Looking back, I regret didn't have this call in my teens. I'm 60 now and the ship has long sailed. Fathers please tell me how can I find this "balance" in the earthly life? Please pray for me Fathers.
@anirudhvyas606924 күн бұрын
No ship ever sails. The call did not come because you were working towards this comment on youtube. Love and its fire calls you to dispel your doubts and start the moment you read this comment - start where you think its wise to start. The Aridities of life burns our foibles so we may enkindle with love of God. He loves us and never stops - we think he doesn’t call us - we just weren’t ready or aren’t - when we stay at the door long enough it opens. And to think that you have arrived you most certainly have not. Peace and love to you my friend. Go in love.

So so beautiful, I'm just back from spiritual retreat in Glencairn Abbey, Ireland and discerning a vocation with the cistercian sisters there and just can't wait to revisit, God is calling me to this life, and yes St. Augustine was so right that we are restless unless our souls are at one with God. @@tonygarrett7214 Though prayer and devotion, slowly your discernment gets clearer and clearer as you ask for His Grace. Im also praying the Novena for Saint Benedict, and it's helping me tremendously to see what's God's will for me, my will of course, like any other man, is to raise a family, but His will may not be. Of course i'm not 100% sure yet, that's why i'll be visiting an abbey for a retreat and have direct contact with religious life, there i'll do a vocational journey of experience and also prayer for discernment, all while having the help of a vocational director. Also have in mind that it's not something that easy to explain, it's a calling to your soul, something that you just know it was always there, somehow... Very hard to describe tbh. God bless you brother
@credimus61764 жыл бұрын
@@tonygarrett7214 The fact is that you cannot find out yourself, and if a person is a "see to believe" kind, it will probably be very hard to discern. It's only possible through His Grace, because He has His own ways and time to make His will come true. If you wait for an angel to come from Heaven and tell you what God wants from you, it will never happen because you're trying to test God, and not sincerely willing to know His Truth. For someone who wants to discern vocation, it'll happen when he honestly ask God to show him, with an open heart to commit to his Will as soon as God shows, not "testing" Him like the pharisee or Herod Antipas.

Well said my friend, well said. What appears is not an angel but what you discover in your heart. Discernment is a journey which may lead you to this life or lead you to another. Grace will bring you there and wherever it goes is good as you are earnestly looking where you best belong for goodness in your life. A silent prayer wishes you the best.

Years ago before I went into the seminary I had an opportunity to talk with Merton’s spiritual director “Timmy”. Then and now it wasn’t what he said that struck me it was the sound of his voice. There was so much love in that little man. The experience of being in that monastery with these holy men is perhaps the most meaningful and powerful of my life.

Your comment although it may reflect some mindset shows your scientist training to step back, observe, reflect on this social and religious phenomenon you just encountered. Good for you. Often in the world we measure by production, worth, efficiency and gain, The world of a monk steps away from most of that as their focus is prayer and work to support themselves and each other. However the world has to creep into their egg production as you saw. Since this video was made they have ceased egg production (sadly) and converted to growing mushrooms. Also some of these gentlemen have passed away and certain roles have changed. This reflects life as it must but delving into the world of contemplation is a journey which will yield you some interesting developments. Try reading some of Thomas Merton or Kathleen Norris. Something else to remember is that some ancient monks were scientists of sorts for different fields and also were preservers of books of knowledge. This Monastary has a wonderful library. I wish you a happy journey.

@@tonygarrett7214 Interesting comment Tony, and so it would appear to most of us busy with life and responsibilities. I have spent time in three monasteries including Thomas Merton’s at Gethsemani. There is much they never “escape” as you say. I would say they never “leave” certain aspects of life. They still struggle with relationships within their community. They struggle with having giving up having a family, a wife, the social activities that all brings and just being able to have the free behavior that we have on the outside world so to speak. However, often these are struggles that pass like the aches and pain of beginning long trail hikes. Sometimes they never leave them like a sore knee you always had but tolerate as you venture on. Their goal is to become closer to God through contemplation and work. Some stay their whole life, some a short or long time. I have known Monks who constantly bristled at the rules and others who did well with it. I worked with one who was actually a priest who left completely. We did not discuss his leaving but I saw the unhappiness of the struggle. It is not for everyone but be glad that it is for those who are happy there. They pray daily for you and me. Do a retreat some place and some reading if you will. The appreciation of monastic life will at least change you in a positive way. Also check out the film “Into Great Silence”. Your questions and observations are good. You are thinking critically. It’s a good step to understanding if there is sincerity which I believe you are.

To be honest at the point in humanity in which we realized that we could contemplate our spirituality should have been about the time we realized our ability to create Heaven on Earth.
