It never ceases to amaze me how you always see the crowds shouting in support of totalitarianism. This gift of hindsight ought to serve as a lesson to us all! Remember, the cost of freedom is eternal vigilance.

wow, i’m just looking at comments of people with great knowledge of history and i’m here trying to find out a concise summary of what totalitarianism is for my history project bc i don’t have the energy to pay attention in class

Not sure if you still need it. But democracy believers believe that Each leader is different and democracy gives people more freedom. Authoritarians believe in getting stuff done and know that the real leaders are hidden

That's the psychologically narrowed down explanation. Sociologically, those that prevent history from being taught and discourage/prevent citizens from studying history want to repeat the history obscured.

Hitler didn't get rid of the brownshirts as the speaker said. He did get rid of Ernst Roehm, the original leader of the SA (brownshirts) at the Night of the Long Knives, and he replaced him with another individual. The SS, originally part of the SA, assisted with the purge, and became an independent organization.

Actually, Lenin repeatedly said that New Economic Policy was just a temporary state to get the economy back on track and after that, he wanted to restore a fully communist society and collectivization of the goods, party's control, governmental interventions, etc. Let's not pretend that Lenin was a Saint that wanted a free market in the USSR. Also, I don't really understand what you mean by saying that Stalin created the USSR that was created in 1922, two years before Lenin's death

Mussolini used the term “totalitarian” to refer to his own fascist state, embracing the label and using it in a way that highlighted the fascist view of the state. However, fascist Italy was really not thoroughly totalitarian, as Hannah Arendt points out. The Fascists really didn’t control the private lives of its citizens, and the regime was nothing like the brutal regimes of Hitler and Stalin. The regime of the Italian fascists was basically just an imperialist, ultranationalist one, albeit with an interesting, Hegelian philosophical conception of the state.

The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshiped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology which fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man... that state is obsolete. A case to be filed under "M" for "Mankind" - in The Twilight Zone.

Superficial and not very good - doesn't seek to explore the actual causes behind totalitarianism in the European context - as well as the poor pronunciation, "Aydolf" being one example. Could do better.

Totalitarianism gets a bad rap. Actually, totalitarianism is not a bad thing. The collective has primacy over the individual. Always has. Always will.
@mrkz69420
@mrkz69420 7 жыл бұрын
Except most forms of totalitarianism aren't based on an authentic collective -- rather, most totalitarian states have been run by a single individual, or a tiny group of them. They typically fail to assess and tend to the needs of the people. That's not true collectivism. But as you say, the collective *should* come before the individual. Only problem is that totalitarianism will never be compatible with that principle, because it's always established to benefit the individuals in power.
@IndustrialMilitia
@IndustrialMilitia 7 жыл бұрын
Μάρκος Ντονελής Totalitarianism usually follows a vertical form of collectivism where those at the top are given priority to those at the bottom. The horizontal Commietopia collectivism that people talk about really doesn't exist.
