@sohrabborzoian39142 жыл бұрын
@@asbestosman Hi there. As I said in the previous comment only the instrumental version of it is now available (it wasn't available actually before until April 8th 2022 ). I read somewhere that the band had to pay a high amount of money to Dutch Television Network so that they could get the rights for it and get a chance to remaster and release this song. And because of this I guess they just gave up the whole thing and never spoke of it again. Anyways I would send you the link of that program which they played on and made an appearance. Its the best version of it that you can find. And also in the 23rd minute it also has this song with a better video and sound quality. In the end I just hope they release this song in an upcoming bootleg or something (I feel Scott Kannberg's artistic voice is like George Harrison which they hardly gave permission to record 😂), because Farewell Horizontal (even though it was perfect) but still they should have included more unreleased tracks in it, from which they recorded during those days. The link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJzQmIKgdpZ7rMU Cheers mate. And forgive me if I wrote such a long comment.

if you read perfect sound forever, it talks about malkmus taking total control towards the end while they were recording terror twilight he refuses any input from kannberg or the others. also, pavemen was the name of kannbergs first band without malkmus. when malkmus and scott started, malkmus liked the name pavement so much he insisted they kept it for their band name.

Sounds like something halfway between a Weezer and a Blur song. You can almost tell that Blur was inspired from this sort of stuff (including the sardonic joke Stephen made about how to make a "hit-single", and not knowing who the Dutch were, that got cut off at the end there (though you can find it on another video)).
@jett3474 Жыл бұрын
This is a very late reply, but good catch there with the comparison to Blur. Graham Coxon actually mentions being a fan of Pavement in his memoir, so it makes sense that some Blur songs have a Pavement-esque sound

just a note, pavement did not play this song in their Pomona show a few days ago. (don't get your hopes up too much?) BUT their entire show was awesome. Okay so I'm seeing them at ACL in October (Tried to scoop tickets for their small venue show the night before but that didn't work out sadly) and I have an idea. Imma bring a flat pack cardboard box and mid show write "Elder" on it and "4 Sale! PSOI" on the other side and hold it up. Probably going to get nowhere fast, but it's still gonna be lit

yes, but it wasn't improvised or anything. they worked it out (for the most part) beforehand, although from what i can tell it still had a pretty loose arrangement by the time they did this, the final version. there's an mp3 floating around with audio of the whole program in which you can hear them running through some practice takes, working out the lyrics and arrangement stuff. one snippet has malkmus taking lead with french lyrics.

fran, don't listen to the other posters.All other bands you could say "rip" off other bands. It's called "influence". Every album from these guys is fresh and gutsy. Forget mainstream, top 40 crap. This band strictly put out it's own music, and never comformed. Follow it up with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. "Church on White" (just a S.Malkmus song, not w/ Jicks) is a particular one I think you'd like, and thier last album "Real Emotional Trash" was they best thing I've heard in years.

@sashwap3 жыл бұрын
agreed. also, by all accounts producer nigel godrich was not interested in any spiral songs. it’s too bad!
@102straz32 жыл бұрын
Spiral's got good tunes but his lyrics were always kinda meh... That album was Pavement's last chance to expand their audience, that was Godrich's mission and as a Pavement fan, he was really into the project. By 1999, Pavement were an 'old band', they had the respect and the devoted fans but cool kids weren't interested in them anymore. Now, to Godrich, Malkmus was Pavement and the album would be all about celebrating his songwriting abilities. I do love both singles 'Major Leagues' and 'Spit on a Stranger' but the truth is they were calibrated to be 'coffee table markets hits', slick-sounding and actually very morning radio friendly... Sadly they hardly got any airplay at the time. And Malkmus, who was 33 years old, tired of being in Pavement and didn't believe he'd ever break the coffee table market anyway quicky lost interest for Terror Twilight.
