Australian Senator Pauline Hanson criticizes the Albanese government's decision to allocate $600 million to Papua New Guinea (PNG) for a new National Rugby League (NRL) team. This is in addition to the annual foreign aid and loans provided to PNG. She suggests these funds could be better utilized for health care and rehabilitation services in regional Queensland.
As PNG approaches its 50th Independence anniversary, she calls for a reassessment of Australia-PNG relations. She expresses outrage over the purchase of Maseratis and Bentleys for the APEC Leader Summit. She questions the need for a PNG-based team in the NRL and raises concerns about PNG's governance abilities to tackle corruption.

The value system of PNG government is defective . Keep that money to manage your own affairs .Vultures are gathering here to feast once this opportunity is successful. PNG NRL can't make PNG a successful nation. Giving PNG a team to compete in NRL as a 50 year anniversary gift by Australia is not an economic development. Your hard earn tax payers money will be put to wrong priorities.

Corrupt PNG Government. Therefore, the PNG Government should be aware of this Australian's comments and stand up and do better for this Nation. Senator, that money was given by the government of Australia to PNG to support its bid into the NRL. Australian aids help to strengthen the friendly relationship between PNG and Australia. If you don't want to give to PNG then fine, we have China. We can ask them to help us. And don't complain if the PNG government gives the green light to china to build that multimillion kina military airport in Gulf. Your money and your assistances to PNG is what is strengthening our relationship and is keeping PNG from opening up to China and your PM knows this.

PNG doesn't need team, coz we do not have a development club to feed the proposed team. Also, PNG players lack fitness endurance. PNG has low health indicators and poor management compared to our Pacific islands. Our poor people need quality eccessble health and education services. PM needs to have tears all the time over his people live in a poverty life.❤❤❤. Support you, Pauline.

To all you henson supporters, please bear in mind that australian companies have been benefiting and reaping from png for over 60 years and even before independence . Most multinationals in all sectors are australians and they have been sending their profits to shareholders in australia and overseas. This PNG NRL bid is only for Geo Political reasons that Australia is persuing do not be fooled. The least Australia should do is invest in the manufacturing sector for job creation in PNG. THAT IS WHAT IS NEEDED. On this note let me thank australia for your budget support over the years but i think it is time now to support direct job creation initiatives . Regards

The Australian people in general could be right as their tax payers' money should be used for their own people who sleeps outside the public places...on the street should be housed. And it is of course their aids monies sent here purposely for the projects are coordinated by their own experts as they always regarded PNG public servants and MPs alike as corrupt... BUT as for the rugby league which PNG is progressing should be given thump up coz other Pacific countries who plays in NRL games were never there to help Australian Soldiers in the second world war...And they are more advance than us because you (Australians) did very little at the first place. And why Australians are not serious about PNG straight after the war in terms of sports development programs. I'd like to commend the former Australian PM, Hon Kevin Rudd and of course the current Australian Prime Minister for their thoughtfulness. The Hon. Pauline Henson should accept the fact that, Australia is not only the answer to what the country like PNG should benefit from. We can look elsewhere for aid just like the Solomon Islanders who were supported by the Chinese government for that matter. As a former rugby league development officer (schoolboys league) and the administrator with the PNGRFL before... my over view of how training given to the PNG coaches and the trainers is just one of thing... Why we are not allowed to attend courses in Australia instead of your own facilitators comes and train a small group of people who are mainly the relatives and the friends of so called leaders. Thank you

Yes, Pauline is right! I hope our politicians don't go on their knees begging for assistants. If the monies given are gestures of goodwill based on cultural and political bondages based on common understandings and past political histories between the two countries, I bet Pauline Hansen needs to dig her head deep in her research to get her perspectives right. Peace be upon her.

