Before you start buying used video cards, watch a video about how RTX3080s and other video cards are repaired. Sometimes they're only operating at 8X bandwidth because the traces couldn't be repaired, something with the memory chips, or the CPU resolder didn't go well.

AMD GPUs are so good but nobody is buying them. I upgraded three months ago from an RX 6600 to an RX 6750 XT and it is amazing. Nvidia has better features such as DLSS and ray tracing but are way too expensive. I just don't understand why people go for RTX 4060, it has worse rasterization and it is useless for ray tracing at 1080p.
@Dynasty1818Ай бұрын
Because reality is, Nvidia cards are better. Not for value or power consumption etc, but in raw power and convenience and more importantly compatibility. The overwhelming amount of PC games are made with Nvidia in mind. What's interesting though is AMD's performance on console ports, as consoles are AMD-focused. So do the ports on PC run better on AMD or Nvidia. And devs are lazier and lazier, hence the ever-increasing demand on higher specs for new games. Unreal Engine 5 for example is absurdly hungry and a lot of devs are building on it now. STALKER 2 will barely hit 85 FPS at max settings on a 4090 at frigging 1080p without DLSS 3.0. That's insanely bad, but it's built on Unreal Engine 5.0.
@liebkraft9950Ай бұрын
it's dlss. it's still far superior to the amd alternative and it can make a game look better than with native resolution. also in terms of overclocking and undervolting, and i don't know if this has been improved since about a year ago, but i bought a 6700xt and tested some undervolting. with unstable settings, in completely resets the entire driver. with nvidia you just get a crash to desktop. also power consumption in non gaming related scenarios. amd gpus still use quite a bit of power when you're watching a youtube video and when you spend more time on the internet instead of gaming, you may want a more power efficient solution. but i feel like amd is closing in and in a couple generations it'll be a true alternative.

Does resolution recommendations I’m more of a rule of thumb to get you in the ballpark, but they really don’t serve any purpose than that. It all depends on what programs or games you’re planning on running, what frame rate you would like to achieve in the quality settings You’re using. All of that is compounded by the infinite number of CPU/GPU combinations one could have I can take a high-end graphics card and make it the bottleneck if I target low quality settings at 7:20 P I can make high-end CTU the bottle neck by playing at 4K with all the bells and whistles. Even though that’s not a perfect analogy because it depends on title and what sort of environment variables it’s trying to load. The only thing actionable that you can do is try to find testing with something comparable to the set up. You’re planning on running or look at a whole bunch of charts to get you in the ballpark.

@@ernstt1616 Nah just playing mate. The 7990xt is a great card and it's crazy how it has 20gb of RAM, Nvidia's comparison cards have less RAM so handle 4K worse by a massive margin. Only way Nvidia wins is when DLSS is turned on, THEN it matches the 7900XT's performance when it's NOT using FRS, so AMD wins big time for a similar price to, say, a 3080. Only issue is AMD's drivers are always worse than Nvidia's, and most games are made with Nvidia in mind so AMD cards get shafted on some games, and destroy Nvidia on others. Same the other way around though so...depends what you play and your resolution target ie monitor you use.

4080 Super is going to be considered a deal once Nvidia releases its replacement. They’re absolutely not going to let the 1080 TI ever happen again and so far they’ve been able to rebrand cards getting higher than expected backlash while simultaneously hitting that balance point between demand and availability, which ensures prices only go up. This will be compounded by Intel contemplating abandoning dedicated graphics and AMD already surrendering high end and enthusiast classes.

