I'm in total admiration of how JA's business class is designed. In many ways it looks like a first class suite. There's privacy, efficiency, and a very satisfying sense of geometry in the whole layout.

Yeah I think it's really well designed. It's certainly the best 2-2-2 design out there.

JAL is great and they tend to have quite new equipment too. It's very interesting that they can be reasonable cost from Australia, I'll be bearing that in mind. I looked at the initial meal, a sort of Bento Box and I thought that's nice but probably not enough. Then what was effectively a second meal came out with dessert. Lol. Noticed too the "snacks" included an Angus beef hamburger.jeez.

Paul, I enjoy your no-nonsense reviews and sense of humour. I flew SYD/NRT/LAX/NRT/SYD in J last November for a quick business trip to LA. Two sectors were on JAL 787s, one on an AA787 and a JAL 777. I agree with most of your comments. Sadly in the middle section the storage is not as good as the window seats. Food was great (Japanese). Service of the high standard anticipated. The surprising sector was NRT/LAX on an AA787. Fabulous Japanese food and I liked the window seat layout. I had set my expectations low for that sector so it was a pleasant surprise. The JAL Lounge at Narita was very average and over-crowded.
@PaulStewartAviation5 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, thanks for the feedback. I agree that the JAL lounges are average. I flew in F out of HND last month and the lounge was underwhelming, and the review of that will be online soon :)

I had such a wonderful experience flying with JAL. I will surely book my flights with them again. The seat was very comfortable. There is one unique function of the seat that nobody seems to mention, that is you can inflate the middle section to support your lower back. Even though it's a 2-2-2 layout, it is very private as the person sitting next to you is actually not sitting on a parallel line and the dividing screen can cover you completely in the upright position. The main meal was superb! I'd say go with the Western option even though the Japanese one looks nice. I had abalone and asparagus on my flight that day. The staff were really nice and the way they presented the food was meticulous. I did not get any jet lag at all after a 10-hour flight and managed to get a few hours of sleep. Also appreciate the beauty mask and the humidifying breathing mask so you won't look crap after a long-haul flight.

I just flew F on ANA 777-300er and loved it. Considering another Japan trip next year and looking at JAL. Would you say JAL F (on 777) is significantly better than J (787)? Is it worth the added effort to find award availability in F, plus the points premium, versus J which seems to be easier to find? I found one possible itinerary with F outbound, and J return. Couldn’t find F on return. Thanks
