Thanks. Since lesson 1 back in 1991 I have always thought of it from the student's perspective. What and why do they do certain things. There has to be a reason. Like coming over the top. Easy 80% of all golfers do this. I would say 80% learned as an adult. Correlation? Hitting with arms same thing. Chicken wing. Slice. etc. etc. So once you start seeing it differently you can figure out the fix. Then have 10 different ways to say the same thing so eventually the lightbulb will go off and the person gets it. Glad you're with me.

Paul. Thanks so much. You have helped my game tremendously. Just have to put it all together on the same day 😁. You have talked about when kids picked up their Parents clubs they were heavy. I also like your hinge exercise to loosen and keep loose your wrists. Just swing in the back yard once or twice a day. Does using a slightly heavier club weight help in training the wrists to stay loose when doing that drill? Thanks again.

Good tip. Whenever I look up, I almost always hit a topped or thin shot. Or a big slice from falling out of the swing, although slowing down and making sure I’m hitting with my front arm at full extension has pretty well eliminated the slice. So next time I’m at the range or on the course, I’ll ensure I’m “looking for the blur”.

This tip is brilliant in its simplicity, and it works exactly as you described it. A few weeks ago, I was playing and hit a really fat short iron shot. I mean, I dug a real trench with my swing. But for once, I actually stayed put and looked at my position after I hit. Sure enough, my back foot (left, in my case) was flat on the ground, and my hips hadn’t rotated at all. That’s when I remembered the trick of rolling onto the toe of the back shoe. I did that for the rest of the round, with much better results. Thanks again for cutting away the excessive complexity and getting right to the heart of what the average recreational golfer needs to do to improve his game.

Well...after a few topped shots while warming up..the "Shift" turned into another word...lol. Eventually, I put everything together, and started hitting good shots. For me, your older lesson of starting from the finish position works best...
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Күн бұрын
The topped shots was you doing something new and looking to see what affect it had. If that happens loosen up and keep doing it. This is why I tell people to tee it up if you are working on something. Have room for error then which allows you to see how the new thing is working. Then lower the tee.

Paul, do you like a narrower stance with irons to facilitate better hip turn?
@paulwilsongolf

I prefer narrower over wider. I don't like too narrow either. I teach 3 stance widths. Narrowest 8iron to LW is outside of the shoulders to outside of your feet. Medium 3w to 7iron is 1 ball wider. Driver another ball wider.

So paul address a ball would getting those arms out extended for which then youll be in correct distance be a good routine then set stance , also whats the general benifits if making sure arms are extending , i know a bigger arch , what else does it provide thanks
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Күн бұрын
Well you are pre-determining your arc width. If you set up with the elbows bent then stretched out the lead arm when you hit the ball you would hit the ground behind the ball unless you stood up. So contact would be affected.

@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Күн бұрын
They do but they all learned as kids. Plus, it's not really a physical shift. At some point the person has to go back to where they started. If so, they shifted back to 50/50 without even thinking about it. People are not trying to get people to press into the left foot. This gets everyone learning left and sends it over the top plus, as I said in the tip there is not time so when is the person going to turn. Why not turn which gets you the shift as well.

Very good. Was wondering when people who have been trying to shift would start commenting. A couple others have watched and no listened to what I said and comment on pros doing it which I talked about in the tip. Eating too much turkey must make people hard of hearing. Glad you are going to try it. Remember you hit the top and think turn back to the ball. This is the initial move. If so, you also shifted without thinking about it. Once you start the turn keep turning and end up into the follow through. If you swing over the top that is you shifting too much weight to the left which leans you left. Lean left = swing left. So reduce the amount of shift. If you body starts first you will hit it straight. Keep me posted.

Guess you missed the part where I mentioned pros in the tip. Said they already do it. They started as kids though. Minimal arm strength so from ball 1 they used their legs and hips so they already shift and turn. 80 to 90% learned as adults so they do not. They are being told or thinking about shifting and there is no time. It's a half a second to even say it. So imagine where an am would even half to say it as they go back. Never going to happen.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 4 күн бұрын

@bdvjack9214
@bdvjack9214 4 күн бұрын
Your shifting when the club comes up to the top not when your coming down your right you would have no time and that’s what the pros are doing and it’s a small bump at the top . Your right but your wrong .
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 күн бұрын
Yeah I talk about pros in the tip. They learned as kids. Minimal arm strength so from ball 1 they use their legs and hips. Adults whack at it with their arms so they do not use their legs and hips. Pros are not thinking bump. This occurs due to facing the ball on the downswing which causes the movement left back to the ball. This also causes the shift. It's a half a second to even say the word shift. When do ams have to start saying it then? 3/4 back? Keep in mind you also need to say the word turn which also takes time so again you would have hit the ball before you could even say it. In no way are pros saying shift and turn. Ams should never be saying this as well which is the whole point of the tip. If you turn back to the ball you also shift back to 50/50 without even thinking of it. So you get both.

Hi Paul, Is there any reason why you can't start with 60% weight on the left side and maintain it through the swing - but ensuring the turn happens as you suggest. Cheers Steve in Australia
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 күн бұрын
You can do this. This would be more of a stack and tilt swing. I have tried it. If you do this you need to take it inside in the takeaway because keeping weight on the left causes it to go back outside. You would also be hitting a draw taking it back as I suggested. The issue is more with woods. They have less loft. This means that you start like that and take it back but as you come down your upper body needs to tilt back to approx 30 degrees to stop you hitting down with driver. This is why people abandoned that method and why they had to shoot separate videos on how to hit driver with that technique. Less loft and leaning left people couldn't get drive airborne. So if you want to do it give it a try. If you want to be 60/40 throughout that seems doable.

If you get a tight coil in the backswing where you feel your weight inside the trail hip and trail foot, should that not automatically activate the lower body to shift the weight to the lead foot and tilt and turn the upper body to transition and swing to the finish? That's when I get the best results without having to consciously feel like I am turning my hips and lower body thru the swing. Is that just a feeling personal to me without having to consciously feel the effort of turning and shifting the lower body?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 4 күн бұрын
It can but keep in mind people don't know everything I teach. I wan the person to coil then go to my touch the legs position. If so, this uncoils it perfectly. Most people find a video or have only watched a few. They don't have my products. So for those people I need to get them to stop thinking about shifting. If they keep watching more of my tips they can learn more about what I teach and try to put it together.

I would like to add that not only does the ball go further when the lower body is used to turn, but shot consistency and aim vastly improve as well. I used to have a bad over the top swing until I started following Paul a few years ago. It took a lot of work to retrain my body and mind to turn instead of just hitting at the ball, but now when I leave the range, I can feel the effort in my haunches and legs instead of my back. My ball trajectory used to be 90% slices, now I rarely hit one and that is typically caused by too much thought in the backswing. Thanks, Paul. Good to see you again.
