Introduction to Amazon Ads Video: • Amazon Ads for KDP Aut...
Gumroad Shop for Keywords and Interiors: paulmarles.gumroad.com
One of the best ways to increase your KDP book sales and make more money online with Amazon is by creating Amazon Ads for your books. It can seem quite complicated and daunting at first to create your own ads and there is always the worry and risk of spending too much money on advertising. In this video I walk you through, as you watch over my shoulder, how to create your first advertising campaign for you books.
Two great books on Amazon Ads:

For the benefit of anyone who might be viewing this in 2022 - there is one piece of info in the video that I believe has changed since it was released. Around 6:20 Paul states that, with the dynamic bids up & down, you don't have any control over how high Amazon can go with the bid. He says you could bid $0.20 and wake to find that they've bid $1 on your behalf. The dynamic "up" bid is now limited to 100% increase (double your set bid). In other words, if you bid $0.20, the most Amazon will charge you is $0.40. Paul, thanks so much for breaking this down. Ads have been one of the most difficult parts of KDP for me so hearing from someone who's used them successfully is really helpful.

Thank you so much for these great videos! I love the way you explain everything! I realized how many mistakes I’ve made, so I think I’ll pause my ads now and wait as you suggested for 3 months. And then maybe will start with manual targeting instead of auto. Will collect keywords meanwhile. One of my auto ads went crazy with thousands of impressions, 62 clicks and only 1 sale. I looked at that mess, paused it and went to watch your videos 😂 now I’ll go and pause the rest of them 🙈

Thanks Paul! Great info. I followed along and launched my first book ad. Just and fyi: I also have an amazon marketplace account. I had to switch accounts in the ad manager when I launched this because when I tried it the way you showed amazon defaulted to my marketplace account and not my kdp account. It took me a few minutes to figure it out, but once I switched I could follow your directions. In other words, when I clicked on the book I wanted to run it did not show up in the ad to promote box. I had to go to the top of the page and switch accounts and then search for the book I wanted to promote. (sorry if that was confusing) But thanks so much because your directions were great. Joanne

Hi Paul, great vid, just watched this and the previous one and very informative and well explained so thank you. So , for how long do you run the ads for timewise, is it when its had for ex 10 clicks but no sales as you say then you shut off the add. BUt those 10 clicks can be in a day right? So there is not a time limit to let it run for weeks or a month. Hope that made sense
@paulmarles
@paulmarles 2 жыл бұрын
I normally try and aim for 10 clicks and try to be disciplined about it as I often let them run longer 'just to see'! It's usually no the whole ad that I switch off but the individual keywords or, if it's an auto ad, I will put that keyword in the negative targeting list.

PAUL - I followed your guidance and have already sold almost $90 worth of low content books using Amazon Ads!! (yay!) BUT I HAVE AN ISSUE!! how do I find my Amazon Ad royalties? How often will I be paid out? Is it the same as KDP (no ads)?
@paulmarles
@paulmarles 2 жыл бұрын
It's the same as KDP. Sales are just counted as normal through the KDP platform.

My product is prohibited from ad campaigns because of profanity on my product. But I do see other sellers getting away with it. Did they simply slip through the cracks? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Just created my first ad, and submitted it for review. How long would you advise someone to run an ad for?
@paulmarles
@paulmarles 2 жыл бұрын
Run it as long as it’s profitable and/or you get a high organic ranking without the ads running. Stop if it’s non profitable.

You're bid amount is probably too low. If you;re bid amount is too low your ad won't get shown on the front pages.

Do you think that we can make sales on amazon without using ADS? because I am working on it for more than 2 months constantly but I don't get great results

Absolutely you can.

You maybe need to spend more time researching the best keywords, descriptions and titles. It helps to do some social media promotions (free) too, to encourage people to look and hopefully buy. I’ve been at it for four months and am making sales, but slowly. It is a long term business and a numbers game. I’m sure Paul will agree :-)

So, new KDPer.. three days into three separate ad campaigns, three different niches, 5 books each. So far, over 8000 impressions and almost $8 spent, no sales showing. One ad group is garnering almost 80-90% of the clicks. Should I pause the others and concentrate on the one getting the most clicks or stick it out a bit more as is?
@paulmarles
@paulmarles 3 жыл бұрын
3 days is very early to get any meaningful information. You need to look at the keywords, analyse which ones are working and are relevant. Put keywords and products that aren’t relevant into the negative targeting section. 8000 impressions at 1% click through rate is 80 clicks. At 10% conversion thats 8 book sales. You’re not far off that. Monitor your ACOS for underperforming ads.

@@paulmarles Thanks much! I made one sale with a 13% ACOS but that was over shadowed by all the other clicks that didn't result in sales so no profit. I'll take a closer look at what I'm doing!

An ad can be profitable after spending 20 cents. You’ll have to be more specific what you mean. You don’t pay out money and then wait for income to come in.
