I have spent the whole day at Changi before! I flew from Singapore to Melbourne in January 2020 & my flight was at 9pm and hotel checkout was 10am so I had to spend the whole day at the Jewel and Changi obviously! Qantas offered early check in so I got rid of my suitcase and had the best day ever! Covered every last spot of the incredible jewel, then walked through each terminal seeing various aircraft and airlines. I then visited all the cool gardens changi offers. I then toured the airport via the sky rail to see how it would be if I was short of time. Also great places to eat and plane spot! I had around 11 hours at the Jewel and Changi, and I still wish it was more! Only the Qantas A380 taking me to Australia stopped me staying! The best airport in the world bar none. Keep up the great content Paul and I can’t wait for your 24 hours here one day 😊

@tammypearson45003 жыл бұрын
@@joermnyc I had no idea, thank you!
@jimsimon44323 жыл бұрын
@@joermnyc I am a local. For clarity, in Singapore, some locals bought tickets to get into the secure section of the terminals where the duty-free shops and lounges are. After enjoying themselves, they cancelled their tickets or just didn't board. Upon exit from immigration their true intentions were clear and they were arrested as it is against the law. Aside from that, Changi Airport does everything possible to encourage locals to visit the airport for shopping and eating in the terminals' public areas (which are incredibly large) as well as Jewel, which is a gigantic shopping mall.
@thomasisking3 жыл бұрын
You'll need an airline ticket to be air-side at the airport, but there is so much land-side at the airport (no ticket needed) that can be done. Changi is not called the world's best airport for nothing.

Nasi lamak is my husband’s FAVORITE. He grew up in Malaysia, but he brought his mom over here to live near us when he immigrated - and she is a fantastic cook. She made nasi lamak last week and my husband enjoyed flexing on his friends in the US without a Malaysian cooking hookup. 😂 He might be tempted to fly first/business if he knew he could have real Indian/Malaysian/Singaporean food.

Yeah SIA always serves the food and label it according to the local timezone they're currently at - so when you arrive in LA and it's 11.35am, it's closer to "lunch". I flew SIA numerous times and it's always been this way. For example - night flight leaving SG at 9.30pm and arriving in Australia at 5am (2.30am on my un-adjusted watch), they serve "breakfast", which technically is "supper" to me, albeit a late-night one 😁

3:37 Because there're already overhead bridges linking Jewel to Terminals 2 & 3, while it itself is adjacent to Terminal 1 (the main entrance is at ground level where Terminal 1's pick-up point & taxi stand used to be; it has since been moved to B1 to make way for the entrance). Given the length of the bridges I'd agree that adding a SkyTrain stop in Jewel makes sense though

This is not the only example of fourth-freedom cabotage that I've experienced. In July 1995, I took SQ5/6 from LAX to TPE and back in their premium economy in the nose of their 747-400 equipment. This route is actually LAX-HNL-TPE-SIN for SQ5 and the reverse for SQ6. SQ5 leaves LAX early afternoon and lands in HNL at 12 midnight, and arrives TPE early morning. SQ6 leaves TPE late afternoon, lands in HNL at 12 noon, and arrives LAX early afternoon. I remember that passengers on SQ5 from LAX could not use duty free there as the first leg is a US domestic flight. Duty free in HNL was open for our flight at midnight. Additionally on SQ5, the safety announcement for the LAX to HNL (and SQ6 HNL-LAX) leg had one more video addition announcement giving notice that "US Federal Law prohibits smoking inflight anywhere on an aircraft inside the U.S". For SQ6, we were held at one of the containment gates at HNL. Passengers continuing to LAX did not clear customs. Passenger getting on board at HNL were warned that they'd be joining an international flight and would be subjected to US Customs and Immigration upon arrival once they entered the containment area. The food, service, and ambience was impeccable and top-notch. Now, if they can run their FRA-JFK extension flight like they did in late 2019, that'd be great! :-)

“Direct” can involve a stopover. “Non-stop” means it is start to end with no stopover.
@zork9992 жыл бұрын
And sometimes "direct" can involve a "change of gauge" where the equipment changes, but the flight number stays the same. So fly from A to B on a 737 and then switch to a 747 for B to C (I did that once) while the flight number was the same and they had the gall to call it a direct flight. Yes, technically it was, but I thought the change of gauge was rather much.

Speaking of the food on the Narita to LAX leg, it’s easily explainable why the food was so fantastic: ALL JAPANESE ONBOARD CATERING IS 6 STAR. All meals made in Japan are much better than the rest of the world. I’ve never ever had a bad meal on a flight from Japan (except scoot, no surprise there since the food is frozen from Singapore) so I’m not surprised at all that you had a fantastic meal from Tokyo Narita.

Ahhh how I miss Singapore Airlines. I had the privilege of having Changi as a home airport for a few years and used to push the boat (and airmiles) out to do business class flights back to the UK (its a far more civilised way to spend a 12/14 hour flight!). My experience every single time was what you had seen. Awesome food, superb crew and it was almost a shame to have to get off at the destination. I used to get a couple of hours sleep, but always felt it was a waste to sleep too much and enjoyed the flight time - overnight flights were awesome with 90% of the cabin sleeping. they had amazing espresso and the crew would just automatically reload me before my cup was empty haha. I never did SQ first class - the business class experience was so good, I didn't feel the need.