@Balnazzardi3 күн бұрын
Well its not only that, but also keep in mind that game developers are primarily designing games with also console hardware in mind. So until next consoles come out and their GPU VRAM is increased from current ones, well there isnt much pressure to put more VRAM to their GPUs. Also good thing to remember that VRAM isnt everything, its also about clock speed and memory bus and Nvidia has also really managed well with their DLSS tech too. So for example their RTX 4070 super with 12GB of VRAM performs more or less as well as their previous flagship model 3090 with 24GB of VRAM. Ofc ultimately the amount of VRAM is gonna be the limiting factor for the lifespan of the GPU but lets say you would get 16GB AMD GPU now, they would propably be quite low on performance with their memory bus and clock speeds when 12GB becomes standard for Nvidia lower end cards and 16GB becomes standard for their mid range cards. Overall what Im trying to say that while ofc VRAM is important, lot of ppl are focusing too much on it and forgetting that other things have to take into account too Anyhow it also comes down to much what kind of games you are playing and what kind of resolution. I managed to do just fine with my GTX 970 for nearly 10 years because I was playing at 1080p and mainly older games or games that arent the most system heavy, atleast for the GPU (like strategy/tactical games) so I would assume and I am hoping that now that I got RTX 4070 Super it can last me for better part of next 10 years as well 😂 lot of that comes down to next generation consoles specs and how long Nvidia plans to support DLSS 3 I guess

@@lucasremThey said they bought it months ago, they would’ve been having a subpar experience for that entire time and the next 2 months until release of 5xxx. And that’s assuming they’re able to 1, afford the new GPUs, and 2, get hold of one during the limited availability at launch.
@mikecampbell1669Ай бұрын
@ZachLDB I'm in this boat too, I can't decide between getting a 7900xt for around $600 on black Friday, or around that time, or waiting for the launch in January and seeing what both AMD and NVidia have to offer in that 600-800 dollar range. But then I'm waiting and sitting with my newly built pc that had my old 1070 until I get a new gpu. I just bought the AOC 1440 mini led monitor after months of debating on 4k or high refresh rate 1440. My goal is to have the new gpu before Monster Hunter Wilds comes out at the end of February.

@@mikecampbell1669 Yeah, we understand, i was GTX 1080, RTX 4070 now, i waited 8 years. It's just enough for 4 k on a high FPS monitor. old GTX failed there a bit.

@@lucasrem There's always a "should have waited" situation going on. At some point you just gotta buy and maybe upgrade later. Pop the "old" card in a secondary PC or something. I've waited 9 years to get a new PC. Kept postponing because something new was coming out or the prices were gonna drop later or the prices were too high at that point. My last (big) build was in 2014 (GTX970 and an i-6700). This week I got a 4070S and R9 9900X. Maybe I'll upgrade in a couple years or maybe we'll be in the next decade when I get a new PC... who knows?

I still don’t know what to get for 3d modeling and video editing for around $1000? 7900xtx? 4070ti Super? 4080 Super? To me the 4080 doesn’t offer much more over the 4070ti super for the price. I’m doing a new white build so it kind of limits my selection. I appreciate any input.
@ZenAndPsychedelicHealingCenterАй бұрын
Unless you really want ray tracing so badly that you'll pay for that and lose out on some other performance, then the 7900 XTX would be the best value for your use case at the moment. Definitely not the 4070 Super. However, if ray tracing is super important to you, then the 4080 and above Nvidia cards fit that bill (and bill is the operative word here). Asrock do the Tai Chi 7900 XTX in white but, bear in mind that you'll be paying about $100 just for that difference.

I have mostly been doing VR with my system... I'm wondering if VRAM capacity (i.e. AMD) or ray tracing is more important (i.e. Nvidia). Opinions?
@jfh2112Ай бұрын
I'd go with VRAM over RT (I did, in fact)
@MattSmith-ks2lcАй бұрын
VRAM is a better investment. RT is fine for the current or past games. But future games usually require the future video card generation to run RT well.
@ZenAndPsychedelicHealingCenterАй бұрын
Definitely VRAM. If you also want good RT performance, then nothing below a 4080 is really worth it. On the other hand, if you don't care that much about RT, then the 7800 XT and above are all solid. The 7900 XT in particular has come down in price quite a bit recently.
