I love this video. I have a handmade book that a neighbor of my mom made for me. I’m not sure I would ever make anything from it but just the fact that she put heart and soul into putting it together just for me is precious. She cut recipes from magazines and pasted them into a notebook. The time that she spent doing this is not lost on me.

I have never understood how anyone would part with something that was their family heirloom and history, I could never let my grandmother's or my mom's recipes go, I love that your friend knew exactly who would treasure this, you are so very special and I thank you so much for making this video, maybe it will save someone's memories. I hope you are having a fantastic Sunday and I hope your week is amazing. Big hugs and much love from NC 😊🥰❤😘

I remember the Betty Crocker cards. I got them in the 1970's and I also had that same set of recipe cards that you held up. Oh my, does this bring back a lot of memories! We had the "While You Were Out" Telephone call pads. Ours were Pink! Those recipes look a lot like mine. I'm pushing 73. My oldest daughter is "inheriting" my old Southern Living cookbooks.

My mom’s recipes are like that. She kept them in a shoe box & it was crammed full. There are recipes written on the back of envelopes, little bits of paper, pieces of brown paper grocery I bags, recipes cards, etc. When it got full front to back, she started sticking them in the sides. They are a treasure to have. I need to go through them, organize them by category & find some way to compile them. That just might take me till my dying day. 😂 Stay safe & healthy. I am so sorry about Heather & her family. I know y’all were close. My thoughts & prayers are with them. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm one of the unfortunate ones whose mom was not a cook. She burned Jello, and once baked a frozen pizza with the plastic still on! True story! Blessedly, my MIL shared a few of her recipes with me, as did my step-mom. They're priceless to me.

I'm new to your channel. And as a guy too, i love vintage recipes and cookbooks. And i fully agree. These are all treasures of the past that need to be saved and preserved. I can NEVER understand families just throwing out their old handwritten recipes from relatives. Seems like such a disregard for their family history. Really Sad! Keep the good video's coming my friend.

I love having my mother in law's recipe box. Old handwritten recipe files are treasures at estate sales! When I married 33 years ago I made sure to write down all of the family favorite recipes from my mom and I have started separate recipe books for each of our 4 daughters. I try to make note where each recipe comes from as well. I gather recipes from many places but the blank make your own recipe books only get the tried and true favorites.

I received bunches of books and recipes from my grandmother before she passed. The family has two items that we all miss her making. One is mincemeat using venison and the other is Peanut Butter meringue Pie. NO ONE can recreate them. She has left out steps and/or ingredients. I do not think on purpose, (but her daughter in law does, lol) My nan was so used to making them, that she just assumed that we would know what to do. She gave me a very, very old composition book filled with recipes that someone wrote down. Problem is, no directions and sometimes no amounts. I have not had a decent biscuit either. I am creating a cookbook for my daughter, hopefully I can alter some family favorites so she can enjoy them, (gluten allergy) But I make sure to include ALL ingredients, amounts, steps, everything. Also, I have the Betty Crocker recipe card of the month box, my mom gave me hers. I don't make much from it, but it is fun to go through it.

@@PaulsRuleofThumb It was so yummy, My nan made it for my birthday instead of cake my last birthday before she passed. My mom tried to recreate it, nope. It was nice and creamy like chocolate pie, but super rich like pecan pie. A sliver was all you could handle at a sitting. She would cover the pie with meringue and then would put twirls of extra meringue on top, we called them knobbys. Then she would bake it. It was awesome.

I’m 56 and still have an entire flat of recipe clippings that were my grandmother’s handed down to my mother. My grandmother has been gone since 1982 and my mother since 1997. I have one daughter who lives in a different state from me that I know will never hang on to these recipes because she is a minimalist (and a vegan). I am a passionate cookbook collector and could spend hours pouring over this kind of stuff. I just love it and appreciate it. It would be nice to find a way to preserve some of this stuff electronically, but, the task is rather daunting!

I wonder if it was on of the nuns that worked at the hospitals my grandmas worked at. My mom told me this one nun who worked with her mom, told her how to make baby formula for me since I was lactose intolerant. My other grandma said there were nuns at the hospital she worked at that showed people how to make formula. I was born in 73 in southern IL. My grandma had a drawer full of recipe cards she collected from people, magazines, newspapers, and food packages. My aunt got them all. Both grandmas said the nuns would put together cookbooks for fund raisers, either for the church or the hospitals they worked at. My mom tried to type all of her handwritten recipes one time. Then she got me to help to improve my typing skills. IF I had any of my grandma's recipes or my great grandma's (written in German) recipes, I'd put them in a scrapbook with the acid free paper and plastic sheets, to preserve them.

Think my mother had my father's recipe card box. Not sure where she has it. I already know how to make most of those. I mostly want the Filipino recipes which Mom doesn't measure anything. I guess I will just buy Filipino cookbooks and look up recipes to print out and put into page protectors. In my case try to protect them from stains and random water drops like a random sleepy teardrop like my journals are full of. Usually light and moisture can degrade papers. Storing them in a dark and dry place is likely a good thing.

Unfortunately, neither of my grandmothers used written recipes. It was all in their head. I once asked my grandmother if she could tell me the ingredients in her Pierogi recipe so I could write it down. When I asked her how much flour she was putting in she looked at me and said "As much as will fit!" Nothing was ever measured out - it was all done by sight.
