Pavo Muticus Muticus

Peafowls are known for their eye-spotted tail and coloration. You might notice that in green peafowls only peacocks (male) have the tail, unlike the peahens (female) who have only similar coloration.
Green peafowls live in Indochina and are more rare than the blue peafowls which live in India. The main difference is in the color of their
chests (green peafowls have green, and blue peafowl blue chests) and the fact that unlike the blue peafowl, a green peacock and green peahen differ only in having or not having a tail.
These peafowls were bought from Wolfgang Mennig.

Wow they are so beautiful I have India blues and some of their varieties but have been wanting to have some green peafowl. How long have you had them?

most of the descendants probably are but his oldest birds appeared to be pure. There are probably a few more subspecies than just 3, annamensis is one very similar Malay muticus-muticus. Still most birds are probably at least 75% Malay.

that is true for most birds, although the skins i viewed were only pictures emailed to me, so i cant be 100% sure

exactly who are you? Have we talked on another forum before? Are you on Backyard Chicken or GBWF forum? There's some discussion about Green Peafowl subspecies on a French forum (by Rene Martin) and also on Facebook.

value the fact that you have one of the very last individuals of this species. Also be careful of breeding them with other stocks - Rodney Michael's stock looks "pure" but it's a composite of Java, Malay as well as Annamese Peafowl. Unfortunately although inbreeding is a problem it is needed to save a species. I also have some doubt that at least some of Wolfgang's birds have been mixed though.

wow... just by looking at them I thought they were from Mennig. Beautiful birds that are unfortunately extinct in the wild. These ones were native to Malaysia and are not the same as the muticus muticus from Java. The World Pheasant Assosiation poorly handled the "reintroduction" and introduced birds that were a mix of Javanese, Malaysian and spicifer! Also you mean "Green Peafowl live in Indochina and are rarer than the India Blue Peafowl"
