He was talking to a guy in a suit and tie driving a truck with a spotless interior and some peeling paint on the roof. I ended up getting a warning, despite the fact I was doing 50 in a 40.

I love seeing the latest, greatest and up to datist Harrell brothers video! As a former LEO, even I have to constantly try and keep up with the laws of local and state law enforcement. Paul made probably the most important point about choosing to comply or not comply with an unlawful order of a LEO. There's a time and place for both and both choices have their own repercussions. Wherever you stand be prepared for the repercussions. Sadly we've all seen the videos of times where not complying with an unlawful order ended badly. Your family may win millions in the court case afterwards but I bet they'd rather still have mom, dad, brother or sister still with them instead.

Years ago I was in downtown Baltimore, MD at a traffic light and when the light turned green I pulled away. A cop who was behind me at that light turned on his lights and I pulled over to see what was wrong. He asked if I had a gun with me, I didn't, and he told me that because I had Virginia tags he stopped me just because Virginia has much less stringent firearms laws and he thought I might have one with me. I was a civilian dispatcher for a Federal Law Enforcement agency at the time, but I decided not to ask for his supervisor, simply worth the added time it would have taken. Did he have a legal reason to stop me, No he didn't, but I didn't make a fuss and went on my way. Some cops are just jerks.

In California if you don't have a concealed carry permit it is a good idea not to tell them that you have a gun in the car. You want the stop to be as short as possible. If you do tell them that's in the car they will pull you out of the car cuff you and make sure it's legal. Then they will search your entire car for their own safety. As far as I know you don't have to tell them if you don't have a concealed carry permit. You can carry it legally but once you tell them that it's in the trunk of your car your stop is going to be prolonged and they will look for a crime.
