AMD GPUs are so good but nobody is buying them. I upgraded three months ago from an RX 6600 to an RX 6750 XT and it is amazing. Nvidia has better features such as DLSS and ray tracing but are way too expensive. I just don't understand why people go for RTX 4060, it has worse rasterization and it is useless for ray tracing at 1080p.

Because reality is, Nvidia cards are better. Not for value or power consumption etc, but in raw power and convenience and more importantly compatibility. The overwhelming amount of PC games are made with Nvidia in mind. What's interesting though is AMD's performance on console ports, as consoles are AMD-focused. So do the ports on PC run better on AMD or Nvidia. And devs are lazier and lazier, hence the ever-increasing demand on higher specs for new games. Unreal Engine 5 for example is absurdly hungry and a lot of devs are building on it now. STALKER 2 will barely hit 85 FPS at max settings on a 4090 at frigging 1080p without DLSS 3.0. That's insanely bad, but it's built on Unreal Engine 5.0.

it's dlss. it's still far superior to the amd alternative and it can make a game look better than with native resolution. also in terms of overclocking and undervolting, and i don't know if this has been improved since about a year ago, but i bought a 6700xt and tested some undervolting. with unstable settings, in completely resets the entire driver. with nvidia you just get a crash to desktop. also power consumption in non gaming related scenarios. amd gpus still use quite a bit of power when you're watching a youtube video and when you spend more time on the internet instead of gaming, you may want a more power efficient solution. but i feel like amd is closing in and in a couple generations it'll be a true alternative.

@@Dynasty1818 The 7900XTX beats the 4080 Super in a majority of games, and it's $150 less. It's definitively the more powerful card in pure rasterization. If you like DLSS and Raytracing, though, you'd be forced to go 4080/4080 Super.

The sweet spot, IMO, is either the 7800XT and the 7900GRE. I had a hell of an inner debate earlier this year when I was building Edna and the 7900GRE won out because Sapphire had a white one in stock for just a little more. Hell, Eizen is still rocking an RX 6600 and it's still a solid GPU, but there's better options out there for $350 - $400 ...

Does resolution recommendations I’m more of a rule of thumb to get you in the ballpark, but they really don’t serve any purpose than that. It all depends on what programs or games you’re planning on running, what frame rate you would like to achieve in the quality settings You’re using. All of that is compounded by the infinite number of CPU/GPU combinations one could have I can take a high-end graphics card and make it the bottleneck if I target low quality settings at 7:20 P I can make high-end CTU the bottle neck by playing at 4K with all the bells and whistles. Even though that’s not a perfect analogy because it depends on title and what sort of environment variables it’s trying to load. The only thing actionable that you can do is try to find testing with something comparable to the set up. You’re planning on running or look at a whole bunch of charts to get you in the ballpark.

You didn't recommend 3060 at all. It has 12GB VRAM. May I know why? Also no 7600XT with 16GB VRAM IIRC.
@MrChriss000
@MrChriss000 5 сағат бұрын
The 3060 was a bit weak for the money in raster AND ray tracing. It was not strong enough to need 12Gb. Jensen put 12Gb on it just to make it seem worth the price. Basically it is 5% faster than a 6600, 8% slower than a 6600xt , 17% slower than the 6650 xt. This is budget user class. Today a used 3060 12Gb is about the price of a new rx 6650xt or used 6700xt (12Gb). A similar argument exists with the 7600 16Gb, in the U.K. it is £300 nib but so is a new 6750xt 12Gb. So at the budget price class those 2 cards are a bit 'un balanced' . Not the best tech deals as in the video title.

4080 Super is going to be considered a deal once Nvidia releases its replacement. They’re absolutely not going to let the 1080 TI ever happen again and so far they’ve been able to rebrand cards getting higher than expected backlash while simultaneously hitting that balance point between demand and availability, which ensures prices only go up. This will be compounded by Intel contemplating abandoning dedicated graphics and AMD already surrendering high end and enthusiast classes.

