The truck continues to go back together and another step closer to being road-worthy. In this video, I re-installed the stock steering column and install an aftermarket cable shift linkage from Lokar. I also run into issues when I start bleeding the brake system.
Parts Used:
Lokar Column Shift Linkage: amzn.to/3iXlR8K
Dorman Mast Cylinder Bleeder Kit: amzn.to/32U3xaO
Crescent 3pc. SAE Flare Nut Wrenches: amzn.to/2ROINuL

I have a 67 and am about to get started on my rebuild. Been following your build from the beginning and it’s been very inspiring. Not sure yet if I’ll short box it, but everything else is very close to my plans. Appreciate your time in sharing this.

By far one of my favorite KZbin channels out there. I've used a lot of your methods on my 67 C-10. I've also got a 1-year-old so I know the struggle of having to come out to the shop after the baby goes down for the night! Would love to send you some pictures of my build via email if possible.

First of all, looking good man keep up the good work 👍. I noticed your using the slip clamps to hold your exhaust to headers. Just a note, those are known to move over time and cause leaks or come apart so keep an eye on those. If you end up redoing it at some point go with v-band clamps they work great.

At 14? There are a number of things you can do with little money. Find a correct year wiring diagram on the Internet. I have a 67 C10, and if reusing the glass fuse type box, it splits at the firewall. It can be the source of many head aches. The factory has a 50 year version of sealant on the male & female terminals. An old tooth brush & acetone will clean up nice. Home improvement stores in the auto section, sell dielectric grease. Use this on the terminals, take lots of photos before and during disassembly. Use zip bags to keep parts for one item, like a fender. Make sure grounds run from the back of the alternator to the battery, cab, frame, core support, bed and engine. You can get a box of 5/16” & 3/8” internal star washers for mounting eyelets. They have twisted edges that dig into metal and help make the connection. Learn to solder connections and shrink tubing. A can of paste rosin flux. This cleans copper to solder and in-solder a previous repair. Use a 180 grit sandpaper on the copper fuse clip in the fuse box. Wrap around the old tooth brush and the stop lamp fuse has a lot going on with it, so clean good. Best of luck! Retired ASE Master

I haven't had the greatest luck with Lokar products especially for the 4L60e so I am curious how this linkage performed since it's now been a while? beautiful build by the way, glad I found it

It’s a little finicky. There was a bit more play in it than I would have liked but that’s what you get with the cable versus the solid rod. It felt fine pulling it into gear but didn’t love when it had to push out of gear.

Nice job, videos are very nicely done. I like the shift linkage cable idea. I hadn't thought of it because I didn't know it existed. It gets the linkage out of the proximity of the exhaust. Typical poor parts construction. It could have been made to fit better and used the existing holes. Typical aftermarket universal crap IMHO. Glad the carbide drill worked out. How did the column indicator line up with the transmission detents. I see there is some room to change the ratio depending on which holes are used. Do you have the indicator for the 4L60E installed on the column? I missed the exhaust install, which headers did you use? I have the China SS shorties, welds are perfect. Stainless is really thin. Wish I had gone long tubes and may still change my mind. I made a 4" hole in the cross member and purchased a cross-member that allows for the exhaust to be higher in the frame. Will have to see how that works with the stock shift linkage. Doesn't look promising. Without doing any research, I would have suspected the SS brake line flare as the leak culprit. Carry on and keep sharing.
