The Sopranos' take on individual spirituality is scary accurate to how real people deal with these things. I find that when it comes to religion, they ALL make it up as they go along, and each and every one of them have a reason their own sins were valid or forgivable and they'll make it to heaven or whatever. Just betrays how utterly silly the whole thing is, seems like we'd all grow out of it by adulthood. When I was a kid, I was fairly out of control and when grown people were telling me that for doing bad things I go to the bad fiery place to burn, it failed to scare me at all and sort of just seemed hilarious and made up. So I personally felt like it was bullshit even before I was 14.

Paulie probably wouldn't know that is false. In the Inferno, the final circle of of Hell has contains the Devil with 3 heads, surrounded by the worst sinners frozen in ice. Each head is chewing on the worst of the worst throughout history (Brutus, Judas, and Cassius I think), according to the poem betrayal is the worst sin. Satan creates a cold wind that continues to freeze the ice surrounding him and the other sinners in the ninth circle. The winds he creates are felt throughout the other circles of Hell, so even the other circles are cold. This other tidbit, not sure if it was from the Inferno or not, maybe it was from Milton instead, but Hell is cold/freezing because it is the furtherest (esspecially the ninth circle) anyone can be from God's love. It's not like I would expect Paulie to know much about religion mythology. He is probably well versed in the Bible and going to church but Hell and it's temperature isn't really a topic that is covered in sermons and in the Bible. Now I would say that it couldn't possibly be hot, because how can something that doesn't exist have a temp?

@daviddedominici17053 жыл бұрын
It's not that he needed credit for the visit: Paulie was in desperate need of further information from Chris, so that he might confirm his suspicion that Chrissy had in fact visited purgatory rather than hell - and thus relieving himself of the stress of potential fiery eternity, brought on by Christopher's original inference. Paulie'd been wanting to get back to that hospital room for further interrogation since the minute Tony forced an end to his original inquiries.

The Sopranos under-stories are very similar to the ancient greek tales. Recklessness, when in embraced in life breathes life to the supernatural proportionately, without it you are just an impulsive animal. It's the tragic duality of life - there cannot be purpose without fear of something to live for. Sounds pretentious I know, but Sopranos is really a masterpiece because of details like this. The fear of losing family and the suffering of the consequences of protecting them is really humanities main drive.

I interviewed an defence lawyer who died while in a coma and was brought back - just - coming conscious 12 days later... he told me he went to Hell too. Said his experience was like a dark maze, full of shit and rats, and snakes, and terrifying noise - and just when he thought he was there for good he saw a white light, grabbed for it and woke up. His daughter was holding his hand and crying beside his bed. There's more to this story too. Which sends it right out there for me. A year after I met this guy, I met another guy - seemingly unconnected, lived over a hundred miles away from the other guy - in the course of my work (financial stuff), and this other guy also told me he had one of those out of body things - but went to a heavenly type place. He too came back. When I mentioned the first guy's story to him (as the only other time I'd heard that kind of thing) the second guy's jaw visibly dropped and he asked if that was the name of the first guy. I said 'yes, how'd you know that?' and it turned out the first guy had been due to defend the second guy in the Old Bailey (for an alledged trumped up fraud charge) the morning the first guy got ill and went into his coma. The second guy had never known why his lawyer was changed at the last minute. Second guy later had a car accident that put him under. That's one hell of a fucking coincidence. But everyone I have told in my real life just brushes it off...

SPOILERS: Chris describes each night in hell as reliving your death, and in Tony’s last scene, we see him watching himself from the front of the restaurant… Subtle, but I think the last scene is Tony’s hell, just as Chris described it.

It's funny, you don't know if Paulie is a fool or a holy fool. Because technically 6 thousand years is nothing next to eternity....And it is written in Scripture that those who are blind are not guilty...

They shoulda did a Sopranos/ Supernatural crossover. Chris asks "What's Purgatory?" & Castiel says "Every soul here is a monster. This is where they prey upon each other for eternity". Then here comes a few Leviathans smh lol
