That back of the park area around Cobra is a great demonstration of what the park used to be before Peppa pig. And it’s a really good demonstration of what a lot of UK amusements were/are like before they gain serious theming. It’s what Alton towers was like before Nemesis. It’s what Thorpe was like before Colossus. And it’s honestly what Oakwood and lightwater valley still are since they never got that success story.

Light water valley was a great park. had the longest coaster in the world. We organised a coach trip every year. Alton towers bragged about 80 rides and attractions in 360 acres. Merlin sold land and rides to help pay for new rides and they now Bragg about over 40 but half of those are in cbbs for under 5’s. Themeing isnt everything

This is my local "large park" to see it change from what was Cobra style to Tonardo Springs is insane to watch, the levels of theme has been far above any other UK park. The family really care, every time we go painting, planting or other touch ups are always on going. A real pleasure park to visit.

The land Cobra is in is listed as a country park by the council, and there was a somewhat legal battle as to whether the park would have to relocate Cobra to another area of the park, which is why they can’t theme that part.

NOT ANYMORE! it is now being used for a future 2026 vikings land development so they now have acces to retheme it

Paultons is my local park and I've grew up with it. Pepper pig world opened when I was too old to enjoy it so I remember the park before the theming, though we did visit in September and loved all the new stuff. Some fun facts for you: Cobra is a unique ride, no other gerstlauer bob has that layout! Speaking of that area, Paultons didn't have quite the right kind of planning permission for Cobra or Edge when they were built. The council allowed the rides to stay but I think this is why that section is underdeveloped. As an autistic I like the quite space without music or busy visuals but agree it could do with some love!! Ever since I was little the landscaping and topiary have been exceptional. As well as the birds there used to be "dinosaur walk" which was a boardwalk through the woods with Dino statues and roaring sounds. As I got older I started playing the game "spot the speaker" as we went through but I always insisted we saw it! This is why when they themed up Lost Kingdom they made it dinosaur themed as a homage. The animatronics that are there now are amazing and genuinely blew me away when I saw them in September! Speaking of Lost Kingdom, as adorable as Dino Chase is, it used to be called The Flying Frog and the front of the train had a very dapper frog tipping his top hat on it. I miss him. My favourite ride at the park as a kid was Stinger, now Cat-o-pillar! (nowadays it's Cobra) It had a googlyeyed caterpillar/bug/thing on the front and the antenne were made of springs so they wobbled as you went around the layout. The building inside critter creek with the aquarium in used to be Wind in the Willows and was a walkthrough attraction with animatronic characters. This was early 2000s and they were... not great. Still, I loved it because I love frogs and therefore wanted to see Mr. Toad. Finally, (as this is getting long) I wanna talk about dragon roundabout for a second. This ride was not built last year, though noone will blame you for thinking that it was. It was actually installed in 2001 and is the only one of its kind to have that colour scheme. All the others are blue! This ride is loved by kids, hated by parents and has always looked beautiful. I and many other locals would be very sad if it was ever removed. Love the video!

God, The Flying Frog and the Stinger are a throwback! I grew up with the park too! I remember when Edge opened and I was gutted that I couldn't go on it alone like Kobra at Chessington. It's good to see the park getting some recognition and I love how much it grew but I do miss little 7 year old me going on Cobra and thinking Rollercoasters couldn't get better than that.

Paultons was always a childhood park for me, and I'm glad you enjoyed your time there! I've been itching to go back for the past few years, since all that expansion they've done has honestly made me more interested than ever to go back; its definitely a park to keep an eye on, and I can't lie, those options of an Intamin straddle coaster or a Vekoma coaster like Fonix would work really well not just for the park, but on a nationwide scale. We've been lacking those sorts of rides in the UK, so to see those sort of additions (especially since I live relatively local to the place) would definitely make it a must-do!

One time before pepper pig world was added me and my dad went to paultons. The whole time we were there we only saw one other family. I couldn't ride cobra yet so we just marathons stinger (now cat o pillar) for most of the day. Probably why I became an enthusiast. Also I think the reason the cobra area gets neglected is it used to be the main area before pepper pig world so I think they thought it would hold up OK without any theme for now.

No, it gets overlooked because they have NO thrill rides. Also I HATE the term ‘FAMILY park’, it’s not a FAMILY park is it!? There’s NOTHING for adults, It’s a KIDS park, LITERALLY. AND Honestly, you’re praising it for feeling and looking residential!? That’s an absolutely bizarre flex. Also, ALL you enthusiasts need to stop being so obsessed with nature in the parks. Otherwise, may I suggest you actually prefer Zoos and not theme parks…

@@CoasterStudios Ah I’ve seen it 😅 and I couldn’t disagree more. Here are my counter arguments: Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the lowest attended of all the Disney parks in Orlando, and even does less numbers than the Universal parks… The most successful theme park expansion ever is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and its almost completely devoid of any nature… It literally made Universal a direct competitor to Disney in shares, when prior they were miles off! And while I can’t prove it, I think we both know the next great expansion draw will be Nintendo Land in Universals Epic Adventure - again, totally devoid of nature… Nature isn’t the key, faithful quality theming and unique and compelling attractions are! I do find it amazing that this opinion is actually controversial in the theme park community.
