GOREME OPEN AIR MUSEUM showcase the rock caves of ancient monasteries. There are eleven refectories within the Museum, with rock-cut churches tables and benches. Each is associated with a church. Most of the churches in Goreme Open Air Museum belong to the 10th, 11th and 12th centuries. It was one of the first two UNESCO sites in Turkey & has been a member of UNESCO World Heritage List since 1984.
UCHISAR CASTLE tall volcanic-rock outcrop, one of Cappadocia's most prominent landmarks and visible for miles around. A museum managed by the Municipality of Uchisar. It has been used as both a watchtower and a defensive castle for around 2,000 years-the Romans even mounted enormous trebuchet slingshots to defend it. Used for centuries by villagers as a place of refuge when enemy armies overtook the surrounding plains. By the 16th century, around 3,000 people lived in its warren of rooms-and it remained inhabited until the 1960s.
PIGEON VALLEY also known as Guvercinlik Valley earned its name from the countless man made dovecotes (Pigeon Houses) that have been carved into the soft volcanic tuff. Among the most popular hiking trails in Cappadocia, especially because it stretches between Goreme to Uchisar. Along the route, you will find cave dwellings, ancient paintings, earth pillars, and of course… pigeons. Since ancient times Pigeons have been used in the Cappadocia region for food and fertiliser for the infertile soil.
QUAD BIKING a fun and exciting way to explore the some of the most interesting sights in Cappadocia. You will be able to tour around hills, valleys and villages. In addition you can observe the spectacular rock formations, fairy chimneys, cave houses and churches.
LOVE VALLEY A more modern explanation for the name Love Valley can be due in part to the heart-shaped fairy chimneys that dot the landscape. The history of Love Valley dates back to at least Roman times. A legendary tale of forbidden love between a young man and girl from a rival village.
AVANOS most important industry is pottery production, an industry which probably dates back to Hittite times and which makes use of clay from the red silt of the Kızılırmak. The town is also a popular tourist destination because of its attractive old town and riverside location.
The potter's wheel is an example of an early mechanical invention: it can be traced back to the ancient Sumerians as early as 3,250 B.C.E. (2). Early wheels were probably slow wheels; later fast wheels allowed potters to work more quickly and to create more uniform vessels. Before the invention of the potter's wheel, pottery was made by hand, primarily using the coiling method.
