In this tip I explain how to stop topping the ball and cure thin shots too. You fix these topped and thin shots and your whole game will change so make sure you watch this tip and start working on it right away.
Pick Up Free Samples of The Body Swing here: bodyswing.com/...
Everyone has topped the ball before as well as well as hit thin shots so we all know how frustrating they are. Just when you think you're going to hit a great shot, you see your ball rolling down the fairway or flying over the green.
Imagine rarely ever topping the ball ever again. If you're a better player image being able to fix thin shots instantly. How many shots would this save you in a round? Well, this tip explains 2 cures that you need to start working on right away. One is through and past impact and the other is before you even start you swing so make sure you watch this whole tip.
This really is nothing you've ever heard or worked on before so make sure you try both tips. If you do, you'll finally stop topping the ball and cure thin shots.

You know Paul..this is your 2nd video that really a game changer for me. As I have commented your video on neutral grip that have changed my ball strike forever, and you have replied it nicely, this has also created a new perspective for me at the course, which I now have more solid contact effortless. My swing though in my last round on Thursday 17 Feb, after watching this video was only ‘swing nice and easy’…I always tried to remember what you said that, ‘topped ball is a clue that you swing to hard!’ …….and I couldn’t believe I have almost never top the ball again, on every lie at the course. Even for the harder club to hit for me (hybrid or long iron 5). It was felt easy if I went easy every swing. Thank you again Paul!

Very good. Glad you just swung easy. As you get better and keep hitting more and more solid shots then you can go a little harder (with body). If you keep swinging hard and keep topping it then you have no confidence. Confidence breeds distance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6WpmJqDe8-npMk

This is because most average golfers do the same swing. It is all based on human nature and trying to hit the object sitting in front of you with the arms. If most people do this then similar flaws turn up. See it differently. You are not hitting anything. You are allowing the ball to be hit because you are making a movement. This movement is powered with the legs and hips. Watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKaye6uslJdlfs0

As a new golfer, I appreciate these tips. My 7 iron swing cleared up immediately. I have the consistency I desire as a beginner with it. However, the driver is much more of a challenge. There is no lift and an enormous amount of thin shots. I appreciate this tip because it reminds me to stop trying to hit the ball so hard and instead relax and loosen up. I am reminded to delay looking for the ball after hitting it, to allow time to follow through with the swing. I can see how this prevents me from coming out of my swing to early which could cause the topping or thin shot effect. And I appreciate the reminder of finding a spot in the sky once I'm out of the swing. It's what the pros do by looking at the sky at an angle. That worked well with my 7 iron, the loft and distance was impressive for me as a beginner. Now, I have to work to take this same information and apply it to the driver. Totally appreciate your video Mr. Wilson and your book the Body Swing by Paul Wilson. You are awesome, thanks!
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you are doing well. The driver will come. Thin and topped shots are a clue telling you that you are swinging too hard. It is fun to swing hard with driver but do so with the legs and hips not hands and arms. Just a different way to get power. I would be working on the arm unit first hinging and rehinging daily in practice swings. Get this working then you connect it to your body which is coiling and uncoiling. If you have trouble start with 3 wood and build up to driver.

Great video, I watched it early this morning and I especially like the tip on not watching the ball initially after impact. Its just like when they say don't watch the ball after you putt it. Its a great in play mode swing thought, I used it today and had one of my best ball striking days ever. You don't really have to fixate on keeping your head perfectly still or hand positions just swing thru, hit the ball straight and don't follow the ball till long after impact. Its actually less than a second that you don't try to look for the ball but it surely worked for me. I also tried to really ease up after mishitting my 5 wood, I just said swing nice and easy smooth, just make solid contact and don't look at the ball right after impact and it really worked well. Thanks for the great tips.

This is you trying to hit it too hard. The harder you hit the more you will come put of it. Think of it as a clue telling you that you are swinging too hard. After you top one go down to 50%. This will get the next one in the air. Once you do that you get more power with the legs and hips so start using them more for more power.

