Your welcome, it's no different to turning a square piece of wood, just thinking about how and where you offset it.

Good narrative that explains off centre and the beginnings of multi axis turning well. Indeed it is so clear that I'm tempted to go take a look at your other episodes!

Thank you Ray. I like to do different things all the time as it's a way of learning and being able to make what you want when you need it.

Thank you Pete. It’s quite surprising how many people are scared of this sort of thing but happy to turn a square piece of wood.

Thank you Mike. Hopefully shows in a simple way of how you did that goblet with the extremes in the stem.

Have never tried off centre turning but this video really helped me with the basic of this style of turning. Many thanks.

Your welcome. Doing something like this for the first time is quite daunting. Treat it more like a square blank and it’s not so frightening.

Thank you Keith. It's quite easy just take your time and treat each cut like you would when you true up a square blank.

Thank you,Paul for another excellent video. I'm an average hobby turner and I haven't yet ventured into off centre work but I'm keen to give it a go.

Thank you Alan. Something you must try. The next video will show something less so extreme with the off centre turning.

Hi Paul, I have done some off centre turning using the same method and more extreme as in points 1 - 3 and 2 - 4 you get some strange angled steps
@PaulLockwood
@PaulLockwood 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Douglas. Yes this was to show the real extreme of the whole wood coming at you all off centre. It's only limit is the imagination.

Thank you for a great explanation for off center work. You are very understanding in how to get started. Question, at what speed is recommended for this size of project? Again thanks.
@PaulLockwood
@PaulLockwood 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jon. Speed is what is safe with not having the work fly off and the lathe rattle away. I rarely turn much above 1200ish even on small items as the skill is in light cuts with the tool for a good finish. Doing off center you need a reasonable speed as it cuts out the feeling of cutting out so much air.

wouldnt putting it in at 1 and 3 to offset it create more of a natural bend as you chip away?
@PaulLockwood
@PaulLockwood 3 жыл бұрын
Yes of course you can move these about as you like. The main point of this was to show the extremes and how easy it is to turn. Nothing to be afraid of as it's no different to starting off with a square piece of wood with all the air.

Unfortunately, off centre turning is what I do most of the time....:) :) Must get one of those self centreing chucks :) :)
