I love my T1 and will be sticking with it as the T2/T3 can’t be used with mounting beneath the TV (at least not as easily). It’s all linked to my Home Assistant/Hubitat/Homekit environment and the colour accuracy is plenty good enough for me. Plus the T3 doesn’t seem to have 75 inch support yet. Tip: Use the KZbin calibration video which has the 4 orange squares in the corner to save sticking the physical ones on your screen during setup.

Watched the video yesterday, bought it and installed it today. Works great. Be sure to pick the "Part" option to get the colors to match the action on the screen. This is a great option for us as we feed our TV with an ethernet cable. The camera sits at a 90 degree angle to the screen and I thought it a bit too obvious, but you quickly don't notice it when you're involved with a show. Them ones look like 30ppm, I went for 60ppm myself. I use an esp32 connected to the strip with WLED installed, and that interfaces with the Raspberry Pi with HyperHDR installed on it. I then use an HDMI capture box and a spitter to take the signal going into the TV. Yes, I know it's rather technical compared to the Govee solution, and I understand some people just wouldn't be arsed with it. Why compare this T3 lite vs the T1 and not the T2?, could be because the T2 is pricier (67€ vs 99€), have double leds and 2 lens in 1 camera to cover better the tv, althought it does not have the automatic turn off functionality, for me this product, remember it has Lite in it's name, seems as the entry level and the t2 and I suppose next iterations for more advance users as in Govees light strips, they have the BT only 30 leds/m, the wifi and BT 30 leds/m, the wifi 60 leds/m with protection, all this for interior, I think this is the same for the tv lights, they make two categories

However, if you've got Sky Glass, a camera-mounted system like this one could be a great alternative to sync boxes. Personally, after researching similar products, I find FancyLEDs to be the most reactive, and that's the level of accuracy I'm looking for. I've got a Philips TV in the kitchen with built in Ambilight which is fine, then I bought the Philips add-on lights with HDMI Syns Box for my main Samsung TV which works great except when using Samsungs Smart Hub to watch BBC iPlayer or other apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime, the lights still react to whatever is playing through the Sync Box. My next tellybox is going to be the ginormous TCL 98" and I'll try the Govee solution as using camera detection will also control the lights when using the apps. Just hope the Govee 85" kit will be enough as I can't see they make a 95" - 100" rig.

Another pretty big CON of the Camera vs HDMI sync is aspect ratio. If you watch nothing but 16:9 on your 16:9 screen it's all good. But if you watch some movies that have a much wider aspect ratio, you end up with black bars on your screen and the camera doesn't know how to handle that because it sees black on the top and bottom. HDMI sync analyzes the video signal before it's ever output to a screen so you won't have that issue.

About 7 years ago i got a dreamscreen (and then the 4k version later) which is a sync box thru hdmi. Unfortunately due to lack of demand and some other issues, the creater decided to ditch dreamscreen. Its an amazing product that is still going strong. However because my receiver is not 4k i had to add a 4k splitter into the mix and run 2 seperate 4k lines (one to tv, other to sync box) and it was a tedious setup process. I do have other govee lights that i love as well (floor lamp, 2 glides, and some 64 footers) i also have a bunch of hue bulbs. I have the first version, and I'm looking to replace it. When I got it, I had a 60-inch TV, but now I have a 70-inch, so the camera just doesn't work as well. Because the version I got was designed for the smaller screen, when it was put on the larger screen it's not picking up all the edges. It works, but not as well as it did on the smaller screen. I like Govee and trust their products, and I wish they offered an HDMI box because I'd like to move to that technology to get rid of the camera setup. Also, it looks like the two camera models they have are 55-65 and 75-85, which puts my 70-inch TV right in the middle of not being well suited to either of them. When my wife saw the 70-inch I brought home about a year ago, she said it was too big, but now that she's gotten used to the size she wants a bigger one. Women. Looks like 75-inch TVs are around $1K and 85-inch TVs are around $2K, so maybe it's time to upgrade that and then get the Govee camera for the larger size TV.