I always top the ball because I want to avoid hitting the ground behind the ball,the thing I keep repeating time after time, so by the time the club face is about to reach the ball I would unintentionally have left my head not wanting to hit the ground before the ball , it happens a lot especially with long irons! Hey, i’m a complete beginner been only a few weeks on an induction course. Last Sunday was our first day on the course, we were split in two teams and played alternative shots for 3 holes. On my first shot which was one from the rough, i felt an intense amount of pressure to perform and in the process i forgot all my technic and swung the club only to hit the ball forward by a couple of yards. On my second shot i felt even more pressure to perform because of the failure in my first shot. I swung the club same result accept this time i injured my left wrist badly because i hit the ground hard. By this time not only was my moral down to -10 unlike my score but i was in pain. My next shot was a tee shot with a 5 iron. I had to be given 3 chances to hit it again. I tried to mentally recover from the situation aware that I mentally sunk into a pit-hole. I eventually pulled off a decent chip and a good putt ( no distance and power needed) now my hand is swollen definitely cannot lift a golf club for a while. My confidence is also now all gone and feels like i put in that hard work for nothing as i really thought i was improving fast. You advise or better still making a video on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 4 жыл бұрын
Well, you are playing under pressure which you are not used to. Always keep in mind that everyone has hit every bad shot you have hit so stop caring about the shots. You need to also change how you think. Instead of worrying about them get a new thought. Years ago I had tons of different things I was thinking of when hitting the ball. So after practicing I went out to play. All I did to clear my mind was think 1, 2, 3. On 3 I just took the club back. I only played 7 holes and I was 3 under. Why it worked is because I was thinking of the numbers. If I was thinking about the numbers I wasn't thinking about all the other stuff. So give this a try. I will do tips on the course too at some point.

Excellent video! I think it's difficult for amateurs to grasp that the angle bent over at the waist when at address, is maintained in the downswing, by transferring some of it to trail side lateral bend. The further we get into the downswing, the more we transfer some of that angle from the waist to the side. The lead side expands, and the trail side contracts. The number one reason most amateurs don't induce lateral side bend is because it's uncomfortable, and feels unnatural. One look at Freddie Couples "down the line view" and we immediately get a sense of lateral side bend maintained well past impact.

No. That is swing analysis which takes us forever. The video sessions in CoachLink are already short. The longest I have ever done is just over 20 mins. People need to understand that. I check your swing then give you a few things to work on. That is all you need. You do not need 20 things. You need 2 or 3. Then you work on them and actually work on them. Then move on from there.

Hey Paul, thanks for the tips! I noticed when I filmed myself that when I topp, I lift my right heel from the ground. Is swinging slower a good solution?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Well some people lift the heel too soon. I want it lifting at impact but not because you are lifting it but because you are turning and it is pulled off the ground. 3-4" with irons and 5-6" with driver. So hit the top and turn. Not lift. I would video your swing. You will see if you turn this heel will come up. Here are more tips on topping: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIuXm36mftiWgLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4itenuua8idack Keep in mind those who top it are usually swinging out of their shoes.

I’m very late to this video, but it was helpful in my latest round. When I take a practice swing with good rhythm and pace I do not take a divot. My question, is that a bad habit? Is that setting me up to hit the ball thin? Instead of striking slightly down on the ball to launch it. Because I do feel like I’m trying to kill the ball on my actual strike and the results are either fat, thin or topping the ball.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found me. You don't want to take divots in practice swings as it tears up the grass. So just above the grass by standing a little taller than when you swing. You are not hitting anything. This is the whole problem and what most people do which is holding the back. I am using my body to power the swing. My arms go along for the ride. In doing so that creates the descending blow. Watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3XPqJmnlL91rKc If you want to learn my technique start here: Body Swing Concept: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2ncap17rr5ma80 Grip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIK9faNul6tgjdk Hinge Rehinge: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIvIhaSZr5ejo6c Alignment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHe9lGONppdraM0 Secure Grip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3mmdoOrbsqSZ80 Best Drill: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYfLpX9jmZZ1b7s Power the swing with the legs and hip not the hands and arms. Nice video.. i know my problem but i am having trouble erasing it from my muscle memory.. it is that hip slide/extending to the target ( leading to the reverse C postion, from hours and hours of Stack and tilt finish) i notice this finish doesn’t play well with this swing. On coming throw the swing area, it seems you are only rotation on the front leg (the heel).You have no thoughts of thrusting your hips towards the target? Correct?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 5 ай бұрын
Well, you can certainly shift and turn. Most people you tell to shift don't turn. If you think TURN and end up on top of the forward leg you did both (shift and turn) with only 1 thought. That S&T is tricky. If you are going to change then make the decision to change. If not, keep doing S&T you can't combine both. My loose wrists would be okay to combine with S&T.

Depends on what you are working on. Do you need to hinge your wrists, a better coil, loading your weight etc. You need to find what you need to work on then think of that. It's tough when you play though. You can also do this to take your mind off of the swing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g56vm3ilrtZ4f6c

So how do the pros hit those long distance shots like 180-220 yards easy and efficient? It doesn't look like they're swinging that hard but the ball still goes far.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Body rotation. Your body doesn't even rotate at 2.5 mph in a pros swing. How far do your arms extend from the center. Not much. So it gives the appearance of a slow swing. We get the power in the wrists. Now to turn close to 2.5 mph take a ton of effort from the legs and hips. A .5 mph increase of rotational speed of the center for an amateur is HUGE.