I honestly think the 4070 Super is absolutely not bad at it's price point. Sure, the 4070 ti Super is great, but very expensive too. If you have buckets of money it's not a bad card card, but not everyone has (or is prepared) to fork out that much money for a graphic card. I think the 470 Super is just in the sweet spot. That said. If you are prepared to wait a little, it's possible that the new 50 series give a better deal. Knowing Nvidia, however, I would not get hopes up too high in the department.

@XiONDiGiTaL

Depends on your budget honestly. As far as the AM4 socket, the 5800x3D is sold out so the only worthwhile AM4 choices would be the 5700x3D or a 5900x. If you go AM5 you have more options at various price points (7600x,7800x3D, 9600x, 9800x3D,.etc) but you'll have to buy a new motherboard and ddr5 ram. As for GPU, your current 3900x would perform fine with an RX 7800xt on a 1440p resolution monitor, though if you're on 1080p you will face a CPU bottleneck. That said, the 7800XT is suitable for those other processors I mentioned as well. If you're on 4k resolution, the RX 7900XT is a good option. If you want Nvidia though, avoid the 4060 as it only has 12gb vram. The 4070 Ti Super and the 4080 are also good but Nvidia tripping with their prices and the 5000 series is coming soon. Preferably, you'll want to find a card with atleast 16gb vram to potentially last you another 5+ years before a future upgrade and has a price that fits your budget. Edit: You can use a site like pcpartpicker to plan your upgrade by matching different parts and checking their prices. If you need help with anything else, feel free to hit me up. Best of luck fam 🤝🏽

@@ernstt1616 Nah just playing mate. The 7990xt is a great card and it's crazy how it has 20gb of RAM, Nvidia's comparison cards have less RAM so handle 4K worse by a massive margin. Only way Nvidia wins is when DLSS is turned on, THEN it matches the 7900XT's performance when it's NOT using FRS, so AMD wins big time for a similar price to, say, a 3080. Only issue is AMD's drivers are always worse than Nvidia's, and most games are made with Nvidia in mind so AMD cards get shafted on some games, and destroy Nvidia on others. Same the other way around though so...depends what you play and your resolution target ie monitor you use.

That being said, they gave me essentially an unlimmited budget so I just got them a 4090, particularly because it's amount of VRAM which is good for AI stuff.

got the 3060 12gb used like new on amazon for $200, its awesome, huge upgrade for me. use my pc on my 4k 50in 60hz tv, so as long as i'm getting my 60 fps thats all that matters. the card can play slightly older titles at 4k fine, everything i can throw at it in 1440p high/epic and 1080p maxed of course. dont use ray tracing or frame gen so dont care lol, only use dlss if its quality but not at all is best. i highly recommend as best budget used card right now. when the 60 series comes out ill get a 40 series card. its just not worth it to spend a lot more for a slight bump in anything to play the same games. keep it 💯. ✌

Absolutely shameful that a consumer has to shell out $800 for an Nvidia GPU with 16GB. If they can throw 16GB on something as useless as the 4060, they could have done so with the 4070 or 4070S.

5000 series is not worth it till after 6000 comes out, been through that before too, for about half a decade if not longer. Well, they fool plenty of people with some refresh, of course, but those can just be another form of "newer out means newer-1 is way more affordable".

Ignoring the fact that I'd generally avoid buying anything this close to the launch of new stuff... I would probably avoid the 4070 Ti, unless you can get a really good deal on one. It's not that much more powerful than the 4070 Super and it "only" has 12 GB of VRAM - might as well grab the 4070 Ti Super if you're after an Nvidia card in this price/performance-range. That said: I still think that Ti Super too is a little overpriced for what it offers and you'll *probably* get something with 16 GB and better performance for less money from Team Green, come January/February 2025. I'm on a 4070 Super and, in my games and at 1440p at least, its 12 GB have been more than enough. Only reason why I was also eyeing the Ti Super was VR, but I decided to simply wait until early 2025 in the hopes of then being able to get 4080/4090 levels of performance for 4070 Ti/Super money ... :)

I don't understand, is society really that stupid? The best GPU is 4090 and then 4080, no matter how much they cost, they are the best. Everything else is a game of compromise. But again, the compromise must be reasonable. If there is no money for the best, then you need to select a video card for specific tasks (games), monitor resolution, technology, and again, the price of the video card is secondary.