I am a Papua New Guinean and I concur with Pauline 1000%. PNG was, is and will continue to be a dependent of Australia despite it being an independent country in the last 50yrs. PNG is a developing country and DOES NOT NEED SPORTS, period. Developed nations such as Australia, US and Europe can afford to enjoy such luxuries as sports or the B-symphony but not developing nations like PNG. We just don't have the time or can not even afford to put our feet up and enjoy sports, while that time and money, could be spent on developing our country to the standards of our international friends in Aussie, US and Europe. There is absolutely NO NEED for a sports Minister in PNG! At 50yrs old we just can't afford to play sports, personal fitness is OK but NOT competitive sports, at least not right now - maybe in the next 50yrs when we are better off, right now we are not! we still have a a long way to go in terms of development and yet here we are playing wannabes in the international arena. I also agree with a lot of comments here, we should just become a state of Australia, that way it would make sense to enter a team into the Australian NRL coz right now entering a team into NRL is like Australia trying to enter a Australian team into PNG NRLC and have the PNG government to fund that exercise. Olo boi, mak blo long2 stap na ol lidas blo umi (na Aussie tu) abrusim mak blo long2, olsem na ol sa tok, long2 lo skel.

Em now where's the accountability every country is doing it tough especially Australia it's enough thinking that every year you'll continue to beg Australia for loans it should be given in good reasons like assisting Security to toughen up both borders, cracking down on illegal fishing in both waters and the Pacific against Invaders, toughen up Customs on drug trafficking and more, Natural Disasters that's affecting livlihoods those are homeless, those whose property are destroyed, schools facilities, hospitals and the list goes we in a global crisis don't take it for granted just for a lousy sport that gives nothing but entertainment, fights and vice versa. Pauline Hanson good on ya . That's why we need more ladies in Parliament like her. Money that is given isn't wrong but it should be prioritize and used with accountability and audit to where's all that money gone too in the ground we never seen this money gone to work now the marabe government are threating to run to china for aid, sorry turu wanem time Bai u sanap lon 2pla leg blo u yet

RECENTLY NOW THERE IS THIS CONTROVERSY ABOUT UNNECESSARY FUNDING TO PEOPLE THAT NEVER ATTENDED OR PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT EVEN OFFICIALS YET WENT AND TO TOP IT ALL UP HAD HIS DAUGHTER SPEAK?? . DEFINITELY SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT, DRASTIC MEASURES NEEDS TO BE TAKEN.. SEEMS PRIME MINISTERS AND RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENTS CREATED TO SAFEGUARD THE INTEGRITY OR UPHOLD PROCESSES OF LAW ARE ALL COMPROMISED. LAWS ARE BEING AMMENDED TO SUIT OURSELVES.. PNG will invite China to start a military base here as we are a sovereign nation. PNG will convert to Islam religion if Senator Hanson wants PNG to look to the north. The door is open and the temptation is greater. Leave sports alone as PNG kin to go into NRL bit and talk about development aid. Come with your money to build roads, bridges ,schools and hospitals. PNG wants infrastructure and not cash. Can Australia change the concept of cash hand out to PNG to above mentioned concept.? Given cash it does not work so purchase materials and come with skill labour build good infrastructure for us to avoid corruption.

Pauline Hanson, Papua New Guinea was very useful in the Development of Australia as LABOURERS because PNG was uncivilized to develop it's Nation and with your kindness we are developing now. Our gold was taken without permission and our oil is still flowing to Australia as I'm texting, they say. PNG IS THE TREASURE ISLAND TO AUSTRALIA AND YOUR TALKING SHARP LIKE A NAGGING WIFE IN THE POLITICAL ARIANA IS VERY EMBARRASSING. YOU HAVE TO BE A TRUE AUSTRALIAN TO UNDERSTAND YOUR SMALL ISLAND NATIONS , NEIGHBORS AND BE A BIG SISTER TO THEM. ONLY THE TRUE AUSTRALIANS KNOWS PNG AND WHO PNG WAS AND IS TO AUSTRALIA. After ALL, Australia and Papua New Guinea are FRIENDS and we will always be. God bless the Prime Minister of Australia and Papua New Guinea. Amen. Australia left the shores of PNG as a colonier in 1975 without any development and that was the truth. PNG built itself. Why cant you be like the Great British who did develop Hong Kong than and gave it back to China. She is of single and narrow minded person not having intellectual understand of regional economic and political treats. Well I think PNG will be better of with China then Australia and let China build its massive Naval Base in Western part of PNG and head the missiles directly at Australia. How would that sound for youPaulin?
