@@paulmarles Thank you for creating this useful content! I love your videos. I recently started my KDP adventure thanks to you. Looking for advice - I can't stick to / find cohesiveness in my designs as I get inspired and jump to creating. This leaves me with wide variety of styles and my work looks like it comes from at least 5 different individuals. Minimalistic, Goth, Kawaii, Vintage I got it all. I appreciate any inside you might have for me. I haven't created an author page because I assume people will be confused by the wide variety. Should I pick a genre and try to stick with it. In case you are able to answer me - and need a visual ( Paper People Publishing )
@Mo-vo4vo2 жыл бұрын
@@antoniatodinov980 You definitely don't have to stick with one genre. You can create different pen names around the genres you do and create a brand around each. Dont do too much though. When creating these, think about the classifications - the user, and the purpose. Because it can be overwhelming, and they can overlap. So the brand u use for a particular book should be for the dominant group. For example colouring books - u can have a brand for horror colouring books that has books for both kids and adults or you can have a kids brand which features horror. Which is more dominant? Thats up to u. Also, u can create a social media following around these individual genres. One young woman also created an Amazon author central page, but when she wanted to give out her page url to friends and family, it was hard to remember. So she created a domain name and pionted that/each domain name(s) to her Author page(s). The domain was easier to remember. Long comment, I know, but good luck.

Hi Paul, thanks for another useful and insightful video. I have a question around the subject. I’ve gotten myself in a bit of a muddle already I think. I have two ‘brand names’ (only 8 books) and one is simple to remember, whereas the other includes a fancy Latin word that I’ve realised is quite hard for people to remember! I’m a teacher and am making niche books for teachers as well as educational books for adults and children. I love the idea of building a brand (have tried and failed at a few different things before so have logos etc) but should I keep the two/ three niches separate? My feeling is that I’d like them all under one name but I’d value your thoughts before I go and unpublished half my books and have to re-create them!
@paulmarles4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s better just to go with one brand name and put all your books under that.

Hi Paul,I have a question about metadata policy: They said "we can't accept the following :Keywords, search phrases, genre descriptors, advertisements, promotions, physical properties (e.g., trim size) in the title, contributor, subtitle, or series fields."but in your tutorials you recommand to put the main keywords in title and subtitle.Isn't that against kdp policy ?I'm really confused

Don’t put any old keyword in. Make it look and sound natural.

Would Amazon consider ‘Twig & Moth’ as using keywords in the author name, and could they end up saying that it’s against their terms of service? 9:40 It’s nice to have an interesting author name, but at the same time, it’s also very important to choose a safe author name that won’t cause any issues with Amazon later on. I’m trying to figure out what’s considered a safe author name on Amazon, for those of us who want to use a brand name for our books, instead of a person’s name.
@paulmarles2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think they would consider Twig & Moth an author name although it is the brand name of a publisher already on Amazon so I wouldn't use that.

I have multiple themes in mind to try to test out. Is there a good way to have multiple lines of books and be able to build a brand for each one so I can see which ones take off? Would it be best to have one over arching publishing name with different author names for the different niche? For example, I don't want my workbooks for kids to be under the same thing as my sketchbooks with more mature designs. I don't think Amazon allows multiple KDP accounts for the same person unless I go set up a business so I can have a separate tax number to use.
@paulmarles3 жыл бұрын
You would have to group them under different author names.

Boat life looks awesome. I’m basically doing all that the illustrator you are showing does, ( and more actually!) as I am an illustrator and own a niche brand. I’m new to kdp, and one issue though I’m having is if I link from my site to my kdp listings then I’m directing customers off my site. I m fine with linking individual posts off Instagram, Pinterest etc to amazon pages, but feel like with my site I have to decide what’s most important to sell, either the items listed on the site, or redirect to amazon. Do you have any input? Thanks.
@SylverZone4 жыл бұрын
If you use your Amazon affiliate links from your site for your books you will also get commission so worth it in my opinion.
@P-Funk694 жыл бұрын
@@SylverZone good point! its just that I sell lots of different items, and some are wayyyyy more profit than a KDP book plus commission, ie i sell apparel, jewelry etc. i will consider it.
@P-Funk694 жыл бұрын
@@SylverZoneMy other sticking point with redirecting off my site is that isnt the point of having a site vs being on a marketplace to keep them on your site? If I redirect to Amazon, people can get distracted and then also buy "suggested items". It's the whole reason I built a site, and not just selling only on Etsy anymore. I have many customers that buy multiple items in one order, so I'm concerned that would go away if they jump off my site. But I do feel thats as I build a library of KDP I need to point to them somehow, though maybe a separate landing page is better than a full integration into the inventory of the site. Do you have experience there?
@SylverZone4 жыл бұрын
P-Funk I tend to redirect to my author page which in turn can direct back to my website. Backlinks count for something there I feel. Likewise with my Etsy shop. Another guy I follow (Rob Cubbon) promotes building a good web presence all round which I lean towards. Tho I’m rubbish at maintaining a proper regime with it all! :-/
