I was always in complete awe when I had a chance to watch his games. Of all the players, he, Mike Modano and Sergei Fedorov were simply the outmost pleasure to watch playing. Each of them phenomenal skaters, fluid and smooth; but Pavel Datsyuk was unique in the level of creativity he put on display when he decided he feels like playing for real. He had not one but two extra hockey gears he could turn on. Undeniably a product of Russian hockey school at it's absolute best, Datsyuk could take the game into his own hands when he felt like it. I can't find words to describe what I've always felt when I saw him play. A ballet on ice? A chess game master with a hockey stick? In my mind, Fedorov and Datsyuk were by far the best players of all times, each in his own way. Their hockey IQ was off the charts. While there were and there are many very good players before and after them, it's yet to be seen if anyone can come even close to these 2 Russians who in my opinion were most complete players in the history of the game.

@@jeffreykaufmann2867 Datsyuk was widley considered one of the best in the world right along with crosby in his prime by just about every analyst and most NHL players at the time. Its just weird to see people try to hate on a guy that was one of the best complete players to ever play. its weird. Lots to take into account. Its pretty obvious Datsyuk could have lead the league in goals and assists. He basically did what he wanted when he wanted, but being a two way player comes with the sacrifice of less goal production. Thats not really a debate, its just a fact. I point to yzerman as an obvious example. Yzerman scored more than 60 goals, i believe a few times until Bowman came to detroit. Look at his stats pre bowman and after to see how much playing defense affects goal scoring. Since then detroits system hasnt been tailored for goal scorers. Its apparent just looking at Yzermans stats pre scott bowman and after. Im not taking anything away from McDavid, or Grets. McDavid is a blast to watch. Im just pointing out that to some players, even as stupid talented as Datsyuk, goal scoring wasnt what he played for but easily could have. I mean were not going to call Ovi the best to ever play when he beats Grets record are we? thats my point.

Picasso Datsyuk. So grateful to have had the most inventive and skilled player of all time. No one like him before, ever or since. I ran into him and Hudler outside of a bar after the 2008 Stanley Cup parade, there was no English being spoken, we were all drunk. It was just fun and a great experience to meet a legend in our cities moment of celebration

Hopefully footage like this will survive a long time. Can you imagine how much more respect and legacy guys like Morenz would have if there was HD footage like this? Stats don't tell the whole story. Love Datsyuk!

Incredible. One player faked of his feet, another two colliding with each other, and all those steals... wow!!

The best part of this video, is he isn't making 4th liners look foolish ... its exceptional players and former Norris winners. He's a legend.

A lot of those highlights are during an even score game, or even better, during playoffs. Pure art, respect, Pavel
