Pavan Varma Attacks CAA, Modi's 'Divisive Politics' & Nitish's 'Betrayal of Principles'

In a 51-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Pavan Varma said the Prime Minister’s claim the Citizenship Amendment Act “illustrates India’s centuries-old culture of acceptance, harmony, compassion and brotherhood” simply shows that Mr. Modi does not know the constitution or has not read it. He said that the Citizenship Amendment Act was “totally unacceptable”. He said the inevitable outcome of the combination of the CAA and the NRC was that only Muslims who cannot prove they are Indian citizens will be deemed illegal and deported. People of every other faith will be covered by the CAA. Muslims will be sent to detention centers and remain there. Using language that will inflame the BJP, Mr. Varma said this was reminiscent of “Nazi” behavior.

Very often people from the supposedly higher castes vociferously support this government despite I'm sure having the intelligence to realize they are not doing anything to tackle the infinite problems ailing our country. I can’t agree any more or less. I think the current government has lost every right to lead this Country which was once made independent by our great leaders of freedom movement.. Modi keeps referring to Gandhi all the time- first he has to become like Gandhi. Gandhiji was a barrister and yet he shunned everything to make India independent. Gandhiji made this promise to Hindus and Sikhs of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The CAB is what Congress leadership promised to minorities of undivided India Example - Manmohan singh is one of those Sikhs who born in Pakistan and became Indian citizen to become PM of India Gandhi Ji would have been considered a communal in modern India. Although Muslims considered him communal all along , that's why Muslims demanded Partition in spite of his best efforts. Pavan Verma reminds me of Prithviraj Chauhan. He did not know the enemy we are fighting. India now has old age pension, mid-day free meal for children, low cost health benefits, etc. If you need to protect these to Indian citizens then we also need to protect our border. When we leave our home we lock our doors. PM Modi similarly needs to lock the country's borders.