@tonyoconnor72925 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, Great video. As well as providing great straight forward information it was funny. I purchased the Govee 3 Lite after seeing it.. I just want to ask you one quick question . I'm just about to fit the Light strip to my 55 inch Lg Oled and my question is how far in from the edge of the TV should I fit the Light Strip ? Thanks
@rgrissom110 ай бұрын
Do you prefer this over the Govee hdmi sync box? I would be using with Nividia shield . Also can you mix hue and Govee lights together with Alexa? Any help would be much appreciated

I had the previous edition of the govee ambilights but i ended my adventure by selling the tv with the govee camera and ledstrips still on it and buying a philips tv with ambilights built in from the factory. No more dissapointments, better then an hdmi box and the tv itself also has ambilight when watching. Maybe this new version 3 of govee could have made me happy for a cheaper price lol

Tried setting mine up today, colour matching is terrible, hopefully just down to me not doing calibration correctly or something! Have raised a ticket with Govee.
@petebanham374210 ай бұрын
Pls let us know how you get on. I upgraded from the T1 today and while the matching is generally okay for me and the LEDs are definitely brighter, I can't get it go dark on blacks, it just shows red for some reason!

How does this compare to the dual camera system Govee sell?
@Peechaable9 ай бұрын
Badly. This is just T1.5. It can't match the T2 dual camera system. The strip on the T2 have double the led amount, and that alone makes huge difference.

Ok, I built one of these HDMI based devices out of Raspberry PI and some good LEDs, and it's very accurate and colors are dead on. If there is any lag, it's very, very low (this did take months of tweaking). The problem comes up now with video games, HDMI 2.1 and VRR (variable refresh rate). A HDMI box for this would not work well with VRR. So pretty much in my setup now, I have no ambilight on my newest game consoles. I have tried some workarounds but, none really work that does not cause issues. I am worried about lag, when playing playing video games,

is there any diy solution availible with a Pi and a higher performance camera, in place of using hdmi ?
@TheCoolDave9 ай бұрын
@@hazebanana First of all, No 3rd party offers a camera setup as far as I know. Ok, the PI version. It uses Hyperion software and with a 4K 60hz capture device, I was able to get it working fine, in the Hyperion software it's actually running at 720P (This is not major as the lights will be in the same place). This WILL require a HDMI out for this. You can use a AVR with 2 HDMI outs (like I was using), or a HDMI splitter on the final leg before the TV. I built this setup, and it took a few months tweaking it on and off to get it running perfect. This is a messy case, you need the LEDs, wires (power wires at the start of the LED and in the middle), a good power supply and a PI . This does work good, with tweaking but, NEEDS a HDMI source. I did a lot of research on this Govee TV BackLight 3 with the fisheye camera (seems more accurate than they past models), and after reading and seeing how it works in gaming from reviews, I decided to go with it. It's a cleaner install, works with all sources, and is very low on the lag issues. It's fairly easy to setup and get working accurate. I have NOT installed it yet (remodeling the room so the system is down as of now). Once setup if I find lag bad (I am very sensitive to lag), I will look for a replacement. Hate spending $90 just to need to be replaced. I am very verbal on issues, so Govee will know if it's that bad, across Twitter (X) and Facebook. Trust me, they will know.

Not sure, their documentation for this review said the camera had been redesigned to fit ultra thin TV’s. I don’t know if it was a realisation that newer TVs just don’t have anything to stick the camera to

Having watched this video and being impressed I bit the bullet and bought one, after 5 days of attempting to configure it with the help of Govee I have had to reluctantly give up. The colour accuracy particularly at the bottom of my screen was way out, almost displaying random colours. Govee told me they had done a firmware update yesterday but this did not help I am now seeking a refund. In the mean time I ordered the Philips Sync box and yes it is ridiculously expensive but it blows the Govee out of the water, simply no comparison, I guess the Govee might work for some depending on your TV size etc but it will be a gamble so be warned.

Maybe other light sources are disctracting the picture the camera takes in and interpretes? In another video the PS5 stood next to the TV and the LED light of it was responsible for the inaccuracy.

Two questions come to mind immediately. One germane to all viewers. And one specific to my situation: First, how can one automatically coordinate this with the on/off function of their TV? Second, what if your walls behind the TV are not white? In my case, they're brick.

mine is set to come on when I ask Alexa to turn on the TV, she has a routine that does both together (and the same for off)
@tharais10 ай бұрын
@@chaymation2 Thanks. In my own case, I have to consider my wife as well. I can't get her to use the Apple TV I got us. Or the single remote I've programmed to work with our satellite box, TV and soundbar. She refuses to "learn" anything. And sticks with using the Roku built into our TV and three remotes. In here defense I must say, that modern TV viewing of any sort is rather complex. It's not just the hardware or the software either. The naming of the various options creates confusion. Especially with Apple names. But with others as well. I mean, we have Roku the app on the TV and there is also a Roku channel. And, the very name "channel" isn't the singular item it once was either. I play with this stuff all the time and I still get confused sometimes.
