Hello Paul, you and Tina are inspirations to us all. I was changing the differential oil, transmission oil, and the engine oil in my car yesterday when this video was released, and all because of you. It wasn't a Ford Model A because I haven't gotten one yet. I was working on my 2006 Mazda MX5. I've never worked on it that much before, but now I have the courage to do so. Still haven't found a Model A that isn't a hooptie. Most cars for sale need a lot of work and I'm not up to that yet. I need one that has been taken care of and needs some nudges once in a while to get me started. Thanks for everything!

For what it's worth, If you have a leak due to warpping or corrosion at the manifold to exhaust down pipes clamp I've used a sheet of aluminum foil roughly square then folded over on its self until 1¼"-1½" wide... then wrapped around the down pipe flange with roughly 1" above and trimmed to make a full number of wraps then carefully fold the piece above the flange down into the inside. Now when tightened the the factory collar clamp seals without excessive pressure on the bolts. Works great, lasts years and isn't visible. I have used this method for 9n/2n ford tractors which share the same basic engine design never used it on a model A though. Hopefully that is helpful at some point.

You guys have just about convinced me to buy a model A. I have five model T's laying around in various states so a verdict of insanity is more than likely. I still consider myself Packard man but the early Fords are a world of their own - both easy and fun to work on. .The model A's are very attractive - with twice the power and brakes ! They ill never catch a Packard twin six but they will get across country. Great channel I collect old radios as well. Cheers W5YB

It is good to see Tina really enjoying the roadster ; adds a new dimension to the videos. The manifold gasket job was very well shown. I now use gland rings because of Pauls advice. With the original manifolds most of us still use, quite hard to get a 100% seal. Paul, how different would say is the performance /acceleration between your '29 Fordor & the '29 roadster.? I have a Fordor & Tudor ; the Tudor is like a jack rabbit but not the Fordor. Cheers. Wayne from NZ.

Paul, I reached out to you awhile back about my 31 Model A truck. I have been working on this for a couple months on and off. I took a break because I was just too frustrated….. ultimately here is my issue and no forums have the same problem. My distributor came loose at the beginning and stopped spinning. I don’t think the set screw was in correctly. Anyways I bought a brand new distributor from Snyder’s with modern points. I have spark. The truck is backfiring through the carb as it cranks and will NOT. Start. I pulled the front cover like you recommended to see if timing jumped and it’s spot on. I have no clue where to go from here. The timing has been checked 10 plus times by your video and the rotor points at 5 o’clock like it should. I have blue spark and I even pulled the plugs out and lined them up to see how they fire. 1243 in order. I have pulled the carb off and nothing looks dirty. Even replaced the intake gaskets twice….. I’m ready to drive this thing and enjoy it but don’t have enough knowledge and want to give up and sell it but love it too much to go that far. Just frustrating. It cranks fine when the ignition is off but seems to almost hydro lock if I keep cranking it with the key on. I bought the clear cap also and see the blue spark. I need help! Any ideas PLEASE. At this point I’m begging for ideas lol
@ModelA
@ModelA Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark. Sorry I missed your message. I get 100-300 emails a day and cannot possibly see all of them. When #1 is at TDC, the rotor should be pointing to about 4 o'clock, not 5. If it's pointing to 5, it is way too advanced. That will cause symptoms you describe. Use a ohmmeter to determine where the points open. With the spark lever just 2 notches from all the way up, rotor pointed at 4 o'clock, the points should be closed, just about to open. I have seen a LOT of "brand new" distributors with modern points where the points are mounted in the wrong location on the upper plate.
@markreynolds1663
@markreynolds1663 Жыл бұрын
@@ModelA oh no worries at all. I just appreciate you taking the time to give me guidance. And wow….my points were open…..what do you mean by points mounted in wrong spot? Do I need to send the plate back and ask for a new one? Or can I just readjust the points by loosing up the 2 screws and reset my gap? The plastic guide on the points that ride on the rotor lobe shows at the uphill part of the lobe. Hope this makes sense. Sorry and THANK YOU!!!!!!
@ModelA

You need someone to put eyeballs on that. Find a nearby club ASAP. I mean the position of the points where they are mounted on the upper plate. I have seen many that are several degrees off.

I don’t see how you could torque those manifold nuts without an extension. Some people are just silly. 😜

It makes a change to see real people actually restoring a classic rather than a hairy, tattooed, noisy, shouty, bearded, ego maniac destroying said car wit modern parts and “an LS”!

lucky you got a " WIFE " that appreciates that old stuff ! most women are like ; " when are you gonna stop dragging all that old " junk " home !!!! better known as the " piss & moan club " !!!!! there are plenty of guys that bring projects home & spend countless hours out in the garage but , never finish them , " why " cause that is how they " escape " the tongue lashings from the " piss & moan club " !!!! If they finish the project , they will then have to spend time with the " piss & moan club " !!! fact of the matter , this is how a lot of men stay " married " !!! but if you ask these guys they will say , " yepper been happily married for 42 years " or what ever time it has been !!!!! yeah , okay , if you have to " hide - in - the - garage " from the wifey, just to stay married then I don't want no parts of gettin married again !!!! GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK , LIKE YOUR CHANNEL !!!! the Mack truck guy
