Next time, put it in the refrigerator to get it cold before opening. That’ll keep more of the gas in solution. Think of it like a can of soda. Warm soda will off gas more aggressively than a cold can.

Very interesting! Useful information too. So the bubbling when you got the bottom off the can... I'm guessing releasing the pressure relatively rapidly as you did,the liquid propellant was absorbing heat as it evaporated into a gas. It got the shellac and the can so cold that there was some liquid propellant still in the bottom of the can, evaporating and making bubbles up through the shellac.

Thanks for that info. I'm terrible at science and physics.

Great method. As long as you are careful with the initial incision and use a good quality can opener, this works a treat.

Hi Paul. I think I'd be tempted to use a can of shellac or Binz primer with a foam brush versus doing all that. Thanks for the info though!

I think the shellac was just carbonated. When they can it, I think they put the shellac in, seal it, and then pressurize it. Sounds just like how a soda stream works, assuming that’s how they can it.

@@monkeysuncle2816 sure, but if he's staying that close and venting the stuff in a bigger batch than he would release by spraying inside, I don't think it's that much more diluted with air. Not instantly.

In mentioning the fumes I was trying to avoid being around was referring to a corner area in my camper where the paneling has rotted out due to past moisture damage. I know it's not good to be around rotted wood, so this was my idea of sealing that area. Spraying in a small confined area sucks, and the area that I was sealing was a small strip. Much easier to brush on the sealer. No taping no fuss. As to me being over the can, yes, but I didn't stick around once it started leaking. KZbin does have some nutshells but I try not to be one of those guys or gals.
