I was once asked to transfer $ 1.00 Mx (equivalent to 5 cents in US dollar), to show that the money transfer system was working OK. And some very complex contracts, usually in the hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars demand that you present a third party bond for the amount of the punishment for not completing the contract, only payable if you indeed broke the contract.

Actually, the scammEE - regarding the $300 - are the defendants. Unfortunately, they destroyed the plaintiff's driveway and are responsible for fixing it or paying to have it fixed.

Something similar to this happened to my mother. She came home from work and found a bunch of guys tearing the tiles off her roof. When she tried to talk to them they jumped in their truck and sped off. Luckily, a neighbor got the business name on the truck. Turns out they were supposed to be doing work on the house down the block. She had to threaten them with court before they would fix her roof.😂

Every contractor and tradie I know has always knocked on the door so confirm they have the right house and client. If someone is not there they leave and send a message. I have never met or heard (well I have now 😂) of a professional doing a major job with ensuring they have confirmation.
